Here's a pic of the bottom. Changing the wheels sounds like a good idea, I may do this also when I make it back to the LHS.

Give us a full report on the perfomance tonight noxam.

It's a little windy here, but I am going to try and sneak a flight in if possible. Just can't wait to see if it flies as good as it looks or better than it looks!

LHS got one today, looks good. After a couple heads up from this thread, the first thing I did was shake the wing. Little pieces shaking around. Traced it to the third rib in, on the left side. Delays, delays. Joe

RE: The twist is here!

OK! Heres the deal. Took the plane out for the maiden voyage tonight, flies awesome. I am having serious problems with the OS 46FX and it took almost 1/2 hour to get running[:@]. It is very windy(20mph+) here but the plane handles the wind ok - didn't get pushed around to bad. Take off in about 5-6 ft in to the wind - only needed a3 clicks down elevator and 1 click left aileron and it was all trimmed out for tonight anyways. My OS 46 is not running good at all and I had to dead stick it the first time in. With the good wind we had, the plane almost flew backwards until I gave a lot of down elevator and got it on the ground A-OK. Here is the deal with the OS. It didn't or would not start tonight. Changed plugs and still no go. Finally got to the mixture screw and reset it to factory and then it started. Then it stalled. I fiddled with the mixture screw again and with more mixture screw adjustment it ran. Then I did the high end and all seemed fine. I ran it on the ground for 3-4 minutes to make sure it was ok, advancing and chopping the throttle and then I took off. I got about 5 minutes of flight before it sputtered and shut off. In flight I did loops, rools, and straight up vertical out of sight and no problems. It cut out at half throttle in a banked turn. I went from low to high throttle several times in the 5 minutes with no issues. I checked the fuel when I got down and I had at least a half of a tank left, so that wasn't the issue. Any help would be great. Other than the motor problems, the plane is great - at least for the 5 minutes I had!!!! I never even got off the dual rates and it was highly responsive! Thats my report!:D

I am glad to see you have brought your new plane in good shape with all these problems...
What is the 'Twist' weight with the OS46FX?

I flew my super sporster today with the Os46FX and the Tower muffler, it hovers at 1/2 throtle with APC 12.25,x3.73 at 12000RPM. That small engine is very strong with the hobbico muffler. Amazing![8D]

RE: The twist is here!

Ok guys, also had the wing bolt act as if it would not tighten. My wing ribs are fine, when I picked up the main wheels from the box I threw them over in the corner, knowing that they would be way to heavy for this plane. Got to the lhs before they closed tonight and picked up some DU-BRO #250SL Super lite Wheels, total weight including packaging .9 oz for both. The wheels that came with the plane weight 2.4oz! WOW. LHS didn't have the 2-3/4" DU-BRO's but I would assume the part # to be 275SL. I was considering a .60 powerplant but after measuring things have decided to go with the OS .50 SX. Thinking about a APC 11X5 prop. Any sugestions? Hey "NOXAM" what prop are you using on your .46? If I could stay off this thread for the rest of the night, I might have the plane ready to fly WED.

RE: The twist is here!

I do not have a scale to measure the weight so I can't help on that one. I am using a APC 12.25 X 3.75. Works good!

Just ordered one today. Southeast rc in stock!!!! Just a couple quick questions. What is everyone using for servos on this plane? Saito 65 or OS 46fx have one of each laying around. My other planes are all 120 size been awhile since I flown a 40 size plane. But it sure looks like a fun plane couldn't resist. Thanks for any advice.

NOXAM, thanks for the prop info. Pbird standard servo should work fine. I have found the Expert servos hard to beat, the #SL571 has 62oz/in of torque that should be plenty for all surfaces and their ball bearing servos for around $17-$18

I put Hitec 425BB all around in mine. Mainly because I had them sitting there, and know they will easily handle this plane.

Hi Guys Just picked one of these twists up and opened the box at the hobby shop to look at it and the next thing you know my little brother breaks the wing and some of the fuse.[:@][:@]
The owner said I had to buy it because if you break it you buy it!! Anyways this stinks now I have a plane that I bought which is broken enough to be thrown away:( (trust me it is unfixable [:o]

Redneck phrase:

Duck Tape can fix everything, and ducks!!!!!!!!:D

Hi guys I finally sold that busted up plane to an older man at our club, he told me he's going to use the covering for another project!?????[&:] Anyways got a newer plane but my little brother again set fire to the manual when we were grilling outside![:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]! Anybody got a link to the manual I need it very badly I got all the parts for it but need a manual!!:D

Maybe you should set your little brother on fire.

Bet you could lure him in with a little bait.

RE: The twist is here!

I just got mine finished. I only had two problems with the kit. I had to trim a little off the back of the wing to get it to fit the fuse. The thing that bothers me is that the aileron pushrods are too short. The clevis only starts threading on when the pushrod is halfway into it. I could get it to work but it is only held by a couple of threads. It looks like it is screwed halfway into the clevis but actually only a couple of threads are holding it if that makes any sense. Overall it is a very good kit though.

O.S. Master,

You need to use some of that duck tape on your brother![&:]

anyone have an AUW yet? I'd buy one for a beat around plane IF it's under 5.5lb or under... anything over 5.5lb makes my spare 52xls to small for my taste.

hey kev_79, I've gotta know, is that a beer bong in that 2nd pic of yours there??

RE: The twist is here!

Assembled one for a friend of mine. Everything fit perfectly except the throttle rod was an inch too short. The engine used was a Super Tigre .49. Luckily I had some spare rods to be able to finish it for him. He plans on flying it this weekend. I will report back on its flight performance.

RE: The twist is here!

heh, I made that bong one night at auto zone :D I don't claim it anymore since I've been out of college, but my roommate is still putting it to use!

I have discovered the fatal rib break in my wing also. I called horizon and they're sending me a new one. I'm going to go ahead and fly it, and hope it doesn't break :) My Ultra Stick came with this same ailement, band I flew it many flights until I ran it into a soccer goal. It doesn't seem weak...(famous last words).

I did have some issues with the rods also. I would prefer they give me a little extra length...I have cutters. I also had to scavenge a throttle rod, it was at least an inch too short.

I'm running a .46fx, I had to add about 4+ ounces to the nose, even having the battery under the tank. That was to get the cg around 4". I'm starting there and will most likely go back later.

OS master, next time leave your brother in the car...preferrably with the windows up on a hot sunny day! It would be cheaper.

One of the guys at my club brought his out today for its maiden. Seems to fly well, extremely responsive. Not as floaty as I thought it might be. He does have a Magnum .91 4-stroke in it though.

rc-mike 04-14-2004 06:27 AM

RE: The twist is here!

I used a 4 stroke but I bet if I had used a 2 stroke the throttle arm would have been too short.

noxam 04-14-2004 01:10 PM

RE: The twist is here!

I too had to trim the fuse for the wing to fit in and my throttle push rod was also short.
