Anyone out there who have flown this plane? Is a 36-40 engine really big enough or better go for 46-50 size? Any comments on it would be appreciated[8D]

There is a rather long thread in this forum for the Tribute. I have mine set up with an O.S 46 and pull\pull rudder servo on the tail. It will pull vert like a rocket. Its a little heavy but very fun. No heavier engine than 13 oz. will be great. I have another with a .32SX and its perfect for high alpha.

Hiya All!!!
This is kind of a cross post from the ARF forum....! :-)
I finially got a chance to fly my Tribute 36 with a old FP .40 today! What fun! I can see this as my favorite fun fly plane. The old FP gives it plenty of power. I have to work tuning the mixes for KE flight, on flat turns it wants to pitch down and roll...
If anyone has any experiance or suggestions for adjusting this plane for KE flight I would be glad to hear them! :-) Oh and I'm not using the SFG's, I fly off grass and they are more trouble than I want to deal with...

I have heard and seen that the evo 36 that comes with it is more than enough. Also for 3D you want to keep your plane as light as possible with a strong engine. If you are building the ARF version maybe some metal geared hi torque mini servos would be good.

Dan,
I'm going to try an 11x4 this week. I will let everyone know how it goes... This plane is a ball to fly! I'm still tuning the mixes and CG so I haven't gotten it settled in yet.
More later,

A friend has one with a 36 magnum(2 stroke). It does all the manouvers but personally i think pull out is a bit slow.Id go for a 39/40 size motor. The plane is a bit nose heavy with that magnum though (when the tank is full).

Hiya all!!!!!!!!!!!
I have spent most of the day playing with my Tribute .40FP combo... I have been trying the MAS K2 11x4 prop... Not bad... I think an APC 11x4 would be better but over all it is very nice. The engine turns 12300 to 12500 on the ground with no lean condition.
It pulls really nice in the vertical.. Not unlimited vertical but decent for a cheap .40. I'm learning to hover so I make a lot of mistakes and amazing as it may sound this combo will pull really hard from zero alt... Also my setup weights 3.6 lbs all up... Over all, I'm very happy... It will Harrier with some wing rock and spool up is really good compared to my cut down 11x5 MAS..
Next up....! APC 11x4...

I put together the PNP version of the tribute this weekend. I probably won't get to fly it for about a month though.
I have to say, that the JR servos that came with it are the sloppiest servos I have ever had. They don't even come close to centering after a stick deflection. I thought the PNP would be a good way to go since my LHS had it on sale, but if I have to replace the servos...[:'(]

Well my ol'FP .40 doesn't like the APC 11x4. The best RPM I could get with nice air and the same fuel was 11200... And it was heavier... So back to the MAS 11x4...

i recently bought one. Using and OS .40 SF for power. Hopefully, it will have enough power to prophang and do all other 3D aerobatics. What servos should i use. The manual states using any old standard torque servo will work. So i'm thinking the Hitec Hs-311?? Or do the servos need to be ball bearing servos. <div>
</div><div>Also, what do you recommend i do to strengthen the fuselage behind the TE. I heard many people complaining that Hangar9 didn't make that as strong as it should be.</div>

Keep it lite! The HS 311 or 425 will be just fine don't spend anymore if you already have something that is similar... Now for strengthening, you may want to consider a layer of 1/32 lite ply lamenated to the bottom of the fuse from behind the engine to in front of the tail surfaces. But keep my first statement in mine keep it light! :-)
Other than that fly the hell out of it and enjoy!

Hibrass,
try a Zinger 11X4. I heard it is also a pretty good prop. Plus, it being wood, it allows the engine to spool up a little bit faster than the APC, which is good for doing hovers and rolling harriers and such. Since it is also lighter, you might get more RPM out of your .40FP.

I just got mine together, and i am putting standard torque futaba servos. I have the choice between the magnum .40 2 stroke or the thunder tiger .46 2s stroke. anyone have any suggestions on the engine choice? seeing i have a little bit of weight with the servos does anyone know the weight with muffler of the two engines and the power to weight ratio for each? another question i have is that i have a prop i think will work but it doesn't say the pitch on it, anyone know how to measure this? Thanks so much! John

I have a few questions dealing with the plane. I two engines to choose from the thunder tiger pro .46 or the magnum .40 both two strokes. Anyone have experience with these and can tell me what i could expect if i used one or the other? Another question i have is what servo torque would be acceptable for the plane. I was wondering a standard servo with ~45oz-in would work? I plan on slow flight seeing this is a 3-d airplane.
Thanks so much for everyone's help thus far!

You will definitely be happy with the TT .46. From experience, the magnums don't have that great of a throttle response. If you plan on doing slow flight or 3D you want a very good throttle response. I have flown a couple of airplanes with a TT .46 and from my own experience with them, they all have it (once you break them in good and get them adjusted right). also, i think the Magnum is heavier. <div>
</div><div>Since you are using an engine that is more powerful than the recommended, i suggest you strengthen up the area behind the wing TE. Using some Carbon Fiber will do the trick and keep it lite. </div><div>
</div><div>For Servo torque the Futabas will be fine. Even the Hitec HS 311s will be fine. Whichever servos you choose i recommend you use a 6 volt battery. I have read that the JR 537 will be fine on 4.8 Volt, but for a 3D plane, whether you plan to 3D it or not, you want all the torque you can get from your servos.

I have one with a 52 Magnum 4 stroke and it flies great with it. You will have to mod the engine rails on the plane a bit for it to fit though.
