a lot of guys use clear packing tape. or clear monocote.
personally, I don't seal the gaps on any of my planes. from 30% to .40 size glow I've never had a flutter issue. proper linkage, correct size servos, and installation is the key. just my opinion.

So. Here I am getting my Cap 232 ready to go and I have misplaced the Locknut set for the engine. It's a OS FS-70S Four stroke. It's pretty old and I can't find the specs for it to get the right size nut set for the spinner. Any ideads?
Thanks
Michael

5/16 - 24 is what the os 70 fs uses. might still be the same.

pretty simple. I actually used this method on the fliton extra. but used zip ties instead of the rubber bands. the placement of the screw to hold the wings on of the fliton was impossible to get to.
little scary to think rubber bands are holding the wings on. but I've done plenty of hard snaps and blenders with no problems.
the plane flys very well. very straight. 3d's well also. the wall is the only maneuver it is lacking in. kind of plows into it. I've moved the cg back a bit but if you go too far the ailerons get very twitchy. gonna try giving the elev. a little more throw. rolls are very quick. give a little rudder in the roll and hold on. lightening snaps. knife edges are very nice. very little coupling. ke loops no problem. I had it out the other day in some gusty conditions and it did well. It was getting knocked around in the sky. but coming in for a landing was uneventful.
I've been using the plane with a 5 cell battery. just recently my 6 cell came in and it's ballistic. the 5 cell was great and glow couldn't touch it. the 6 is just pure power. I have to limit my bursts because I'm pulling over 70 amps and thats what my esc is rated at.
some people might not like the landing gear on the plane it is very lite. I like it because of that. If you land too hard they will bend. they bend right back into shape.
here are some pic's.

Hello, How much torque does the servos need to fly this plane in 3D fligth, I Dont know if the Futaba`s 3151 digital servos can do the job, They deliver 54 oz-in at 6V.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hey Badfish,
I like your pictures but we want to see this bird flying in the sky.
Could you take even a short video of your next flight ... please ... please ... please ...
Btw, I have a question about your pictures. Where did you install your elevator servo ?
Kind Regards,
BogoMips.

I don't know much about futaba servos. but, 54oz's is plenty. I know standard jr servo's would be plenty also. I'm using hitec 5245's which are digital mini's. there rated at 61oz's.

pquintens,
I installed my elevator servo in the fuse. by the horizontal stab. I connected the elev. halfs with a piece of aluminum. I'm glad I did because the plane came out a touch nose heavy. Kyosho puts the elev. servo right next to the rudder pull-pull servo. then with wire and a long wood dowel goes back through the fuse then separates with two more wires out the sides of the fuse. to the elev. halfs. that leaves room for play and I probably get more throw with the servo in the rear.
here's some pic's of the elev. servo. and next to my aeroworks edge 50 size. I'll try to get something up for a video. we've had some crappy weather around here lately.

I put some clips together of my first couple flights. I was just messing around getting use to the plane. enjoy.

Steve, how's your rudder holding up with that cable pull pull system? I've just installed mine and it looks a bit flimsy to me. Also how did you manage to join the elevator halves? Did you cut a piece of the stabilizer for it? I want to keep the elevator servo at the front but the wooden control rod setup the manual talks about is giving me nightmares. I'm thinking of using 2 servos for the elevator.

Hi,
I have so far sticked to 3S lipo setup in smaller planes, and I remember that I promissed myself to never go to larger electrical driven planes since everything gets
exponationaly more expensive and complicated, but now I bought this nice EDGE plane, actually to large part due to this review, thanks Steven.
Anyhow, some short questions:
- I see many people using digital servos, I have some HS225MG, are they not good enought ?. I see that they have same torque at least
- to power the RX, are you guys using UBEC or external battery ? I was planing to use a small lipo with voltage regulator, not sure however.

rapman,
I'm sorry to say my edge has taken a dirt nap! all the controls locked up on a flight and it went in at 3/4 throttle straight down. not sure if it was my receiver or if someone was on my channel. the rudder system seemed fine for the plane though. in one of the earlier posts the first picture shows the small piece of alum. that I used to connect the elevator halfs. I did have to dremel away a good piece of the fuse. to allow for it's travel. 2 servos small servos would work also.
tornet,
I too thought it would be neat to have something a little bigger in electric. and it is much more money than a 3 cell set up. I used the 5245's and they are more than enough. I would think the 225's would work just fine. since it's electric the servo's take far less abuse than a glow or gas plane. I've seen a few people using them in E-planes this size. to power my rx I didn't have to use a ubec or another battery. the new jeti spin bec's have a built in ubec that can handle the additional cell counts of the bigger batteries. don't forget it's not a huge plane and adding a additional battery will be making it tight.
I had 2 batteries for my plane till it crashed. 3700 5 cell and a 6 cell 4000mah. the only part I didn't like about flying the plane was changing the batteries. taking the canopy off then manipulating the pack in place and velcroing it in just right was a bit cumbersome. but doable.
good luck with your new planes!
steve.

Oh sorry to hear about your crash ... hope you can repair it. Maybe external battery is safer, please let us know about the reason for your crash. If the esc was the cause, them definitly external battery for me. I have JETI controllers also, they are normaly very safe.

thanks tornet. definitely not repairable. spinner ended up 4" in the dirt. my lipo of course died as well. major loss there. it was definitely a receiver problem or someone was on my channel. everything stayed locked in the last input. esc wouldn't do that

Sorry about the crash. It's always heartbreaking after all the hard work put in. The thing I don't like about that rudder wire setup is the possibility of RF noise generation unless you've managed to keep them from rubbing against each other. I've already glued the elevators on so joining them is going to be tight. Thanks for all the useful info.

I ran my rudder wires straight back then through plastic tubing epoxied in the fuselage sides. they only rubbed in the tubeing exit which was fine.

[X(]Over five lbs![
] I was excited until I saw that. I'm sure that it will fly nice at that weight, but the SA Edge has the same WS and comes in at 2.5 lbs or less!

Steve is my flying partner. The video really doesn't do the plane justice. It is just amazing to watch (Steve Too).I don't think anyone would be dissappointed with it.

Hi Badfish, Is your plane still flying? I'm interested in getting one but GP instead. How did you do the set-up with the Alu. connector and the two Elev. halves? Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully not to difficult for an Avg. builder though.
Thanks

hey p51delta, no it's gone. I had the receiver lock-out on me. the plane ended up a mile away and 3 hours to find it. lol. this plane would do well glow powered. It's not one of those super-lites where the vibration from the engine will rattle all the joints apart. there's a couple ways to tie the elevators together. you could use heavy wire bend it in a " U " drill out the elevators to fit the wire. there are many planes that do it that way. I used a alum piece that I had off another plane. you can use wood too and epoxy them together. just keep it close to the hinge line. because you have to remove the area in the fuselage for the piece to travel. the pic from post #34 is the best one I have. if you look you can see the alum piece going through the hole in the fuselage tieing the elev. together. landing gear wire put in between the elev. and horizontal stab wouldn't require such a huge hole. hope I've helped.
GP your not compairing apples to apples. the SA edge is a 50" wingspan. the kyosho is 55". Big difference in a plane this size. also the SA is a kit. I know a lot of us would love to put a kit together. but... just don't have the time. I know that plane comes out real lite but I would have to change my gear out to some smaller stuff to get that plane to fly good. my battery alone weighs a pound.
jim, I guess I owe you a couple cookie bars for those comments. hopefully we'll get some good weather soon. I'm getting bored. lol.

I've got the GP version. Been waiting awhile for my new Engine which I just got. Saito 82. I've used the control rod method like the manual says but must say that I have an uneasy feeling about it. But gonna give it a shot and see how it feels though.

I have also built the control rod stock on my EDGE540 EP, I must say that it was better than I thought. Been in contact with other EDGE owners, and it seems most are ok with this solution.
I have not yet maiden my plane however, too cold in the north.
No seen many having the EP version, it seems that people in general are regarding the plane to be too heavy.
