Hey dude, looks like you did a great job on that yak. We've been fighting the weather here in Loisiana, but I finally put the maiden flight on mine today. I've got an old YS 1.20 4 stroke on mine. After a couple of trim passes, I turned it knife edge at half throttle. I rolled it and by instinct fed in about half of the rudder to catch it. Before I could react, it yawed until the nose was straight up and started to hover. Woooooh! It doesn't take much rudder to hold knife edge. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it will do multiple knife edge loops. Had to leave the field early, but I can't wait to get some stick time on this thing. It's so cool to have a profile without the tank and wires hanging out. Good luck with yours.

llamury, how does it do with the YS 1.20? How did it balance with that large of an engine? I would really like to make one electric but I don't think I'll get the batteries by spring. I'm also considering the new Saito 125

rtn9105, because I had to go to a wedding, I only got one flight on it so I'm not through trimming. But, I was surprised that it was not nose heavy. I initially placed my battery all the back in the radio compartment assuming it would have to be there with the 1.20, but I had to move it forward to hit the factury recommendation on CG. On a new airplane, I usually start with the factory recommendation for the first flight. I will creep it back until the plane dives very slightly with no elevator input in the inverted position. That's just personal preference.
I am not into electric power, so I can't help you on that, but the Saito 1.25 would be a lot of power for this plane. A good 90 would be plenty. I think the Saito is about 7oz. lighter than my old YS 1.20. You shouldn't have trouble hitting the CG.

maiden my yak 54 pro this weekend. this plane flys real good, harriers are good could be a little better when i get it completley trimed out , torque rolls real nice. walls are a little slow but moving the c/g back will fix it. my c/g is behind the wing tube. and it is still nose heavy.moved my battery back and will give it a try when the snow melts of the runway. also elevators are real good and solid the plane just falls straight down no wing rock at all. so this will be a great plane once i get it set up. os 91fx turning apc 15x6 at 10300 rpm with fast throttle response running mousse can muffler. will pull out of hover with athority. you guys are going to like this one.

I am running a Saito 100 with a 16x4W APC. Forget about waiting for the snow to melt, put a pair of skis on it. Flies great and does everything I want.

R/C Foolish,
Just bought a new Satio 1.00 for mine and was wandering how far out on the motor mount did you mount yours? That Satio 1.00 is one sweet motor and only weighs in at 21 oz. with muffler. Where's your battery location in the fuse?

Mount the motor as far out as you possibly can. I had to make a new groove for the needle valve. Just use a drum sander on your dremel and use a piece of black covering. Battery is toward the wing tube. Will move it back a little as I get more comfortable with it. Put my first one into the ground because I didn't charge the battery. 2nd one is awesome, it is a great profile without the typical exposed tank and wires. I changed the aluminum landing gear for a pair of carbon fiber gear. The aluminum bent after the first couple of landings with the skis.

How does the fuel tank do with the YS 1.20 as far as the pressurized fuel system... Thats the only thing that is stopping me from getting one is I'm worried the tank will explode from the fuel pressure with my ys 120 sc

Raileigh3Dfler,
Really don't think you need to worry about that, comes with a heavy duty fuel tank as well as the rest being H/D hardware. Ball link connector's, H/D pushrods and control horns, I used all the hardware, nothing needed to be replaced. Also comes with a real nice set of fiberglass wheelpants, definitely a high quality ARF, you will not be disappointed. You might consider putting fuel line clips on the lines coming out of from the fuel tank as extra insurance and fuel proof in and around the area where it sets in the fuse.

Hey Mike,
I checked into it for you and was told that you got one of the early designs that was made like that on purpose. You must have had it for a while? Like any manufacturer, once the product gets into the field, they listen to their customers and start making changes. Yours should fly fine though.

Lee,
Actually I have only had it for maybe 4 months, I bought from a Hobby Store in Ca I believe.
I'm not to worried about how it flies the surfaces are huge and I have a SA100 in it, it is pretty heavy but I'm sure with the thick wings and the 16-4w it should do ok. I am having problems with the wind servos buzzing everything is 90 degress and I used heim ends on the wings, I dont know if its the weight of the large ailerons or if the radio system is messed up, I changed the 605's to new 635's and still have the same issue, I'll work it our I hope....any Ideas, thanks for the support your a big help...thank you and Happy Holidays.

qweedqwag,
The download manual suggest only 30 degree's max (high rate) on the ailerons and 18 degree's (low rate). It also says that with the 30 degree setting on the ailerons, 40 degree on the elevators and 45 degree on the rudder, if the controls are pulled hard at moderate high speed, it will cause the plane to stall, tumble and hunt for dirt. Try these settings and it will be easier to fly and you might get rid of the buzz coming from the servo's.

Hi Guys,
I have been trying to contact Aviation Models(TOC) about ordering one of these Yaks and always get a busy signal, so I emailed lee
and have gotten no response. Are they having problems out there on the west coast.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks Mike,

Hey Mike,
Sorry I didn't get your email. You probably fell victim to the spam filter. Anyway, we're having trouble with the 800 number. The other number posted is working. We do have profiles in stock and will ship out same day as ordered if ordered before noon. Sorry about the trouble.
Thanks Lee
PS I do check RCUniverse every couple of days if you can't reach me by normal means. They email me automatically if someone replys to one of my posts on this forum.

MRMcFarlandM,
Wise choice, you are gonna love this plane! I predict that this Yak Pro will be a big hit coast to coast by this coming spring. I found 0 faults with it and give it a perfect 10! I was even impressed with the heavy duty shipping container it arrived in. This is without question, one of the nicest planes I have ever purchased and Aviation Models should have a large quanity in stock, everybody is going to want this bird!

Well I changed my engine plans. I was all set to pick up one of these planes and put the Saito 125 in it but I came accross a deal on a YS 140 that was to good to pass up. So is there any chance that the 140 wouldn't rip this plane apart? I really like the looks of this plane but I think I may have went a little overboard with that engine for this plane.
Although if it handles the YS 120 maybe it would be fine with the 140
