Hi,
Does anybody know of any 35% (ish) models available in the UK which are 3D capable. (I've got a Glens Cap).
Looking for something like an extra or edge.
Do Carden import to the UK?
Cheers

I need your help, do you know where can i get some reviews and information about the sukoi 80" from glen models, I have one and the manufactures CG is wrong, they say unlimited performance with a 40 cc gas and my 3w 42 can hardly go vertical. No one hear at rcuniverse no much about this kit because is made is Scotland I believe and I think you don't get them in the US.

Did you try to give petrol power UK a ring? They import alot of different kits, and might have something around 35%.I think they do FiberClassics aswell. Probuild might also have something.

Hi,
Robert...thanks i've just looked at their sites...don't think petrol
powers been updated in a while!! CHeers anyway!
TD1, I have no experience with (i presume your talking about) the 1/4 scale sukhoi however you can contact glen at [email protected].
Just out of curiosity what weight did it come out at...i have seen a couple fly of both sizes and seem to be fine. I've got a 18-20lb model with a Quadra 42 in and it goes vertical for a adequate distance. Is the 3W the twin cyclinder or a single? What prop have you got on it? What exhaust have you got on it?
If you post some more info i'll help if i can!

Hi,
Yup I think i'll save up my pennies and email carden see if they deliver outside the US.
Do like the sound of the 35% edge they do...and I hear nothing but good comments regarding theyre customer service.
Will have to see... i think fiberclassics are a little outside my budget...nearly £2k for an airframe only!!!!
Cheers

I have the 76" Glens Sukhoi but have not flwon it yet (only had it a short while ... waiting for engine) It's ready to take a Zenoah 62, and i've heard that it has unlimited vertical on this setup.
I have seen one with a Quadra 42, and it was nice, but lacking for vertical. It had vertical performance, no real deceleration, but certainly had no acceleration. I need to know the CG too... as I havent a clue... very little detials of the model!
I'd suggest Carden and let me know if they'll export to the UK, fancy one myself... can't see it beating the Glens CAP too much for 3D though, if my H9 Edge is anything to go by!
Should be flying the Sukhoi at next years UK shows.. unless it's crap! it's very heavy for what it is. Glen suggested 13-15lbs... this one i think will be at least 16... unless my scales are nackered... i'll weigh it again!
actually got it for £60 at a swapmeet in pretty good cond.... can'ty be bad... came with some (crap!) servos and smoke system too!

I haven't had the change to weigh the model assembled on a decent scale, I had the fuse with all the electronics, engine, batteries, except for the main wing and undercarriage on a bathroom scale and was showing around 13.2 lbs so I am assuming the total weight to be around 16.5 lbs. I'm running the 3w 42 (single)with the exhaust from catus aviation for the 3w engines (i don't know what brand it is) and swinging a master airscrew 20x10 @ 6500 rpm. The engine is still fairly new and I want to try the Menz 20x10 but the local shops are out of stock so just have to wait. At the moment you can get much vertical out of the all set up, just i bit disappointed

Got my for around 68 pounds (if my conversion is correct) so I just got the new engine for it (can always put it on something else).
Regarding the CG, I e-mail Glens Models and the CG that they give me almost cost me the model on the maiden flight, too tail heavy I had to add +/- 1.1 lbs of nose weight and i don't know if the CG is right, but flights a lot better. I have around 10 flight so far on that plane.

Hi
Welsh3d i'm not entirely suprised to hear yours is a little over weight...apparently alot are (but only the sukhoi suffers this problem from what i hear). As for a zenoah 62...i would imagine it would go vertical quite well...my cap weighs 17lb dry and with a mejlik 22x10 @7500 goes vertical VERY well...it can just pull out of a prop hang but not with much authority.
TD1 unfortunatley it sounds like it maybe just a tad too heavy however i would think the 3W would do it proud to be honest...it would probably be worth weighing it together just to see. The other thing is get some air time with the engine...its suprising how much more 'go' they can develop once run in. The other thing you could try is using either a Menz Ultra (you'd need to contact your dealer about prop sizes etc) or use a mejlik prop the same size...you may pick up some revs.
The glens Cap 232 does 3D great its just i want another toy!!

The Sukhoi always is heavy because of it's design. The fuselage is rounded but blends to becoem more square sided at the rear.
To do this there are two flat sides as the fuselage sides, and then the rest is sheeted balsa/ply around it from what i can see. I understand why it is heavy... just a complex shape, and none of it is open structure either.
The good thing is, I'll have a Z62, so if the Suk is no good, I can soon buy a Cap or their new extra/sukhoi!
I'm to believe people are using the GT-80 twin in the CAP now too???
TD1: £68 will be somewhere in the region of $100 - $150 ... if you're from USA ... actually possibly a little more, i'm not up to date on the £$€£$ conversion right now!
Quite sure a DP Extra is next on my list however - which is also why i'm interested in shipping costs from Carden!
Nice talkin to ya!

Thats alot of lead!!...the instructions that far out!...mind you the cap 232 you don't get a CoG I just went on whats reasonable and thankfully i wasnt far out!! You would think the instructions would show a conservative CoG though for initial flights at least!!

That's Wilson Li from YT I think.... also they have a Turbo Raven 3D coming out soon I believe in two quite nice big sizes.
CAP: are you talking about Paul Carr who flies the Olympus one for Glen?? His seemed to have much better performance than Glens own did when I saw them both flying, though I thought they both had a G -62.

Hi,
Yup i think it was Paul Carr... I flew at weston park this year a couple of slots after him and Glen. His definatley has the edge on vertical performance.

Aerografixs i've seen a what looks like 1/3rd scale turbo raven at a couple of shows which is a proper turbo prop driven jobby...looks very nice...not sure what the throttle lag is likely to be on a turbo prop though. Would like to see it fly especialy on the 3D side...just imagine a turbo prop, prop hanging just off the deck!!

I flew at Weston too, though I had to fly an unreliable Ultimate as my larger, more impressive models were out of action at the point.
Saturday was great but Sunday was nothing but trouble with an engine misfire, and dodgy wind direction at the time of my slot... taking off toward the near trees!
Most enjoyed it though. Should be flying with a formation team next year.

Welsh 3D,
Just out of curiosity whats your real name?
Thats the only problem with Weston Park...no matter which way you take off its always towards the trees!!
My slot was'nt to good as they wanted me to fly with 8 other fun flys which i refused. The slot i flew in was with friends even though the aircraft were completley different...the organisers were concerned with my Cap 232 flying with my Dads Tiger Moth (mainly due to the speed difference)...you should of seen their face as i got lapped by my Dads Moth when i went into a harrier!!
Another just out of curiosity...which display team are you flying with next year?
Have fun

I saw you flying with a Tiger moth!! Let me know when you book next years and we could as kfor the same slot... i'll definately be flying 3D.
My name's Nathan Farrell-Jones..... I advertised Just Engines on my models last year (unsponsored though) but this year I'm flying YS, and still MVVS.
I was in the Web watch of RCMW this month with my website.... and RCM&E quite often.
The display team is one i'm putting together... or plan to.
it might be with three aircraft.. or two. A clubmate might be flying a Kyosho CAP with me, I might be flying the Sukhoi with another clubmate who also has one, and I will most probably be also flying with Dean (from here) in a freestyle/3D thing... provided that we get prac time... he lives in plymouth, and me in North Wales, and neither of us are old enough to drive either! We'd would be flying my 3D ship at the time and his YT CAP 21 (he's a pretty awesome flier aswell!
We might also be flying his cougar and my Hype together.. if we can get the same slots.
If I can find a sponsor or get my LHS to get me in, I'd like to fly at Sandown.
I'll also be flying at soem club fly-ins...certainly my own at Delyn, the Lleyn one, and hopefully the RCM&E Freestyle. Also hopefully may compete in some IMAC if I can get a model for it.... the H9 Edge I had planned won't go near any decent IMAC stuff... it's crap! Got an Extra 300 on the way soon too. Not for 3D, but I think it'll fly IMAC nicely. The one I flew which generated my interest in this particular deisgn, really flew well, just like a patternship really, but it does have quite a bad stall when slowed. no problem when flying though, it'll pull tight enough without snapping out. Should be fun!
What's your real name? Might have heard of you around!

Hiya,
My real name is Richard Gale...last two years i flew the LMA circuit mostly and obviously Weston Park. Next year however i'll do the IMAC thing and see how we go, if i get chance i'll also support the LMA shows too. I also want to do the RCM&E freestyle, i nearly did it this year except that i realised i was already booked into Much Marcle on the Sunday. Next year it'll be IMAC 1st then shows 2nd. At least i''ve got the winter to work on a freestyle routine!..this is gonna be hard work!!
Oh btw have you got G2 flight sim?...if so give us a shout for a multiplayer session.
Cheers

Hi there is a well known designer and maker of large scale aerobatic kits in North Wales called Alan Hawes. He does extras caps and edge 540t s at 33% and 42% scale. The edge 540T 33% retails with prebuilt wings for £395 and the best engine by far for it is the ZDZ80.The average all up weight is about 25 pounds.Look for his adverts in the magasines RcmodelWorld and RCMand E

Hi,
Yup, Alan from A.H Designs...i've seen the edge fly although i thought it was a aeroworks kit.
If flew very well...the full throttle ground check i found amusing as on 3D rates it was jumping round with the helper trying to keep it down!!
Good thought though...i'd forgotten about them!!
Cheers
p.s. their site is http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~ahdesign/home.htm
