Well the maiden went very well! 2 clicks down and 1 click left had it flying great. What an incredible flying plane! It's my new favorite. The DLE 55 ran good. A little fat on the low speed but still good. Pulls it around with little effort. This plane is going to get a lot of air time.

Default RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?

I used the stock control horns on the flying surfaces.
On the servo I have aluminum arms with Dubro 4-40 ball links at the servo end and Dubro locking clevices at the at the control horn.
Oh and I guess I used hangar 9 Ti links instead of the 4-40 rod on the ailerons, only because I had them laying around.
On the elevators and rudder I used carbon rod and large couplers.
I am planning to upgrade the rudder control horn to aluminum with a ball link this week. The Dubro locking connector with power of the DL55 makes me nervous....
Mine looks like this

Bdegan, I must've missed it in the last couple of pages; what Graphtech gear are you going to use? post some pics when you get them on. I had the Graphtech set for the 58" Reactor, and loved the way they looked!

My Bad
I had it posted in another Giant Reactor thread on another site.

This is the gear......
#218 Wild Hare 88" Edge 540 ARF Main Landing Gear
http://www.graphtechrcshop.com/produ...&categoryId=15

It is the closest in size I could find to the Giant Reactor Dimensions.
2 major differences. It is not swept, its a straight gear.
And It is just over a full inch taller than the stock gear.

I plan to do some light surgery and mount it under the plywood plate in one piece instead of above in 2 pieces as it is now. That will add another 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in height.

I love this plane more with every flight. So far the stock gear are holding up. Our runway is pavement so that is probably why. Converted my Futaba 9c to 2.4 with the FrSky module. This allowed me to move both 2100 LiFe packs to the rear radio area and share one battery with the ignition. I just ordered 4 more receivers to convert other planes. Still need a little more weight shifted to the rear. It pulls to the canopy on knife edge. Can't wait to fly it again!

Team, I'd dumb thumbed my Reactor the other day prop hanging, done it many time just flat out messed up, because I really couldn't afford another and already had something on the bench I have parts for anyone interested? Both main wings and all of the tail section are good.

Been flying mine for well over a year now. I really enjoy this bird. When the wind is blowing hard I pull out the Reactor since its so comfortable to fly. My firewall is beginning to have stress cracks in it. Looks like its time to pull the motor and add some lamination to the firewall. Probably have about 60 flights on the Reactor. Getting rid of that soft low clearance gear was the best thing I ever did. Jerry.

I'm new here, sort of. I've been following you guys for a while now but wanted to wait until I had some stick time on this new SWEET bird! I put a OS 91 FX in the nose and was a little concerned that I over-powered it, but its great! I agree with the earlier posts. This is the sweetest flying plane I have EVER owned! But I already boo-boo'd the landing gear bad.. This evening, I was practicing that slow sinking controllable flight it does SO well, and flew it all the way to the ground in that stalled sink. Because this bird is SO controllable at slow speeds, I had landed this way several times before, but this time she hit the runway a little hard. Anyway, I too have my new FAVORITE plane, and as hard as the wind blows out here at the ranch (my own runway), all the wind means now is a fun challenge! Any advice on new landing gear hard-points inside? Not much to hook to in there at all now... tnx..

Yup she's a bit of an odd duck, but man can it fly. I am grinning ear to ear every time I take mine out flying. This was the first plane I was able to do a KE loop with.

This is a sweet plane. I loved mine, but I gave it to a friend because I have too many planes....Now I miss it.
It is very fun to fly and is a great 3D plane.
Thanks
Barry

Well mine is complete. I just had a three day, no one home, do nothing but build streak. I re-enforced the stab mount and the gear mount during the build. Put a light mist of aluminum paint on the inside of the canopy. I also built a battery tray to fit inside the rear fuselage after hearing about everyone having to add a few ounces to the tail.

DLE55
J-Tec TF wrap around
Forgues 3.25'' aluminum standoffs
Hitec 5645's (645 on ttl)
Futaba 10C 2.4
42% optical kill
42% 5200mah LiIon
ThunderboltRC regulator
Futaba matchbox
Ashlok connecters on Ailerons
Secraft aluminum servo arms
Ball links throughout
TruTurn ultimate spinner
Aeroworks wheels

Weight came in at 17lbs even. I had to add .75 oz to the tail to balance on the wing tube just a hair tail down. I put epoxied the lead to the bottom side of the stab inside the fuselage. Access was through the opening for the rudder servo. Only a 10 minute job.

What jtech muffler did you use? the compact version? Did the firewall need modified?

On the JTech site, they have one listed specifically for this plane along with the P-51 muffler

http://www.jtecrc.com/topflitep51wraparound.htm

Its the 5th one on the list

Cool, thanks for the reply. I have a reactor with a slimline pitts and had to cut a notch out of the cowl. My dad is building one now too, and was wondering what the best solution is. Seems like the jtec p51. Thanks!

Yes mine is the compact one made for the TF P51 and the Reactor. It fits perfect and no cutting of the firewall was required.

BTW Merry Christmas Brad.

Barry Cazier, every one needs to have a friend like you.

On other thoughts, will this airplane fly ok with a glow say 140 or 160. It does on the sim

Yes, and quite well to. Not a 3D machine on glow. I flew it first with an OS160fx. For sport and IMAC type flying. It worked great.
It could actually hover. But it was pretty close to full throttle to do it.
Here is a video of my son flying the plane on its second flight.

Hi there Barry, Haven't been on here for a while but I've been flying mine with an OS 1.60 and it handles it just fine. If your going to 3D with it , I find the 1.60 lacking a little for pulling straight up out of a hover. I'm not that experienced as a 3D guy. Might just be me. I had a moki 2.10 in it and it would really scream. The only problem was starting the moki inverted. I'm considering putting the moki back in at an angle or possibly even a side mount because it is one haulin motor.
