I am interested in someones YS110 setup....servos batts and balance.

I am going to run Fromeco 2400 , 5625's in the tail, very fast. Ailerons , I have not decided...maybe some old 5645's I have with new gears installed. Karbonites look like the ticket if you are buying new servos for it.

Anyone have any quality issues after a bunch of flights...loose/cracked joints??

Boss,

I'm running a YS 1.20sf Thats what i had kickin' around! and i'm glad i did! Very fun combo! I'm running 5475 all around! they seem to be working fine,As for the air frame no issues to date! Go with the 1.10 you won't be disappointed! I'm not sure of the casing size on the 1.10 but on the 1.20 i had to trim out a bit of the motor mount to fit mine in! if you have to as well just make sure eveything is even top and bottom! you shouldn't have a problem. As for a bat just using a 6.0v flat pack jr 2700

I did my first rolling harriers with this plane! very fun! If there wasn't snow on the ground i'd be out pokin' holes in the sky!

have fun!

cheers! from Canada!

Seeing is believing. Or feeling the sticks that is.

I have a Banchee 3D , same size as this plane, 3.5 lbs AUW. I can;t see how it would fly better with 4 lbs attached. I got a feeling it won't be that great. Maybe fun, but float??? Not like the Banchee. I like profiles, but I skeptical of this one, even with 3:1 power. A brick is still a brick ...with wings.

I will post my report when maiden is done..next week.

And,

I got this plane for debt owed to me, I would gladly trade it for an OMP 68" profile.....

any takers??? Listen to the silence.

mstcitabria,

http://www.graphtechrc.com/Secure/mall/maingear.asp

Graphtech makes a generic 40 size carbon gear that is one inch taller than the factory gear and it is almost four inches wider in stance (I think this will be a great mod adding some flex without bending the gear). I am supposed to call him this afternoon with the dimensions of the factory gear. My only concern is the strength of his factory gear made for a lighter plane. He said he could set me up no matter what the need.

However I must say, I am very impressed with his product in general, I have his gear on a funtanna 40, funtanna 90, 27% 260 Extra, TOC1 30% yak and soon to be on the Yak Pro. Being an agressive 2nd year flier (and slow learner) I am hard on the gear. I have torn the gear clean off the funtanna 40 in 15 to 18 MPH winds and tall grass (the gear was fine). I have dead sticked the 260 (inverted and low) with a 20 MPH tail wind, got it right side up but pancaked the gear and flipped it with minor damage to the tail rudder That one did crack some glue joints at the landing gear (again the gear survived fine).

Oh yea, he also just completed the mold and is making me gear for a Showtime 4D I have NIB. That will be my next project after the Yak Pro. He will be sending that gear with the Yak Pro gear we decide on.

Enough about the gear, I just installed the hinges and tailfeathers on the Yak it looks like it is going to be a great flier. I did have to modify the opening at the elevator to get more throws on the elevator. The manual says +40 degrees on high rates and the elevator was hitting the fuse right at 40 degrees. I just filed a bevel at the point where the elevator hit on the top and the bottom for more clearance. I may not use or need it but I now have the option to go up to 62 degrees either way on the elevator. It was much easier to do the mod before the tail feathers were epoxied in place. If anyone is interested I could send pix of the mod and increased throws.

BossHossv8,

You are way off the mark on this one. The Yak Pro is a great flier and it floats in like it is on rails. I put skis on mine and it is great of the snow. I got rid of my Accell Katana because it is too flimsy, like the OMP's. This profile Yak Pro has a little substance to it and performs very well. Of course, this is ALL MY OPINION. So everyone do what they like and take the information shared in these threads as they like.

Happy Flying,

R/C Foolish

Ok,

MSt thanks for the PM';s.

I will be pretty hard on her, and judging by the reports here, it can take it.

It just seems like the Wingspan is a little short. Maybe the Ys is not the way to go....weight wise.

Is the 91 two stroke lighter??? I would think the lighter side is the way to go, if you want foamie flipping style 3D. I have been getting away from 2-stroke glow, maybe the ST .91 gasser convert from BME would be the ticket here. 10oz gas , 30 minute flights.

Yes, my OMP 47 Yak fuse was flimsy, nothing a little (a lot) , of Gorilla glue couldn;t fix. there is no denying that this plane is built well, and having a profile with the guts covered is even better.

Is there anyone with a 3D video of this bird???

Bosshossv8,
The gas burner S.T. 90 should be plenty of motor. I had a S.T. 75 (nitro) on a Kat 70 that flew really nice. There is a video in the TOC website of the Yak with the red/white color scheme, this is electrified, check it out,

Do you still happen to have the fuse and hatch for TOC Pro Yak? I'd be interested in working out a deal
Thank you

If anyone is interested, I just spoke with Mike at Graphtech and he just completed the setup and is now producing Carbon Fiber gear for this plane. They should be ready to ship this week. His gear will be about an inch taller for additional prop clearance, it will have a bit wider stance as well. He will be adding this gear to his website this week and you can get there by going here: http://www.graphtechrc.com/Secure/mall/maingear.asp

butternifedge,
There is also LG available thru http://www.williamsrc.com/accessories.html . They have nylon gear and carbon fiber rear and are about half the price. Depending on what you want to spend, you can make your own choice. Either gear should work well on the Yak Pro.

Thanks for the second source for gear. I already have a set comming from GT for this one though. Mike at GT was talking about adding a taper from the top to the bottom of the gear for better looks. I am looking foreword to seeing what he comes up with. I will post some pix next week after I get the new gear installed. I added the williams rc site to my favorites. Seems like finding the many sources for the best RC stuff is half the battle (the other half is deciding what the best solution actually is after looking at cost vs. quality vs. availibility vs. weight and on and on and on...) isn't it great though!

You guys have a good thread going here. Very informative. I really appreciate the generous guys that seem to be attracted to RC - always willing to share to help other modelers.

Just to throw in my 2 cents - As you may remember, I started the trouble by hanging a very old (but rejuvenated) YS 1.20 on the front of mine. But this plane will perform very well with a variety of engines. For the guys that will be buying a new engine, I understand why you ask so many probing questions and challenge other opinions. You want to spend your money wisely - and in the end, you want to get something that matches your flying style. So guys cut them a little slack.

If you've got a good 90-1.20 4 stroke laying around, no need to go out and spend your modeling money on something that will overpower this plane. I've seen planes so overpowered that they had to be idled down so low to keep the plane from rolling at idle, that they nearly shook the plane apart. Sometimes the extra weight actually degrades the performance of the plane. Trust me, a good 90 to 1.20 is plenty.

Today I made 3 flights on the Yak Pro, the last 2 of which I switched to an APC 16X6. It did make quite a difference to the good, particularly in the hover. It locked in and stabalized much easier. Previously, I was using an APC 15X8.

I've included a few pictures for the guys starting to position radio & batteries. I'm using a single 1500mAh NiCad pack 6.0v - HiTec 645 mg all around. - Futaba 9C- MPI switch

Is it possible to flip the needle/throttle arm 180* on a satio 100 or 125 so it would fit better in this plane?

well i finally got mine dialed in. i am running a os 91fx apc 15x6 prop. hitec servos. jr radio. this thing hovers and torque rolls very nice also elevators and harriers are awsome with a little spoilerion. knife edge is very good and can be slowed way down. and landings well it lands great . you can just drag the tail in. it will snap easy if you grab to much elevator at to slow of speed. all in all [img][/img]

Yes, On a Saito 100, you can turn the carb around so the high speed needle is pointing up, not sure about the 125.

I am flying the edge pro with an evolution engine 1.00 nx
and what a combination unlimited vertical this thing fly so good it is a winner
I ordered a Yak pro and they send me an edge pro by mistake
talk to Sammy at aviation models and he send me the yak pro
at no cost and told me to keep the edge as a gift for the error
This company really cares for their costumers
Also can some one tell me how many ounces the tank is
I am getting 15 minutes on half tank
Thanks

Default RE: TOC Aviation Fun Scale YAK Pro

ok,

I would like to know the size of the tank as well. I put the YS1.10FZ monster in this plane, one servo screw holding it for a balance check..right in the stock location it is perfect.

Battery movement will allow CG changes without a problem .

I did NOT use ANY of the linkage hardware. The geometry of the surfaces would not allow it, without letting the clevis bend and tweak. I made my own 440 carbon rods and balllinks all the way around. I used Du-bro horns that look exactly like the ones supplied, and through bolt-plated them.

I simply can't let wood screws hold the horns in.....that is insanity.

The geometry of the tail feathers stinks. THe cuts in the elevator are not deep enough, so the rudder horn MUST be cut down. THe servo bays do not put the hinge line and the servo center in the same line for the elevator. THe rudder bay was OK, but no way can you use a clevis, unless you are OK with it bending. I am not. Same for the ailerons. Ball links all the way.

THe fuse popped apart on the first assembly. The little bars that hold it on top , popped and the fuse bowed out, the wing fit distorted the fuse. All when first assembling it. It was a fight.

It did look like the weak point of the fuse is right at the trailing edge of the wing.....maybe some CF rods in the right place would stiffen it up. I am guessing that is where it would fail on a lading mishap. Maybe not , the canopy might stiffen it up .

I did cut away some of the back stab joint at the fuse for more travel , like previously mentioned...no-brainer.

The throttle servo is going to take some creativity, either cable, or goldenrod.

I added blasa over the front hole cutouts in front of the gas tank, and put fuel dots on one side and a JR Chage switch on the other. It is TIGHT up there. but it all fits.

Aside from fit issues, the tail feather linkage clearance and geometry, I like this plane. It is not too terrible to get perfect. The stock linkage is not throw-away, but it assumes you dont mind "fudging" it.

Bottom line it is nice ARF , with only a little obsessing over for someone like myself to get it near perfect.

My Setup will be:

YS 1.10 w/stock muffler

Tru turn spinner and 17x4W APC prop

Hangar 9 filters vent and fuel

Hangar 9 fuel dots..(2).

JR8411's in the tail.

TOWER Pro MG995 Ebay servos in the ailerons....(acid test for these, not permanent).

custom CF linkages with Dubro 440 ball links.

Dubro horns bolted through to thier plates.

HS 85mg on throttle.

JR 649 PCM 50MHZ 8 ch. receiver .

6V 2100 nimh, battery with JRCharge sw.

Stock tail wheel until it fails......although I think it will be fine.

stock LG and pants ...very nice pants. I will make a decision on CF gear after maiden.

This Proffy should WOW 'em at the field. I won't be kind to it, and will thrash it about like mad.

I will post pictures of my linkage, and setup before maiden.

Yeah,

I flew it 12 times and creamed it in.

I took pictures , but I am too disgusted to post them .

It flew very well, awesome elevator control wit he throw maxxed out and dremeled for the max.

Waterfalls like 1 a second. Very fast. High alpha KE slow, ,,,at a walking pace. KE loops are no brainer. Slow harrier entry into hover is awesome. Torque rolls easily. ALMOST an asecnding flat spin.

Lands like a trainer, no landing gear issues at all. YS1.10 is the ticket for unlimited performance...in the stock location.

I lost radio control, slowly, very strange..had it , then didn't...would roll one way very fast, but not the other..no roll. I had a about a minute and half of fighting it, telling the other flyer up at the time to move out.

I got it into the center of the field, try to get it down in a circle, when she snapped and headed nose in. Batteries checked out, receiver checked out R770 50mhz. The only thing I can think of was maybe, just maybe the wing rotated. I wasn;t close enough to tell , before it hit the ground.

Wings undamaged..anti rotation pins need replacing , thats it. Fuse ....motor square broke off cleanly. Ground was soft, so the Tru-turn wasn;t damaged...maybe the motor is OK. Fuse cracked in few places.

I stripped it, and have CA'd back straight, and am going to laminate 1/16 Cf plate on the side s of the fuse to re-attach the motor box. I would not do this if it did not fly awesome. It did.

THe landing gear wasn;t even bent. Nor was the pants damaged. Canopy cracked but CA'd up.

it wont be pretty , but it will fly again. It really impressed the other flyers at the field, me too.

If the fuse and tail feather were cheap enough I would buy another, but this s probably easier than building a new one.

I need a wing tube. thats it. I was planning on flying this all weekend, but , oh well.

Different receiver and batteries next time, just for peace of mind. And....longer anti rotation pins...safety pinned to the fuse.
