This is a 2 minute video of some basic 3D. It's a little cloudy so the video is a little dark.
Engine: Moki 1.8
Fuel: 5%
Prop: Bambula 18x8
CG: H9's recommendation (Well Nose Heavy)
Weight: 13.5lbs (What a PIG!)
I'll listen to any advice on lightening her up. I'd like to loose at least 1.5lbs pounds so it will fly better 3D.

It flies pretty good. It would be competitive for basic/sportsman IMAC. It sinks like hell when it's inverted though, it's nose heavy, my incidence meter shows all 0 and thrust line is 0. Should be able to fix nose heavy problem when I change to CF gear and lite flite wheels and change to a plastic spinner, change the all metal gear throttle servo to a mini servo. I don't understand how some people using ZDZ-40 only weights 12.5lbs.

I was planning to build mine with a ZDZ40 and my calculated weight including an allowance of some 8 ounces for glue and little things was about 12.75lbs and was even going to use dual 5975s in the tail on elevator so I think its possible to see one at 12.5lbs.
I bought CF gear and chopped out some wood from the fuse but never really got into building the plane and then I sold the ZDZ so I dont know for sure if I would have met my calculations. Now I think the ZDZ would have been too heavy anyway so I'll prolly build mine with a Saito 180 at some point and shoot for about 11lbs.
Mecam do you know how the Edge would balance with the 180 and two 2 ounce servos under the canopy, you said its noseheavy for you right?

Damn, thats bad news mecam.
One thing I would most certainly look at replacing on the edge is that awful 7 once horizon hobby metal engine mount. Anyone know of something else that will take a Saito 180?

Damn, that H9 mount is 7oz??? I think I should change that also to Nylon. I heard the Kange Cap232 flies awesome 3D with the Saito 180 @ 10.5lbs. IMO the Saito180 is not enough for the H9 Edge.

Mecam please let us know how it goes. I have a hangar 9 edge as well that I'm still trying to figure out what engine to place in there. I really wanted to go with the new zdz 40 b. I thought that at 3.875lbs, it might work but i really don't know for sure. I've heard of people that have them in there but i haven't seen anyone doing real 3d with this combo. But then again i haven't seen anyone doing REAL 3d (torque rolls 5 ft off the deck, elevators down to the deck and flowing into rolling harriers, slow high alpha knife edge, etc) with a H9 Edge of any combo.
It sure would be nice to see your buddy Zak doing some of these moves with the edge. If i have to go with the saito 180 so be it , But i sure wish i had another cheap option (15.00/Gal ahhhhhhh).

sal98, I'm hoping to get her down to 12lbs and hopefully it flies better 3D. Zak, had this plane a year ago with a Moki 2.10, never really saw him do 3D with this plane but he said it does not fly like the DP Extra. The DP flies bigger, slower, and easier for 3D. DP is sending him the DP Edge as soon as it comes out and we will see how that performs. With the Saito 180, they recommend 30% for 3D so that is $30.00 a gallon.

a buddy has a h9 540 with a os 1.6 and it wieghs 13 bls. It really doesnt feel that heavy in the air. The cg was at 4 inch when i flew it so not a hole lot of anything was tryed. It took about 3/4 down elevator to keep it from falling when inverted. Watching the video the 2.1 really pulls this plane around! The 1.6 does ok but its not tuned yet. This thing has a metal motor mount???? Gonna have to look in to it. Any way, the cg got moved to 4.5 and as soon as the weather breaks we will get some more flights on it.
Might be able to get it down to 12.5. will have to look in to it.
As far as i can tell from looking at other guys planes here and on the market the h9 540 is pretty lite for its size. Maybe im wrong.

Mine is 12lbs with a gasser and still rubbish for 3D.... the model itself is hardly any good for 3D.... tried all different CG's.. settles on the hingleline at tip.
www.aeroforce.co.uk/freestyle ... go to the edge page for videos and pics... i have some more vids to go on there shortly.

The plane is an OK 3Der, just gotta get it ligher. Harriers and elevators are pretty cool with spoileron mixing. My biggest problem is the power to weight ratio, my plane is 13.5lbs and the moki only produces an 18.3lbs thrust.

You can order the parts from www.sheldonshobbies.com and the mount cost $27.99 (model# JT-MK150P)

After I do major lightening surgery. I'm gonna try to get her down to 12lbs.
