DAVEOPAM, is your engine well broken in ? that can make a difference in how much prop it will turn. I have tryed the 20/20 it worked well, but, the 30% cool power is about the same price so I choose to run the higher nitro.

Randy Racer,

How is the pipe set-up going? Do you have any pictures?

Thanks,
Iain

davopam, i like wood props due to price, lighter weight, less damage to engine with prop strike, less damage with a arm or finger strike, and faster spool up on most cases. the zinger pro is a pretty good looking prop but our lhs doesn't keep them. i just order xior and menz props from Desert Aircraft.

IMK, on most 2 strokes i love the mousse can pipe, i've used them on 46's to 160's and they are the way to go if you can get or build one.i use the ones that jerry smith builds. i cant post pics but later i might get some and email some to you if you like. every time i try to post pics here i get shot down.

EMVIN, The engine only has a gallon through it. I figured it would pick up a little with more use. I just don't think it will ever turn the 18x6Pro Zinger. It's not like it will fly it just not well. It wont run well enough to attempt a flight. Maybe I am just spoiled. The plane I fly most of the time has a better than 2:1 power to weight ratio. After it everything else feels soft. Maybe the big Saito will come to life with a little more time. I just don't think it is as strong as some I have seen.

Thanks for the input,
David

daveopam, thats probably a good point your expectations may be high. If your getting 8500rpm out of it with the 18" PZ thats probably the best it will get. ....EMVIN....

hello fello rc fans I have just finished assembly of my 73" yak and also just discovered rc universe. I also was impressed with the quality of this arf and the hardware,I used it all except I added the sulivan tailwheel bracket and went to a 24OZ tank in the stock location.
I have A saito 180 in the nose and from the valuable info I have read so far on this thread will be adding A perry vp-30 pump.

I have A question about servos though. I have hitec 5645's on ailerons and rudder but have instaled the spektrum ds821's on the elevators at 72 oz. of torque. do you think they will work? I noticed several people on this thread have switched to one servo.

i like staying with servos over 100oz and digital due to the size of the control surfaces. high torque digis help control flutter and center better. you will love the little yak. good luck and keep us posted on your first few flights.

I have the QQ YAK 54 73" with a Brillelli 40cc on the business end. I just got around to putting all the gear inside and was looking in the manual at the throws. Now I'm not a 3D flyer but the 8mm (5/16) thow on the elevator seems pretty small. Can someone tell me what theirs is set at or what would be a good starting point to get it into the air.

Mike Lad,
No need for the pump on a big Saito, they run prefect without them!! Very good fuel draw If you have the tank behind the firewall. A pump is just one more thing to cause problems. I fly a Saito 120 and a 220 without any deadsticks!!! I probably have between 300-400 flights on my 120 over 4 seasons with not a single dead stick!!! If you put the tank fartherback like over the cg then you might need the pump.

the fuel tank needs to be on the CG line on this plane. when the fuel is a foot back from the engine will the saito still pull fuel in a long up line? the YS will but the OS 160 will not and a perry pump is the way to go. very small CG movement changes the flight on this plane a bunch so i like for the fuel burn not to chance CG.

the saito would not pull fuel for me when the tank was on the cg so I dumped the pos saito and run a ys 140. much happier now : )

I started on mine without the fuel pump ( saito 180 / tank on CG ) It did run, but was getting hot so at that point the pump was added. Setting it up right does take some time but once its done there is no need to touch it again. .....EMVIN....

The YS is a great Idea if you dont already have a set up....

A friend of mine has an OS 160 on his 72'' QQ Yak. He has the tank on the cg without a pump with no problem on the uplines. I was kind of suprised but it's true. I dont know how the Saito would do but I would try it just to find out.

thanks for the response on the fuel pump topic. I just bought A vp-30 yesterday, guess I just want to be ready to go with everything on hand and ready when the good weather comes. it's only 4 Deg.F now in Rittman OH.
I read somewhere that fuel tank size is A factor in fuel draw and wonder If the people having good performance without the pump and the tank near the CG are using the stock tank at around 16OZ.

I had the saito 180 in A gintscaleplanes.com 72" katana and it had no fuel draw problems but it had a small 15 OZ. tank mounted behind the fire wall but flight time was way to short at about 8min. so I mounted A 24 OZ tank in this QQ yak.

I read ZIPPI's question on the elevator throw. I also thought 8mm. was kind of small but after looking at the illustrations it looks like the throw on the rudder and elevators are measured on the counter balance at the leading edge while the aileron throw is measured at the trailing edge?

any more input on my earlier question of using spektrum/JR DS821 72 OZ servos on the elevator. I know the manual says to use 130 OZ om all surfaces but an elevator half is much smaller than an aileron and has A counter balance.
if I dont use these what else would be agood choice and fit in the openings, the hitec 5645's I used on the ailerons would not fit. are the 5625's smaller.

Hey Guys,

I am looking at this aircraft as my next build. Could Zippi or anybody else running a me 40CC Brillelli point me to the website. I looked on www.www.scottellingson.com but did not see a 40CC.

Also If someone could post a few links to where to buy the QQ yak, I would appreciate it!

Thanks!

Jeff

I broke mine in with an apc 18-6 and hope it will be sufficient as I don't have any others except a 20- 6. It seemed to be doing great on break in with the 18 - 6 today will be the maiden after Easter dinner! wish me luck

I just finished my Yak with a Saito 180 and I need an opinion on how much cowl to cut for engine cooling. Here are some pics of what I have so far

Please post your thoughts
