Im soon flying diablotin top, but flying standard servos doesnt sound nice. I dont know does it matter, since diablotin flys slow, but new hitecs digitals have 5.5kg of torque on 6v + digitals holding power, at 35$ each.
what would 3d flying look like with standard servos, compared to these digitals?
any experience? good, bad?

Hi ilmailija,
I use JR not Hitec. Initially I flew my Flip 3D with standard JR servos on the tail. I tought it was ok. After my heli crashed I have a few Hi torque Digitals laying around. Fit it to my Flip and it really becomes a better flying plane than before. More responsive and better knife edge flight.
IMHO any brand digital servo would be better than a similiarly rated non digital. If you could afford it, go for it.

Im attracted to hitecs digitals cause of their price, futabas same sized/torque servos are 3 times more money.. but i quess they are more reliable.
i dont know JR prices yet, but i think they are in same category as futaba.
if i use 2 digital servos for elevator, each for one half, do i need to use some programmer to configure them?

ilmailija,
Go to the "radio/servo" Forum and read about Hitec servos. I use all hitec digitals in the 56 and 59 series radios on three planes and have not had a problem. However, there have been complaint from some people about their quality. Hitec, themselves says on there somewhere that the 54 series digitals are for sport flying only, not aerobatic planes. The rationale beats the heck out of me. because they even knock their own 56 series a little. Their web site doesn't say this. but their response to peoples complaints about the 56/54 series is that this are not high performance servos. go figure.

how does sport flying differences from aerobatic flying? these digitals can torque around 5kg, and dont the digitals have better holding power than standards?
i mean what could be the downsides of these servos on 3d plane?

Read this thread and several others on the radio forum and then make up your own mind. The biggest complaint with Hitec seems to be failure rate. I use them and takes my chances. I have had numerous problems with the 600 series servos and none with their digitals, yet.

My Feedback: (21)
Most people don't know the difference between .23 and .16 or .13... I would say that they are fine for the fun fly. It's a fairly slow servo, but if won't make a huge difference at all unless you plan on competing with it.. Thats just my opinion
I also happen to own Hitec 5645s and Hitec 5945 digital servos. I have thouroughly bench tested and used them with great results. A lot of people talk smack on them, even though they themselves have never owned them. The only way YOU can know if something is of poor quality is to try it yourself. There is also a warrenty just in case you happen to have a bad experience.
