Default 3 Bladed Prop for 3D

Would there be any advantages of using a 3 bladed prop for 3D flying? You'd think for hanging on the prop it would be better since there is more prop area.

I think the only advantage is better down line breaking than with a 2 blade. Overall 3 blade props are not nearly as efficient than a 2 blade, but they look cool and if you have the power to spare go for it.

Just curious did you get the problem with the evo figured out?

depends on the engine..... anything under...about a 50cc engine.... the 3 blade prop is far too inefficient....
some use them on sport/trainer planes, or on a scale application, but they are very inefficient for 3D...

what engine?

I'm still working on it. Dick Hanson had mentioned in an earlier thread that the 24x10 might be too much for the engine here at 5000 ft. So, I ordered a smaller prop today. I wanted to get a Mejzlik 24x8, but they don't make one so I got a 23x10. Another guy started using a 24x10 on his and only got 6200 RPM so i'm also thinking the altitude may play a big role. I replumbed the tank in case the problem was arising there. I doubt my new prop will be here by this weekend so I can see what the current improvements are. I know some people may disagree with the prop decision, but right now I think it's something i'm going to end up trying in the end.

What is best for downline braking? Large diameter or large pitch?

large diameter with a low pitch will provide outstanding braking.....

So a 23x8 will be more efficient at braking than a 22x10?
How about an 3x21x10 in a theoretic comparison?

As it is, these are the choices that I consider for my Evolution 45GX (equal to DA50 in power), but can't quite decide. Will use for 3D and precision, with bias towards precision.

23x8 would be better at braking than a 22x10. I can't say about the other prop. The reason why I bought a 23x10 is that the 24x10 seems to be too big and Mejzlik doesn't make a 24x8. I'm not trying to stay with them because of the name, but rather that I have a carbon fiber spinner and I don't want to adjust the slots myself.
