Default 50cc Cap?

I'm looking to get into gassers with a 50cc ship... I'd really like a CAP with a DA 50.. Does anyone know who makes a 50cc cap?

I know of Chip's Cap-X but is there anyothers?

Are you only looking for an ARF?

You can still find a few H9 80" CAPs, or EXTREME AIRCRAFT 80".

How about kits?..... Lanier or MIDWEST

You're not alone. We all want to have some 50cc CAP232's to mix with all the YAK's out there. Not sure why they don't make them. I have a Kangke 74 inch CAP with a Moki 1.80 and it flies just awesome. I can imagine an 87 inch 15 pound one with a DA 50 on it. What a ship that would be.

1100+ post on RCU and you have to ask????? Come on.

May be a better question in the ARF section.

They pop up on eBay and RCU from time to time. They were in production only a short time.

Or, if you want to try building, you can buy the Midwest kit (one of Mike McConville's best designs, IMHO) on eBay, keep the plans, trace the plywood parts in the fuse and cut them from balsa, cut wings and stabs, and turtle deck from 1# foam sheeted in 1/16" contest balsa, then box up the kit and sell it again on eBay. You end up with an 80" Cap weighing just under 11# with a YS 1.40, or (like mine), 12# with a ZDZ40. 1200 in^2 wing area, 12# on gas = 23 oz/ft^2. That is a great wing loading for a .40 size plane, let alone a 50cc sized plane!

Here is mine:

Default RE: 50cc Cap?

are you saying a 50cc is significantly more power than a 40cc? It has plenty of power with the 40, a 50 would be additional weight. My cap weighs around 12# with the ZDZ40. It is exceptionally light already. It would "handle" a 50cc just fine, but why add weight? (except the BME or Brison, which weigh less...)

The reason I posted this is the Hangar 9 80" Cap is roughly the same size/dimensions of the Midwest Cap. There are a few changes that can be made during construction that will dramatically decrease the weight. The Hangar 9 weighs around 15# with a 50cc engine.

Note these planes are quite a bit larger than the CHP Cap-X/Extrem Aircraft Cap 232, which can both handle the 50cc. Chip has a video of his Cap-X with a DA 50 on his website.

[link=http://pages.prodigy.net/ka9lnp/dhm27cap232.htm]HERE[/link] is a link showing a similar plane "in the bones". Mine has 1-piece wing and stab.

Cheers,
Brett

BTW, your avatar gives me chills late at night. The Exorcist is still about the scariest movie ever...

Thanks,
I was just curious if a 50cc would be OK for use with these airframes cause I want this engine to be able to go into alot of planes in the future...Most 50cc type airframes...

I think I ay try to find the H9 Cap... If I can't find one by time to order X-mas presents then I'll go with the Midwest Kit.

Thanks Bterry.. Anyone have any other suggestions?

My avitar is a pic of my highly modified Lanier Cap I built from a kit. It is a laser cut kit with foam core wings and stabs. I was able to lighten it and came out 14.5 lbs with a DA50. 1275 sq in of wing made this plane a serious performer. Also with the kit version you can customize the size of all of the control surfaces. Unfortunately my plane met its end from radio inerference.

Seems to me that we'll be seeing some 50cc CAPs in the near future...

Try calling Wild Hare RC... I think I remember him mentioning one coming soon...

Wild Hare is releasing a CAP that should be pretty good with a DA 50.
