RE: The twist is here!

I went to lowe's and bought a 1/4 x 20 nylon bolt to fix my wing bolt problem. I guess the bolt that came with it just didn't match the blind nut. I'm going to maiden mine today, I'll give a report tonight.

rc-mike, what 4 stroke are you using?

fiveoboy, how did the guy get the magnum squeezed into the motor mounts?

An old dependable O.S. 70. I hope to be able to fly it this weekend. It balanced perfectly with the battery in the very back of the wing saddle, behind the throttle servo. My 70 barely fit. I can't imagine a 91.

I also bought the Twist 40 and could here some balsa shaking around in the wing. I shook out the pieces, most of them seemed to be left over from the lazer cut outs. Only one piece was in a broken form. All of the ribs seem to be stable. What should I do? I really want to fly it this weekend. Any Ideas

X ray vision would help. Comes down to one thing, do you feel lucky today?

RE: The twist is here!

I flew mine tonight. Tracks well, very responsive, slows down nicely. A lot like the Sig somethin extra. with bigger control surfaces. I didn't get to wring it out yet, my buddy Seth had his U-Can-Do 3D, and we spent a lot of time trying to get it running.

The only gripe I have thus far, besides the loose balsa in the wing, is that the wing doesn't seem to fit really tightly. It moves a very little bit if you lift on the wing tip. Anybody else have this problem?

Funsterdan, I guess you can say I feel lucky, cause I'll fly mine with a broken rib. I had this issue on my ultra stick, and had not problems. I don't worry about just normal flying, but I don't think I'd fly it as hard as I could until my new wing comes in.

rc-mike, I bet that 70 will be perfect for this plane...12x6 or 13x5 prop?

13X6 right now. It was the only prop I had that was about the right size.

Hey guys !

Couple of quick questions . . .

I am trying to decide between this plane (TWIST) and a modeltech magic extra 300l . . .

I like the looks fo this plane, I like hangar 9's reputation and quality- but I'm a little nervous by the large number (of the ones who have posted here at RCU) of people who have purchased this plane and had cracked spars- ill fitting wing bolts or wings etc--- Can I hear from the others that have had no real issues or is this a plane to kinda have second thoughts on ?!>!>

Just bought the twist today. I did not have any problems with the wing bolt threading. The wing fits perfectly into the fuselage. I am concerned a little bit about how sturdy the dowel is that slips into the fuse on the front of the wing. I might beef it up a little. My wing was undamaged and seems intact. Have not flown yet but can't wait to and will let you guys know how it files. Overall the plane seems very sturdy. I am missing the little set screws for the collars that slip onto the wheel axle shafts. But no big deal. Assembly is quick and easy. Would reccomend from everything I have seen so far. This is my first ARF and was leary about them. But this thing seems great. Buy one if you can find one!

Got mine in on thursday, everything in the box looked great, no busted ribs and everything fit just as it should. put it together last sunday in about 3 hours and flew it twice that same afternoon.Using the Saito 72 for power with a 13x6 apc. The plane seems to fly very nicely, even in the 10 to 15 mile per hour wind, rolls are very crisp and seemed to hover very well also. All in all I'd say its a definate keeper here!;)

Just got mine this afternoon. I have about 2 hours into it and I'm almost done. Amazing. Very good quality but so have all my H9 kits. I'm using a 46fx with max pipe. A real screemer. I tink I will go with you guys and opt for the lighter wheels. Anyone have any suggestions on a 3d prop.

kev_79, I understand you are waiting for your wing to come in, but you flew it today. I called hanger 9 today, they suggested I sent in the whole plane. What kind of magic are you working?
I also have the nylon bolt that is not getting tight at the end. Feels like it is stripped, only it isn't. Did the 1/4-20 nylon bolt work for you?

RE: The twist is here!

rdracer,

an APC 12x4 or 12.25x3.75 would be a good starting point. I just made the switch over to APC props and although they're less durable(I had two break clean off at the hub with just a rough landing), they're quieter and provide a little more thrust than the Master Airscrew I was using of the same size. Throttle response seems better, and there seems to be less of a delay from the time I snap the throttle open to the time the plane gets moving.

I am still waiting to hear a detailed report on the Twist. I'm debating between it and a UCD .46/60.

I've got a Magnum XLS .46 in the Magic, I assume that the power/weight ratio won't be quite as good(in the Twist) as the Magic?

I'll definitely have to put matching yellow strips across the bottom of the wing for orientation. So far the only dislike I have is that the canopy is an ugly yellow tint, and the area behind the canopy(turtledeck?) has stringers and looks bad, JMO.

My wing was so tight that I had to shave off some balsa to get it to fit and now it snaps in place. I had no broken parts either. My 46fx works great and it pulls straight up like a rocket! I have a muffler mod on it and it peps up the old 46 pretty good.

RE: The twist is here!

I just called horizon and told the guy what the deal was. He looked and said that he did have the wings in stock in a California warehouse. He's shipping me some out and also sending out a call tag so I can ship the other wing back to him. This is exactly what they did when I had this problem with my ultra stick.

The nylon bolt I got from lowe's 1/4x20 worked perfectly. tightened the wing down snug.

Would some of you fellows that are lucky enough to have your "Twist" together tell us about your set up, how much it weighs and how it balances...Mine is still in the box but it will have all Hitech 425BB servos and an OS50SX with a 12.25 X 3.75 prop and possibly either a
Tower or Ultrathrust muffler...

RE: The twist is here!

Hi! I flew again tonight and I love this plane! Low speed passes are a dream and it really doesn't like to land - you need to put it on the ground! Harriers good - would be better it a better pilot was behind the sticks though!;) If my blessed engine problems would go away so I could actually beat on it a little, I would be happier! I have mine balanced at about 4 3/4" back from the LE. I have a flat heli pack under my reciever in the front of the plane. I am using S3003 servos all around and running a finicky OS 46FX with muffler mod. I did not use the stock wheels as I felt they were too heavy; unfortunately I have no scale to give an AUW. I have dual rates set up and thats about it. Running a 12.75 x 3.25 APC prop. My wing was very tight out of the box and wouldn't fit in the fuse so I ahd to trim a little to get it to go. I finally got the stock wing bolt to go in with a little work and cohersion as well. That's about all I can say now as my engine is just giving me a ton of problems right now - I may need to get another one.[:o]

RE: The twist is here!

Thanks for the reply Noxam...Hope you get that finicky engine straightened out soon...It has been a long time since I flew
a small glow powered plane...I have been flying gas now for several years and when I saw the "Twist" at the LHS, I thought it
might be neat to try another glow plane for a change...I already had the OS50, the servos, and all of the other hardware on the
shelf gathering dust...So I figured for $99.00 it might be nice to have a plane I could throw in the back of the Explorer and fly
some after work...

noxam

do you have yours set up with flaperons or spoilerons or both? I just got my flaperons and elevator flap mixing done today, but I haven't had a chance to fly it yet. I may get to fly this weekend, it depends on the weather. This thing slows down well already, I can't wait to see how slow it gets with flaperons.

Kevin

P.S. What's up with your engine[:o]

I have the flaperons mixed in as well as the aileron/elevator mix. Not to up on the spoilerons - what does that do and is it a good thing to do?

Kev, How much does that thing weigh?

RE: The twist is here!

I went ahead and bought one... looks good so far, I'll have an AUW with standard servos and a Mag .52XLS in few hours. BTW my wing is fine as is the wing bolt blind nut... a standard 1/4-20 bolt fit's snug in the blind nut and is much better quality than the nylon bolt in the kit.

Hi Kev:

Looking at your picture of the right side of the plane, my manual says the servo on the right goes to the rudder, but in your picture it appears to be going to the elevator???Did you make a change???Why???

Hi John:

Give us the AUW and how it balanced if you would...
