i just got a futaba 9c for my helis and i is absolutely awsome for 3-D (plane) setups i have triple rates and elevator/flaperon mixing all programed into it and i didnt even look at the manual took me about 10mins tops for setup! this radio is the best futaba ever made (for the price), its very user friendly and it can do most of the things those 9z's can do!

Thing was, I paid 500 cash, and traded my old 8U for a never used 9Z from one of my friends. And I got two receivers, a campac, and a synthesized module.

I bought a 9C last year for doing 3D and I couldn't be happier with it. I can't see ever outgrowing this transmitter. For the money it cannot be beat! Long live Futaba!

Just picked up a 9c TX (only) for $260 from servo city. Cant beat the price and I think its hella cool. Nothing wrong at all with this TX! Nice to be able to program the switches and the programing is extra easy!

A few of you have mentioned that you love the 9C for 3D planes. Since a few of us were just having a conversation in the 9Z thread about the 9C vs the 9Z for 3D, I have a question you can be a help with.
In your 3D setups, I assume you are using triple rates, since the 9C doesn't have conditions or flight modes. While that can handle the big throws, how do you go about setting up the rest of the functions for 3D? Or are you only doing big rates? If not, how are you setting up and using the other typical functions?

sfaust are you talking about flaperons?? Heres how i set mine up on my 540 profile.
triple rates/low and 2 highs.
low is set for flat spins and gentle flying(wich is rare for me)
high 1 is set for general flying(walls, knifeedge loop, waterfalls.etc....)
high 2 is set up for elevators and harriers.(20% static spioler dialed in)
I just think about what menuver I want to do and throw the switch.
d/r expo and any mix is in the switch.its like i have 3 fightmodes.
hope this andwers your ?.

The reason why I like my 9Z is the ball bearing gimbals, and the flight conditions. Its all personal prefernce. If you like the 9C, thats cool. If you think the 9Z rocks(like me
)thats cool, right?

If I read you correctly, the 9C gets you most of what a flight condition offers, at least in the way most people use them. They offer a lot more, but rarely do I see people using them. In fact, most 9Z or 10X users I run into are not using flight conditions at all.
It sounds like the 9C is quite capable for 3D setups being used by the average 3D pilots.
Thanks for the feedback.

I know the 9C is not the best heli radio but what is missing from the airplane program? The only thing I can think of is multi-point throttle. And I can figure a way around that if I really wanted. Expo works for now. Maybe if I got into the bigger planes it would be a little more important but the small ones the expo does the job good enough. Whats so differnt about flight modes other than like 16 diffrent D/R??

yep the 9C does that plus i can put mixs on the switchs also. And with 7 mixs on the airplane setting i can do some sh**. I do have diffrent flaperon setting betwen high 1 and 2 also. When im doing walls and what not the plane likes lots of flap but when i do harriers (high 2)i have less flap becouse harriers dont like that much flaperons. if the plane had some coulpleing in knifeedge i would put those mixs on low rate.(witch is my normal flying mode) but it flys strait in knife.
so how much did the 9Z cost????
sorry i had to.

9C is a fine radio, but you do get for what you pay for extra on the 9Z like synthesized module, ball bearing stick gimbals, smooth side sliders, 13 point throttle curve, unlimited programmability on all sticks and switches with the exception of the trainer/th-cut switch, and many more. But I would have to say the 9C is all out the best radio in the $450~$500 range.

In normal flying, I want a specific set of parameters setup. But in 3D flying, everything is different as far as flight characteristics go. While in 3D, I want different rates, a different throttle curve, I want neutral for the rudder to be offset to counteract the thrust differences, I have trims set differently, and only while in 3D mode, do I want spoilers activated. Flight modes offer much more, but those are the basics.

Wonder how the new JR 9X(s?) will perform? Its really going to annoy the 10x users, what looking the same... with most of the functions... and HALF the price...

I did forget about the diff trims in flight modes. But any way....I paid $380 for mine at the LHS and its my best radio to date. Just love it. Not bad for a radio that does at least 75% of what the big one do and 1/2 the price. JR has a new 9 coming out??? I can see a radio war starting right now.... hehehehe. You know who gets the better end of that dont you??
