Hey tomcraig,
where did you get those nice metallic Extra 260 stickers on your plane? The picture of the Extra 260 on Aeroworks web site does not show those stickers on it? I really think they look nice and if Aeroworks does not include them they should![sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Well I'm really glad to hear that at least he was decent about it. I've seen a lot of people crash planes and then blame the crash on set-up and show absolutely no remorse. It pisses me off to admit that people like the guy at your field are becoming less and less common. Due to that, I assumed he was a jerk about it...and would like to apologize.
I guess I'll change my original statement to, "That sucks. I hate to hear it!!" I'm glad to hear you found that deal on the Edge. I hope that works out for you. It'll be interesting to hear what you have to say comparing two planes. I just wish you could get an Extra, too....and compare all three of the little Aeroworks Planes.

The .61 would fly it but I don't think you would be happy with it. I had the .91 on mine and even running a little fat it was still a rocket. My vote is for the 91

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
you know...... i have a ys 110fz sitting here......
Anyway.... I agree with YFZ... the 61 isn't going to have enough muscle to 3-d this plane.. if you want a respopnsive sport flyer, then it would be perfect, but seems like a waste of a 3-d capable plane.
I'm going to Toledo in the begining of march, aeroworks is gonna be there... hope to come back with one... dunno which model yet but i'm leanin towards the yak with my .91fx in it, if only because the big cowl on the yak will allow for better cooling of the motor!

My Saito 100 fits so nicely in the Extra that I'm not worried about heat issues with my motor. I've mounted it inverted and it sticks out of the cowling enough for me to not worry about cooling issues, but I don't think it looks bad because of how low the engine sits. I think it's a pretty clean-looking setup.

Wow! Thats alot of motor. I had unlimited vertical with my 91fxin my Yak. But I can't say that I would't try it if I had one laying around.

If I had a 1.20 2-stroke (1.20AX especially), I'd get the bigger series...either the Aeroworks 90-120 or the QQ 68" Yak. That much power opens up a whole new CLASS of aircraft (70" or 26cc gas planes). That might actually be too much power, but good luck with it! Hopefully your motor runs better than mine!

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
Hello all,
Is everyone using those dang cotter pins to hold the wings on?
I have may Extra-260 about finished, and put the wings on to check the balance, but it sure seems like it will be a pain to put those cotter pins in out in the field every time.
Are the wings going to fall off without them? I don't have a large enough vehicle to keep the wings on all of the time.
BTW, my plane seems to balance without any added weight. I'm using an O. S. 75-AX and one elevator servo.
Thanks,
Phil S.

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
I have a question for you guys that fly the big stuff . I recently 86'ed a HS-965mg I had on my pull-pull rudder on a Aeroworks Edge540t . It was getting interference from my digital futaba S9252's . I bought one more 9252 to put on the rudder . Problem solved . Now when I installed the linkages on the elevator surface and ailerons The metal clevises had a little slack on the control rod threads and when I would go to full deflection(3d) and let off the stick the control surface would ossilate or vibrate . Once I tightened the threads on the clevises it eliminated this problem . On my new rudder servo if I don't have some good tension on the wire going back to the rudder it will get ossilation or vibration. The tighter the wire the less it does this . Is this normal , due to the large control surfaces , digital servos , or a combination between the two or something else ? I have a r149 PCM Rx , 4 9252 futaba's , one HS-225 on throttle . I know from the little experience I have on pull-pull you don't want the wires tight . The only other plane I have ever put a pull-pull set up on is the EF Yak54e .
Thanks for any advise .

If the wires aren't tight, then it'll allow the rudder to "wiggle" between making one pull-pull rudder tight and then the other. Obviously such a big control surface is going to accentuate even the smallest of variations. I'd make mine as tight as you can get them....tight's not going to have any adverse effects.
Well, I maidened my plane yesterday! I worked on the engine just about the whole day today, and at about 5:45 the wind was low enough, my engine was running well enough, and I was feeling good. I added power and took off. That plane is QUICK! It's clean, solid, and stable. I did several rolls, a couple loops, and three or four snaps. I then finally landed and my knees stopped shaking. That plane's roll rate is incredible! Even with the balance way forward, it rolled extremely axially and hovered fairly well. The plane had quite a bit of power, and it's running sloppy rich with a terrible prop (old dinged up MA 14x6). I'm DYING to get more experience with the plane!!

Too much engine??? NEVER!!
Seriously, though....you're going to have to modify the motor box to fit the engine in the plane with the cowling on it. The YS110 is just too long. I had to take one screw out of the carb for my Saito 100 to fit!

Hey guys,
Quick question, what do you think will be the performance of a saito 91 on there? Will I be able to get unlimited vertical or would it be lacking?
Thanks

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
I definitely think that your Saito 91 will work VERY well! It's just marginally less power than a Saito 100, and I get ridiculous amounts of power. I'm absolutely sure that a well-running Saito 91 will produce more power than my sloppy rich Saito 100 did, and even it was FULL of power!

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
Hey folks...nice planes!
How would an OS .61FX be for that Extra? Would I get decent vertical out of it?
I noticed this was the motor tested with the
model, but in the pics with the 2s setup,
the prop looks way too small for the airplane!
I live in FL so density altitude isn't an issue and if
you know me at all you know that I have been trying
for a couple of years to find an aerobatic home
for this motor. Not looking to 3D.

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
I don't know how good of vertical performance you'll get off this engine. You're going to have to give me some tach readings along with the prop for me to give you thrust figures. I really don't think that the 61FX will give you good vertical, but some for sure. You might have to seal your hinge gaps and carry speed into your vertical lines. I think for simple sport/IMAC flying it'll be good enough....but you WILL want to look into prettier-sized engines eventually. This plane just flies THAT well!

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
I just flew my Extra again today. Wow is that thing fun to fly! I think that tomorrow I'm going to go ahead and see where I can move the battery pack to start shifting the CG backwards. Any hints on how far back to go?

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
Thanks Victor...kinda what I expected. I got a similar answer when I inquired about the AW Edge with the same motor.
These new models seem to be more updated designs than the Edge so I will be looking strongly at the Extra and
then upgrading motor later.

Hi Victor, iĀ“m looking for the aw extra 260.
IĀ“m thinking to use the saito 100 or 115.
Can you tell me what your setup?
what do you think will be the performance (want to fly 3d) of a saito 100?
Can you send some pictures from your extra?
thanks
Thiago
