Got a question about batteries...i came across some info about li-po batteries and amp draws and stuff and developed doubts about using the 1800mA packs in series to make 6S. Can anyone tell me if its ok on the 1800mAH li-po's to be hooked up in series like this? would they be over discharged or have amp draw more than they can provide?? i cant measure the current draw so wanna be sure.

The darned 4000mAH still havent arrived.

so far i've flown with 3S and its slugish to say the least.

P51delta, you and i are in the same boat. Whats the latest on your plane. i wish i could check on this thread more often.

BTW, i flew mine and it needed no trim! was very happy with the way it came out. Lets see how it does on 6S

Roald,
I think your FS-70 will be more than enought, I put an FS-91 S/P in mine and let me tell you that it is more than enough, Yes, my plane lifts off in no more than 10 meters at full throttle, but I have a lot of stability problems due to the engine´s high torque in flight. Every time I pull full throttle stick, my plane turns right as if I give right ailerons input.
I modified my engine and it gives 300 rpm more than my Saito FA-100 with the same APC 15X4 W prop.
Now, I´m planning to install maybe an O.S. 70 Ultimate on it or maybe an O.S. 55 Ax will do the proper job.

Best regards.

I maiden my EDGE 540 EP last week-end, and I must way it was really nice even though I destroyed the landing gear. I used Unitied hobbies HXT50-55 motor with 6s1p 3200, really powerful setup !

The only drawback as I see it is the weak landing gear, it is repared already so not a big deal .. but maybe good to re-inforce it somehow.

It was only short flight but plenty of power for hovering and other fun stuff.

I like the quality of Kyosho including the instruction manual, far above average.

Thanks Tiroloco !

Just another question: what would be a good prop for this FS70 ?

p51Delta, sorry pal, haven't been recieving any alerts for this forum, thought it was dead as well. And been busy with helis. Anyway how's it going with your Edge? When I went to buy the engine the LHS guy literally forced me off the Fa100 for this plane but I know why now. The Fa82 has loads of power and with all the electronics mounted as far back as possible it was still nose heavy and I got a Duralite 2900mah pack with regulator and I joined the elevator halves with a piece of aluminium and I mounted the elevator servo at the back and I had put in a pilot figurine. Shew. Now it's just about right but I still have to maiden it so we'll see. Waiting for my battery to come back from repairs on its charge circuit. By the way I only fly Duralites on all my nitros. Fantastic stuff with excellent service. I've only done some ground running on the engine so far but I can tell you this thing will be airborne in a few meters. The Fa100 will be too much for this plane. I'm actually concerned about how long the firewall structure will last with the Fa82.I'm using the stock mount.
Tiroloco, I think you're right, a smaller engine might do just right for this one. And you don't have to cut the cowl.

Ro,
For 3D acrobatics, I suggest you to use a 13X4W APC for that FS 70 and if you can get a Tru Turn spinner for wide blades, your plane will look great.
Now, if you can´t get the APC 13X4W propeller, get a 13X6 APC, Master Airscrew or the brand you prefer.
I´m sure you will enjoy the flight of your Kyosho´s Edge 540 with this set-up.

Best regards.

Hi Everyone,
I finally got my edge in the air. I ended up putting a .52 (8.5ccm) engine in it. The FA-100 I have wouldn't fit . I crashed on the second day out, while flying in a wind storm. I crashed due to the motor cutting off and not because of the wind. Fortunately the firewall was only broken in one place and otherwise only a few joints came apart. I glued it, let it dry and then put fiberglass matting on the inside and outside of firewall. It's running fine again. I wish I would have discovered fiberglass and resin a long time ago.(I've only been flying for 2 years now.) It strenghtens good and is light. Otherwise I just built it all stock. It flys ok, but I still prefer my Oxalys F3A from Kyosho. I guess the FA-100 would have rattled this plane apart.

Finally got my maiden over . And after about 6 months since starting the build. It was in the air within about 4 meters with the FA 82 and a 14X8. Those small ailerons are very, very misleading because the plane has a phenominal roll rate with it at max rates. The other strange thing is this plane needed no trim at all. Put full power or take it off and the plane continues tracking straight. Engine thrust seems perfect. Gonna move the CG back a tad to assist with some manoeuvres and try a few different props. Love this plane.

Tornet, what prop are you using for your 6S setup?

I have tried 14x8 and 14x7 APC E, both are ok. 14x8 gives a bit more than 1000 W WOT.

tornet, How's the amp draw with the 14x7 APC E? i am running the same and i 'think' the amp draw is too high. the motor gets really warm (hyperion 4025) and the ESC is hot too. i am thinking of 5S...what's your experience.

Hi,

it is hard to compare since you have different motor, but with my 500kv HXT50-55b I got 47A with fresh batteri pack, so approx. 1000 W. Best is of course to measure the amp, but if you don't have anything to measure with, check in other forums, I know that your motor is used a lot in Hyperion YAK54, so lot of info in those theards.

Regards

Hi BadFish,

Can I ask you what did you use to tint the canopy ?? I am putting together mine Edge and I really like the way you did this.
Saludos

Hey luis,
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCY44&P=ML

A lot of hobby shops carry this stuff also. you can add layers to get the darkness you want. just be carefull on the hot days. some canopys will melt if its too hot out. good luck with the plane!

steve.
