Hey guys, I was at the lhs flyin last night, and he had one. I was so tempted to get it considering my Saito 72, but I thought I'd go home and pray about it first. Boy did it look nice. When I go out on Sat., if it's still there, I'm gettin her. Incidentaly(SP?) I crashed my #1 plane when I was out there too. Jordan

Yeah I think I will go with the YS....It will be a good combination for this plane (I think)....Thanks for the offer but I'm not sure I will get it built that quick...I'm kinda slow and I just like to have somthing to whine about.

It is the only U Can Do .46 around here anyway for now. I've had my name on it for awhile.

I don't know anything about 4 strokers or YS so I may be giving you a call when it comes time to get this thing going.

I hope this plane preforms like its big brother.

Later.....................Ken

LOOKS GOOD, MANUYAL SHOWS OS 70II WHICH IS 20.3 OZ SAME AS THE SAITO 100. WITH THAT 15X4WIDE APC IT WILL BE A GREAT COMBO. I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE SKEPTICAL ABOUT USING THE 100, BUT WITH THE 4 PITCH PROP I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE THAT IT WILL NOT FLY FAST AT ALL, BUT HAVE THE HANGING AND VERTICAL ABLITY THAT IS FANTASTIC. THAT ENGINE AND PROP GIVES APPROX. 11LBS OF STATIC THRUST. THIS WAS CALCULATED ON A TEST STAND ARRANGEMENT BY A LOCAL FLYER. IF THE PLANE COMES OUT AT 5 1/2 POUNDS, THEN 11LBS THRUST IS EXCELLENT FOR 3D FLYING. STAY TUNED!

Unless you have the motor laying around why would you go with the smaller plane?
I mean were talking about $40.00 difference total!

Wondering if this thing will fly 3D manovers on an OS 61 fs 4 stroke. This would be my first 3D plane so I would like to know if this would make a good combo. Thanks

Ha!, for anyone with the patience to wait until July 1, the Tower 2003 catalog has a $15 off coupon for any order over $150.....so apply that to the UCD.40 price and see how cheap it can be!!
(of course you will order some other "stuff" to make sure it's at least $150!!!) ..............

WooHoo! I received mine a few hours ago.

Everything arrived safe and its very nice. I sure like the fact that you don't have to glue the wing halves together, no ugly arf seem in the middle of the wing on this one.

I knew the control surfaces for the tail would be fairly big, but I guess I didn't realize the ailerons where as big as they are. They are huge in my opinion. This looks like fun

On the flip side, I don't mind joining wing halves. At least I know what type of spar is used and most importantly,... I know how much glue (epoxy) is holding the spar in the wing halves! Call me worried.

I'm just starting to build mine today for a review in the RCU Magazine. Haven't got to the motor mount but if it is like its big brother it would not be unusual for the tank to be much higher than the carb when you mount your motor inverted.

I have it narrowed down to OS 52FS, OS 70FS and YS 63 or Saito 80.

Two schools of thought on this one...go with the smaller lighter motor and some high torque minis to keep the weight down..I can probably save around 10 ounces with the OS 52FS and mini servos. If I go larger I add weight but more power.

I think it would be overkill but that is probably preference. I have an OS 90FS in my big ucando and it is fine and pulls out of a hover. Doesn't rocket out of it but still has unlimited vertical

On the smaller one I'm not going to use over an OS 70FS. I think even my Saito 80 is overkill. YS 63 is probably a great choice but hard to find one available. This plane should come in between 5-5.5 lbs.

GasRookie,

You may have already tried this, but here it goes. You want to mount the engine inverted, but the carb is too low. Put the engine on the other side of the engine mount. In other words, place the engine mount on the firewall inverted, but bolt the engine to the bottom (the side now facing up) of the engine mount. That should raise the carb the thickness of the motor mount rails.

Hope that makes some since,

Bryan

REQUIRES: Engine:

.32 -.50 (5-8 cc) (2-stroke) OR .52 -.70 (8-11cc) (4-stroke).

I would think if you want to put a 90 in a UCD get the big one.

But the small one would be fine with a 70 4 stroke.

Everything assembled and ready to fly with saito 100:6lbs even.
It is heavier than advertised becuase I upgraded alot of the equipment: 4-40 rods, ball links on all horns, digital servos, sullivan tail wheel assembly, 1650 Ma battery, heavier duty horns, aluim. sprinner, heavy apc 15x4wide prop, big heavy duty switch, reniforced stab, ect.

Hope to get Saturday an fly it.

This will alter the thrust line.

The UCD 60 hovers perfectly with the 91 FX... why would people want to put that in a 40 size planes... Honestly, you'll still be manly with a 70...... Don't be affraid to put a 70 in a 40 plane... Damn people...

If you mount the engine to the top of the rails(with engine inverted) does this change how the shaft for the prop comes out of the cowling?
