RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
would like to hear from the guys that have or are planning to use a fourstroke in this plane. Im plannning on using a magnum .30 fourstroke (the new one) spins a 10x4 apc with great athourity
|
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I didn't experimented the four stroke in that bird, but my opinion is that I don't think it's a good idea. I believe the fragile airframe hot glued in china won't apreciate the vibrations inherent to four strokes
this is my opinion only |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I didn't realize they hot glued these things. Is that really the glue they use?
|
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
Most of ARF are glued with hot glue guns except in some strategic aera like firewalls anf gear mounting plates. The only conventional glued ARF are very hig quality ones not intended for massive release (like znline ones and so on)
|
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I realize most ARF's are glued but NO WAY on this one, NO WHERE anywhere is a bead showing, I dont know what they used, but I tell you one thing, nothing about this planes says .25 2 cycle. The wood is extremely light, IMHO the planking in rear that supports servos is easily distorted. If your trying to improve thrust to weight your better off removing weight. other than the tail surfaces and ailerons 98% of this plane is 1/16" . Well the firewall is maybe 3/32" and some toothpick engine bearers. GOOD LUCK...........
What rpm's do you expect a four stroke to turn? The engineering done by the manufacture of this thing is innovate and unique, it was not just an average exsercise. It really amazes me that so many think they blew it. My model has 9oz trimmed to accomadate the added weight of a .25 over the designed .15 and when I pick it up by pinching the canopy area or by grabbing the wing planking it does not crush or crack. I really believe it just may be light enough to bounce on a minor impact, even an engine out Torque or hover at 5' will probably recover with no harm. Forgive me for being so forward but nothing about this plane says .25........ |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
FYI
I had 81's all around and with 60 degrees on the elevator and all I can get on the rudder they blow back at high speed. Definately noticable when entering a KE loop at half throttle. I had the gears on one 81 (nylon) let go during a full power vertical climb when I added full aileron to see how fast it would roll [:o] Definately my fault. Landed fine. With the .25LA I'd definately go with the 85MG or stronger. I put 225mg on the elevator and rudder because I already had them. Lots of cutting but works great. Just be careful if you're flying with the 81's nylon or 55's. This plane is so much fun it's easy to get caught up in the moment. |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I run HS85MG as a standard sport plane servo now, I have never had a HS85mg fail. I have over 25 of them, I have one on each flap in a turbine model ( they are onl 4" wide). I would have no reservations that they would hold up to this plane with any configuration. the only reason I did not put them on mine is they weigh to much. .98oz.

RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I finished mine, 95% stock. the 5 procent are the soft balsa hatch. 5HS81, os .15CVA, all provided hardware and a 280Mah battery pack
it turn out 920GR [:o] unfortunatly I didn't weighted the airframe before building |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
Salmon,
Thats only 211grams more than mine.....;) My airframe with hinged surfaces and no gear weighed 360 grams, the diff comes into add ons beyond frame....... See my other thread on a 25oz RTF mini3D |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
Make sure you use 30% heli fuel w/ that .15. You'll find that 10/15% is underpowered.
|
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
211 Gr difference !!!!! how the hell is that possible?
that's enormous ! |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I've tried 10%, 15%, 30% with zinger 9x4 and apc 9x4 on the OS .15 CVA w/ Hitec 81s (later changed to MG 85s b/ I broke the gears on one 81)
The 10% .15 CVA 9x4 setup would just hover the plane - almost no pull out power. I went to the 30% and it hovers around 65% and will pull out, but not rocket like. I still love the plane. It's rock solid and does everything I need it to. |

Wanted to show everyone the wing structure. I hope you haven't had the need to see it but due to my clumsiness, I did. Wouldn't you know the wingspan is about 1/2" longer than the distance between our refrigerator and kitchen cabinets? I smashed up the wing tip a little and broke a rib... I didn't want to fly it this way, so I opened her up and repaired it. Below are just some shots of the structure so you know whats in there.
Debated whether to cover the entire bottom blue where there was yellow, but opted to stick with the yellow. I had rolls of Ultracote which matched exactly. I believe they were Bright Yellow and Midnight Blue - I can verify those soon. As you can see, it looks like new! Can't wait to fly her with an OS 25LA. |

RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
I just got one and it looks pretty cool.
I am really debating what engine to put on this little guy. I have a Norvel AME 15, OS MAX 15 and TT 25GP. The TT is only 9 oz. with muffler, but I really wonder if it is more powerful than the Norvel? I want the lightest, most powerful engine that will hover this plane and do not have a lot of experience in this engine size range?? In the 15-21 size range, who make the lightest engines? Also the best power? Jim! |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
Knowing what I know now, I'd do the .25FX. I know a lot of people are running the .25LA, but the video I saw with the FX was very strong.
The .15 CVA is good and will do everything you see it the EF video, but it's not a rocket out of the hover. |

RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
Thanks for the input. The TT is broken in and Norvel is NIB and if I am not going to use it on this plane, I will probably sell it to make up for whatever I buy. I don't have to rocket out of a hover, but I do want enough power to get myself out of trouble close to the ground.
I have a Magic fun fly that I did a RCU review on and I am using a TT Pro 36 on it. The engine will hover the plane easily and pull out of a hover with no problem, but it will not save me if I do a waterfall close to the ground and goof up, (don't ask me how I know). A 46 would have saved me some repair. I still have the TT on the plane though since it keeps the thing VERY light and I like that type of flying, rather than ground to 1000' in 0.47 seconds, (so to speak). You're right though, I should probably fly it with the TT as my choice would be to lean towards more power reather than less. I just winder how much more powerful the TT 25 GP is than the Norvel AME 15? going vert: What video are you talking about?? thanks guys. Jim! |
RE: RE: RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
Here is the EF video w/ the .15 CVA http://www.extremeflightrc.com/product_html/Mini3D.htm
The other one is on www.mw3d.com. You have to register (for free) and find it under the extreme flight videos - it's the one entitled "Mini 3D in the dark" |

Mark:
What does your 25FX weigh with the muffler? Jim! |

I think I am going to go that route and put my Norvel up for sale since it is NIB and I can still get a decient price for it that way.

RE: Mini 3D from Extreme Flight anyone get it yet ?
My buddy and I flew the mini 3d all weekend, this plane is a blast. Had a 25 la on it for the first two flights but could never get the needle set on this motor. I took a old o.s. 25 FP control line motor I had lying around and modified it. I pulled the carb off of an ops 15 race engine, bored the throat of the 25 FP out and mounted the race carb on it. It is unbelievable the power this little motor is putting out. It jumps out of a hover like you wouldn't believe and the throttle response it incredible. I would recommend anyone wanting better performance out of their 25 FP or la try mounting a larger carb on the motor. The barrel on the 15 race carb was quite a bit larger than the 25 la carb and it had a low end adjustment. We flew this plane till 3am Saturday night at a lighted soccer field/park and the only reason we stopped was because we were out of fuel.
