In a 25% 3d plane? I tried some 225mg s and they were a joke. I could easily push them down with my hand. I don't know how they rated the torque on those. I'm hoping maybe the 5245mgs hold up to their specs and together that should be 140oz which should be more than enough
thanks!

Why are you using mini servo's on a 25 percent plane?? I suggest using hs-5485's on a quarter scale plane. They are full size, 90 oz each and they can be had for 25 bucks a piece. They are a good cheap servo, of course better can be had for more money but this is a good cheap option.

Well, becuase I want dual elevator (not single), BUT, there's no reason to have 4 oz of weight in the tail if I don't have to. If I can use 2 servos equaling 2oz total, and total torque and speed is still 120 then why not??
I personally do not think a single 5485hb would be enough, 2 would weigh over 3 oz, and they are .20 sec (much slower). they are also not metal geared. So 2 of the 5245mgs seem to be superior in everyway except price

I just do not think 2 of those mini's is going to have enough torque, I have never heard of using minis on a quarter scale plane. 2 oz in the big scheme of things isn't a big deal. And the 5245's are rated marginally higher than the 225's so if Hitec's rating system is consistent it will not make a huge difference. I'd still use 2 full size servos

I appreciate the info guys. Sounds like using them may be questionable. Metalica, what circumstances was it that they failed? What sized plane and what surface was it on? did you get the plane down?
At 6v they should be about 76oz which would be 150oz together. that should be plenty of torque for a 1/4 scale plane, no? (assumign it's an accurate measure)

my first 225mg falure was in the rudder of a Spot-On 50(6v battery pack)
the next failures happened a few days from each other and both were brand new servos ...i was using a 225mg as the choke servo, and the 5245 failed as the throttle servo .... all failures occurred with in days of each other, and the receiver was regulated to to 6.1 volts
if you have the money to spend JR makes some really nice precision mini servos....or if you are on a budget and want good digitals with enough power for a 1/4 scale 3d...i recommend the hitec 5625mg
here is a quick search i did on the 5245s you will find that the 225mgs and the 5245ms are indeed problematic servos http://search.rcuniverse.com/search....archwhere=both

I use em on a Phoenix Extra 330 -60 with a Saito 100 for elevators without issue. Would never consider using them on a 1/4 scale though, especially if gas/fuel powered.

I too have had good wear from the 225mg’s.
I’ve had them in the tail of a Fliton Extra (60inch) 200+ flights with no problem,OK the gears are a bit sloppy now, but so is the rest of the plane.

I've had reasonably good luck with 5245s on 40-size planes. I had one failure on the rudder of a 4.5 pound 3D bird, but I tend to be a little rough on rudder servos.
Personally, I wouldn't use them on anything that weighs more than 4 or 5 pounds.
Just my two rubles......
