I think you'll like the Velox. Good luck.
I didn't reinforce the motor box at all. It just vibrated loose where the firewall dovetails into the side box area. All you need to do is drop some CA or epoxy in the joint area. No need to add a bunch of wood or anything, just check the glue joints.
I did reinforce the are just under the front part of the canopy. It broke a couple of times. I finally just added a little sheet of balsa under that area and glued it. That seems to have cured it.
In my opinion you will need more servo power on the elevators. This is an important part of 3D flying and I certainly would want more power on the elevators. I'm running 5945 on mine and also the rudder. I run 5625 on the ailerons.
I'm running the mighty 110 in mine. I changed from the Saito 125. I love the way it flys. The 110s can be a pain to get running right but once you do they work great. My advice would be to open the regulator to 3 turns from fully closed, open the main jet to 1 3/4 turns from fully closed and open the low speed jet to 1 1/2 turns from fully closed. It will probably run there with no dead sticks. Then you can close the main jet a bit if needed. But the key is getting the regulator open enough. I use a 16x6 APC prop. If you are low you may use a 16.5 x 5W. Also the 17x4W works good for me and I use that when I want to hover a lot. But I like the 16x6 better for all around flying.
Good luck.
thanks

Thanks for the info, Barry. I'll give the joints a going over.
I'm going to go with the 5245s and will report back how they do. I've run a single elevator 5625 on a number of my bigger 3D birds (65" Yak, Fusion 90, Kat 70) with no lack of authority or blow-back so I'm satisfied with the 2 5245s. If they aren't up to it, I can always change them out and rebalance with a battery move or a little lead.
The 110 I have came from a guy I know to make them run well so I'm sure I'll get it. After about 8 Saitos, it will be a nice challenge!
I am seriously tempted to see how the 120AX would do though. I love that engine!!

The Saito doesn't have the same power as the mighty 110 at my elevation. I think they would be the same at sea level but the YS has supercharging which is better in thin air. I was pretty satisfied with the Saito and it seemed to run good but didn't have quite the "snap" I was looking for. It would definently hover and have pull out. The major difference was in "Waterfalls". That maneuver takes a bunch of power and snap. The YS picked that up quite a bit.
Thanks
Barry
Sigman...
I look forward to your thoughts and flight reports. This is a pretty nice plane.
Thanks
Barry

Barry,
[sm=thumbup.gif] so I will be ok with the Saito 125 at sea level.
Do you've had problem to balance correctly the velox with the saito? Any suggestion....

Yes the Saito 125 would be an excellent choice. Especially at the lower elevation.
Balance shouldn't be an issue. I put my battery right on the outside of the motor box all the way forward. I just zip tied it there. I put the rudder servo in the fuse and used the pull/pull operation. I am 1/4" aft of the recommended CG. I'm fine. Very easy to land yet flys good there.
Good luck.
Thanks
Barry

G/day everyone.
Have got myself one of these Velox's. Am fitting A MVVS 160 with Bisson pitts muffler. Anyone set one up like this?. The under carrage seems fairly flimsey, looks like you do in a few props unless it is strengthened. With the 160, what size fuel tank are you using & did you fit the rudder servo down the tail?
Cheers;
Herb.

I don't recall any black rubbery tape in mine. But, it's been a while since I built it. But I sure don't remember anything like that.
I think you'll like the plane though. Flies very nice.
Thanks

The plane flys extremely well with Evolution 1.6 gasser and in cowl muffler and 18x6 slimmed Zinger Pro prop
including -it will hover and torque roll her at 4350 ft elevation
smooth flyer
no bad habits at all

Would a Saito 100 be enough on the Velox?

Hello Guys,
I got that plane ready to go with an OS120AX, very good match with a APC 16x6 get about 9500RPM still a new engine 1/2 a gallon only on it. It fly extremely good. For some reason, almost every time I flight it, the cowl crack? why I don't know, there almost no vibration with that OS engine. I will probably send an email to Jason and see what he can do for me. Any other got that? Let me know. Also I made a quick video of the plane.

Choopi---I have been flying mine with a TT 120 Pro and have also had some cowl cracking. I contacted Jason 3 or 4 weeks ago about getting a new cowling and he said he did not have any then. I sure would like to g

Got one on order,no specific plans yet for engine & flight pack, just going to keep it around for a winter project or maybe if something should happen to one of my current birds, can't imagine what that might be,dont even want to think that way but nice to have something to make you forget your woes, its becomeing a pattern ,lose a plane, get a plane-all better.

Mixmaster--You will probably like the way it flys, I do, but better hope you don't need any spare parts for it. I have been trying to get a cowling for almost 3 months and am not getting any good vibes about ever getting one from Maxair. Just so you know.
