I have a satio 100 on my funtana 90. 2 weeks I went out and it flew great. Last week go out for what was going to be a great day of flying and the satio would run long enough to get on the runway and die. So I brought it back and did the usual needle adjustment started it up same thing. So I changed the glow plug started it same thing. Got mad took it home to investigate further. Took the carb a part and found a little plastic shaving in the fuel nipple thought I solved the problem. Took it out yesterday same problem. Last night went through all of my fuel lines inspecting for holes or anything of signifigance came up empty handed again. Can anyone help? Has Anyone had the same problem?

Get a new gallon of fuel , and change your plug again. Sounds like bad fuel , my Saitos did the same thing. OS four strokes ran fine , Saitos would run on the ground and shut off in the air.

Will it stay running if you advance it past idle after starting it?
The factory sets the low end needle very rich. After break-in, it needs to be leaned out. Especially if the engine is mounted inverted.

You may also want to check the valve adjustment... I found that mine needed adjustment after only a few tanks of fuel. Since the adjustment I've also leaned it some and was able to lower the idle a ton. Mine is inverted and for a little extra insurance I've added the Ram 50 Igniter... it's not necessary but what the heck, $30.00 is cheap insurance and allows you to idle down big time!

you said you inspected the fuel lines... did you change them?? if there is a tiny hole, you probably wouldn't find it unless you submerge the whole system and pressurize it....

Thanks for the input! The satio has had about 3/4 of a gallon through it, the last 1/4 of the gallon might be bad but it is in a sealed jug. prophangar1 what glow plug would you use for this application? I am using a OS #8! Chaser the motor will shut off at any throttle setting. It seems like the grimmlins are just flipping the switch and the motor dies. Michael the valve adjustment is true and correct that was one of the first things we tried right after the motor monster got into my satio. exeter_acers I did not change the fuel lines. It is less than 6 months old and I'm thinking about sending it in to be inspected what would ya'll do?

1st thing I would do is get rid of that glow plug. It is clearly the wrong one. Get an OS-F which is their 4 stroke plug. Then I would try to lean the engine on the low jet, the one thrugh the throttle arm. As has been stated they come very rich and must be leaned a lot after break in. But I'll bet the glow plug will solve it.Thanks

Yeah, the OS-F is the correct plug and for 39 cents a foot for fuel line I'd give that a shot too... last but not least you could always use the fuel eventually so try a fresh jug of fuel... if that don't do it, at least it's still under warranty! Good luck!

When I had my idle about 1/8 turn too lean, it would do the same thing; I had suspected that the taxi out shook the fuel line just enough to add a bubble or two that would stop the barely too-lean engine. But I agree with the others, use an OS F plug. That is probably the real problem.

PS As a side, what prop are you using? Here in Austin (800' ASL) we all use a 16x4W APC on the Funtana 90.

Boy this guy is really helpful. Jerk

I'm also sure it is the glow plug. It also could be to lean you don't have to move the needle very much on a Saito get it lean.
On the bright side I just had to send my Saito 100 in for bearins and they did it all free of charge. I think I screwed mine up tryin to get it to fly the F90 not enought motor. I replaced mine with a YS110 boy what a differnce that made.

georgec thanks for coming to my aid with daveopam, but I must admit we do fly together and he's an alright guy. FallingWithStyle I was using a 15 X 4W to break in my satio 100 but since I have changed to a 16 X 4W but I still think I am underpowered[sm=frown.gif] I shouldn't have been so tight and went with a YS110. Since I have posted this thread I have gotten a OS-F and changed all of my fuel lines, but I have yet to try it. I let all of you know how it turns out. And daveopam just you wait till..till...O heck I'll get you for this one[sm=punching.gif]!!!!!!!!

Hey Chris,
I'll be there in the big town of Elk City in a couple of weeks. If you don't have it running by then I will help you out.
All it needs is some big city folk to get it running right!
It does sound like everyone is heading you in the right direction though.
See you soon.

Jim, went out with david and adjusted the low end and it flew flawlessly. I also changed all of the fuel lines, put a new OS F plug (the right one this time), added a sullivan fuel filter and changed to a APC 16 X 4W. I'm really not for sure what it was but I think I got the grimmlens out of my motor. Flew a couple of flights and it flew flawlessly
, just wish the pilot had a bit more ability. David and I had to screw the low end all the way and back it out about 3/4 of a turn and it may still be a little fat on the low end. I think I'll fly it like it is and let you tinker with it when you get out here Sept. 17. Have you talked to Don about coming out for the fun fly? I will e-mail him sometime next week. David was that not an amazing mid-air I wish I would have had a video camera. But on the other hand I feel sorry for those two. And to everyone else I sincerely appreciate all the input and help you have contributed to solving this problem!

The APC 16 x 4W is a pretty heavy prop and as such is a pretty hefty load on a new engine. I couldn't get my 100 to spin one with any reliability till I had about 4-5 gallons through it. Even now that mine is fully broken in it still doesn't like that prop unless I am burning 30% heli mix. My recommendations for a prop on a new 100 would be an APC 15 x 6 for sport flying or break in and the 15 x 4W if your running 15% fuel.
Sounds like you had a bunch of issues with the engine that all conspired against you.

I think the recommended break-in prop is a 16/8 so it will crank that 16/4 with no troubles at all. I broke my Saito 100 in with the 16/8, 5 tanks on the stand and 6 flights both at rich settings, then adjusted the valves, leaned it out some and switched to the 16/6 just to slow my P51 down for landing purposes only. Purrs like a kitten!

A 16 x 8 on a 100? Those are perfect for breaking in a 1.50 or a 1.80 but IMO are a bit big for a 100. FWIW my 100 refused to pull a 16 x 4W when new, no amount of needle tweaking would coax the engine into running that paddle. Also, bear in mind that I am referring to the APC props and not a lighter, less efficient wood prop like a Zinger.

Opps, my bad, I had the 16/8 on the 150 size P51 w/180 Saito, the 14/8 was recommended for the break-in on the Saito 100 on the 60 size P51. Now I run the 16/6 on the 180 and the 14/6 on the 60 size... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Thanks guys all this info has led to some insight on what prop I should use. When I finally got the Funtana90 running I had changed the prop to a 16 X 4W and it had so much more vertical I can now hover at about 3/4 to 7/8 throttle before it wouldn't even think about it. I haven't had any reliability issues as of yet with the new prop but I'll keep my eyes and ears tuned and watch out for it. Once again thanks for all the input!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

, just curios. maybe i need to reword that ,how did you come to putting it in?
