Default RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

A few mods on the Extra 260 this week.

New WT-540 carb being fitted for better performance and changing the Ni-Cds to Fromeco Li-Ion packs with Fromeco regulators for both ignition and RX. The nicds are not up to the job with the drain from the digital servos and the new Rcexl CDI.

The SPE40 should be able to pull another 2-300RPM

Take a look at the new A123 batteries -- they're *very* impressive and no regs are required. I'm using them in my 50cc gaser and they weigh less than the NiMH packs I had in before. These things will deliver 100A so they certainly don't sag, even with all the HS5955 servos I've got in this plane.

Works out cheaper than Lipos and regs too -- plus you get the benefit of *no* fire danger and a lifetime of around 2,000 charges along with the ability to recharge from flat to full in just 15 minutes.

Why would anyone use anything else these days?

There are a number of different vendors (check out the batteries forum) or you can make your own from bare cells which are also available from a number of sources. I bought some from Aircraft-world in Japan for US$17.95 a cell (only two cells required) and that meant the whole 2300mAH pack ended up costing around US$40 including lead, plug and heatshrink.

I"m gonna use a 1.80gas Airworld Moki engine.Do you think I will have enough ground clearence for the prop?
The smallest prop I can use with this engine the 18x8.

Georgee:
I would be very interrested in hearing how it goes with that engine and where your all up weight ends!!! I have the same engine and I am considering either the Su-26, Yak-54, Edge 540T or the Extra 260/330 from Peakmodels. I have not made up my mind yet, but I am leaning toward the Edge because of the larger wingarea. Is this something I should worry about???

OK. Will see in late december.Until then the plane will be sitting in its box.I have another 1.8 Moki gasser in a Cmpro Extra 1848mm.With this setup I was able to tow really big gliders. The Extra 260 is at least 1kg easier than the Cmpro so the power is gonna be awsome.Ts true that this engine is heavier than an SPE 26.Anyway,will see in the near future.

What up guys.... great to see this thread still going as this will be my project for the winter months.....

I am also up in the air about the engine choice for this project but I'm thinking about the CRRCpro26cc.

Has anyone had any experience with it??? or know which ignition it uses??????

Hi aandreas,
I have used a receiver without PCM in a CMPro Giles 202 140 with a Moki 180 gasser without any problems (aprox 30 cm between receiver and any of the engine electronics), BUT i will buy a PCM receiver in the near future, just to be on the safe side.

Hi,

The ignition modul and the sparkplug is fully shielded on the Moki,so its possible to use a good quality Fm receiver but I"m not so dare to do that.I"m always using Fut 149 Dp with gassers. So far so good. What"s more I"m planning to use Fut Fasst system with the gasser for the peace of mind.

Everyone,

I am seeing a bit of a trend here and it's really not a good one.

You should never use PCM to make sure you are not getting interference issues. If you do this you are asking for trouble. Interference never goes away, it only gets worse. It's good to use PCM for the failsafe but please do yourself a favor and test with PPM for several flights before going to PCM. If you have interference issues on PPM then correct them first.

HELLO ! After some flights with my 260 i believe that the MVVS with the standard barel type silenser is not as strong as i like . i used 17x8 18x6 and 18x8 metzz props .i have about 5 liters off fuel and the top end on a 17x8 is about 7300-7400 rpm and 7100 on a 18x6 . i think that the barell type kanister is very ineffisient . the all plane is at 4500grams dry and i use a 350cc tank .will it be a good choise to use a tuned pipe so i ll have same more power? ( model hovers ok but the pool out is week)

I am convinced an SPE40 is too much engine for the PeakModel Extra260 25%.

An SPE26 may have been the better choice. The plane is weak for a gasser with a 40cc motor in it. I am sure a glow motor would be great as well but its way over powered with this combo plus the nose weight is a real strain on the firewall and LG.

I may be swapping out the gear into a Hanger 9 Extra 260 27% which I was told a DA50 is too heavy but a SPE40 would be perfect.

Just a tip for those thinking of going the Peakmodel combo of Extra260 & SPE40

I got with Peakmodel and was told they do not except VISA, only Paypal. I do not use Paypal so I'm off to find another plane elsewhere.
