Years ago there was an 80" World War 1 bipe that was having wing failures. The culprit was voids in the light ply laminated joiners. (At least that's what the manufacture said) They switched to aircraft grade ply and no more problems. This might be a similar situation. Without that center of the light ply being solid wood or close to it, I can see a problem. The wood would fold (crumple) in resisting bending moment even thought he balsa is there. The ply would eventually tear and finally fail. Terrible thing to happen. When assembling mine, I had lots of long thoughts regarding this matter. But as usual, I presume the manufactures know better. Besides, the planes wings form a fairly ridgid box and this should thwart the bending moment. Shouldn't it?

VERY nice work, John. Wish I could figure out a way to retrofit a CF shear web against that ply. In lamination, that CF cannot "break" perpendicular to it's flats. At least within the +/- 15g's we may be pulling! (hope it's not that much, of course, but one never knows)
VERY nice lamination....

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Hey guys- I have loved Ultimates for years, this past summer I built one of these birds and never flew it a friend of mine at the local club wanted it so bad that he made me an offer that I just could not refuse. Anyway, I have a just broken in Brison 3.2 engine here that needs a home, what do you think about this engine on the Ultimate, the engine makes great power and weighs just about the same as the DA. I'm just looking for a home for the engine, I could put in a WH Edge or Extra but thought about this bird, it's just beautiful!

We don't need no stinkin' meters... just count the "Oh my Gawds", "Oh Shiznits" "Holy Molys" you hear during a maneuver...
More than 4 and you better throttle back quick before someone says something worse...

Merry Christmas, everyone!
My Ult, when it next takes wing soon, will be ALL Hitec 5955/5645 and Spektrum DX 7'ed..... I'll report back here for updates, if it's anything newsworthy ----- oh, yeah, it will ALSO have the newest Brillelli 50 cc..... THAT will make it a WHOLE new "thing"....

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
I just got a DX-7 for X-Mas, but it first goes in my NitroModels P-38 [7 1/2' wing span - 11 servos - OS-70x2]. After I get comfy using the DX-7, THEN I'll get another reciever for it to put in my GP Ultimate. Being my first gasser, I'd feel better using my trusted Futaba 9C for initial run-in flights. Eventually, most of my planes will be on my DX-7.

50cc gasser, very similar to BME, except lighter, more balanced, less cost.
Scott said he'd be updating his website with info soon. Busy doing 46's and Christmas, you know.
I'm on the list, for sure.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Does it need rail mounts too like the 46? ANd does this mean the 46 might de discontinued too like the 40? Wish he had kept the 40 and dropped the 46 for the 50... then he'd have the 60...
a 26, 40, 50, 60... a nice spread...

Don't know for sure, but think the 46 is gonna stay, the 60 for sure.
It does rail mount; Scott includes his own lightweight custom rails, much lighter than others.
Here's a sneak peek...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
have you gotten any weight specs on that yet? Or maybe a price even? If it is something that is going to happen soon I will hold off, that is if it is not too much more then the 46.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
No, Sorry. I don't know timelines or costs; info from Scott is "soon". Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't have the info.
As for power - it should be more than the 46, obviously, but again - no data yet. I believe Scott is working with the one prototype at this time, preparing for production runs, so hasn't done a lot yet.
More info on the Brillelli 46 or Brillelli Boyz threads in Gas Engines. From this post on, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=5134307

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
I have a questions for the experts. When you are using for an example a pair of Fromeco 2400 their voltage are much higher that you need for a 6V servo's setup. How do you take those 7-7.4 V from the Li-Ion battery to the 6V that you need on your servos?
Thank you.

But how do you setup the voltage for the receiver (4.8V) different from the voltage to the servos (6V)?

Btw; they have their own direct support forum here on RC Universe......[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_328/tt.htm]Smart-Fly (Quest Engineering) Support Forum[/link]
