RE: GP Cap 232
Well, I I got the DA 50 finally in the Cap. Was planning on maidening it in the morning. Took it out in the back yard to run the DA abit. Did a range check without the Da running.....fine. Started the DA up, walked about 60 feet, and then the jittering started. Sometimes it would do it at 60 ft and some times at 100ft. Control surfaces jumping, engine running very jumpy at idle. I could even see the red light on my Smart Fly kill switch blinking on and off. The Da did die a couple of times I was testing. Well, I took it in, took off the cowl and I could see where the plug wire was rubbing agaist the pitts muffler. Do think this would cause my problems? I also moved the reciever back away from the mpi ignition switch as far as possible. Still at only about 8 inches. I checked all the connections, all seemed good. I was wondering if the rubbing on the muffler would be the main problem. I didnt get a chance to run it again, got dark. So, I'll take it to the field with me tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed.

Hello Sewerdude , it is Elvir , I hade the same problems with my cap in Croatia. But I did not get any gitter on the rang check on the ground , I got it in the first 10 seconds of flight and got the plane down some how about 400 feet from me ,and as I walked up to it , I found it in two pieces. I also have the smart fly pro it did not help. I have the Fuji 43 in it , it was no ignition interference , I used my heil 10 sxii radio with a hitec receiver , in my 5 other planes no problems . This is my biggest plane with long servo leads so I think that combination was not to good.. So my friend went to the states and got me a jr 9303 I installed it and no more problems. So same receiver and transmitter and crystal, on long servo lead have the wire braided, and if it still has a problem use a magnet filter.

RE: GP Cap 232
Elvir, so your telling me that you got a new transmitter and your problems went away? I dont think thats the case here. As for the long servo leads. I had a 160 fx in the plane with the same long servo leads and no problems. I'm just not sure if mine is a radio -servo problem or is the problem on the engine electrical side.

RE: GP Cap 232
I'd definetely glue the wing.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Anything is possible , here I cannot get my hands on supplies and parts easily , so I try to get the best that I can the first time and do a lot of experimenting to get it my models working , I have seen here in Europe that who ever has a gas plane the spark wire is shielded . Try that if you do not have it already , and check the spark plug for a cracked isolator , the plug may leak rf , I have seen that with my twin gas boat .

RE: GP Cap 232
You know I was thinking last night and what Cowboy and cublover are doing is really not much different that the Great Planes Gene Soucy Extra 300. I had this extra for a while and it took a bit of abuse and not very far fro mthe way they are doing the Cap.
The only real difference is the Extra had a longer aluminum wing tube... The wing was a two piece which yu slid together over the tube and then two anti-rotation dowels aligned the wing halves, you then slide the wing onto the saddle lining up the front dowels into the fuselage then bolted the whole thing down with two nylon bolts. Then you bolted the belly pan on. So lets think about this for a minute. The Cap's joiner is only a few inches long BUT I'll bet the wing is built up pretty good to the socket. As I mentioned before, they may be onto something but if something goes bad you can bet the warranty would not hold up at all... |
RE: GP Cap 232
They come with a warranty?????:):):):)
|
RE: GP Cap 232
thing is.. it's won't show stress fractures or anything like that. so checking it each time really is pointless. it will just snap one of the times it's flown. fold like a deck of cards. i certainly hope not. but y take the chance. mine will not only be getting epoxied.. but will be getting a little sprinkle of fiberglass in the epoxy prior to stir up! GLUE IT BROTHER!

RE: GP Cap 232
[sm=thumbup.gif] Well good news. I range tested with the motor running today at the field. Walked 150 ft and no jitters Guess the spark plug wire rubbing on the muffler was the problem.......time to maiden! Broke ground at about half throttle, alot sooner than I thought! Went into a steep climb....really fast! I was amazed how much power the DA had on the Cap. You guys were right, this Cap loves gas....as I do now to !:D It does fly alittle different than when I had the 160 on it. But not in a bad way. Still just floats on it, straight and slow. It came in at 14lbs 6 oz, which isnt to bad I guess. I'm hooked on these gas engines now!

I still can't get over Cublover liking this plane more than that Dave Patrick Edge 540 he had. Great Planes must be doing something right. I know I'm loving it. Can't wait for Sunday. Flying in the morning and AIR RACES......WOOOHOOO........after that. (GO TEAM STREGA) I'll find out about video Sunday as well. Hopefully I get some.

RE: GP Cap 232
ORIGINAL: Lou55 I agree with you whole-heartedly but the fact remains (and the reason for presenting the video) that there are extreme pressures exerted upon these wings. This case was the extreme and the construction of the wing was, I believe, an early one, but the point, I feel, is well demonstrated. Trust me, no one would hate to see CowboySaver lose this plane more then me. I understand his problem with transport and have a similar problem but this is NOT a good long term solution in my opinion. [&o][&o][&o][&o] Agreed :) |
RE: GP Cap 232
to cowboy just asking how did you tint the window it llok good i read it in a thread but could not find it.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Elvir, I painted cowboys glass...go to pep boys and get some "dupla-color" black. This IS fuel proof, cheaper than the paint from the hobby store..haha,,,take the glass of the plane and paint the inside,,even coats...."light", till it builds up to a nice black and you cant see through it......
Lou55,,,,,,,,,dont know if Cowboy said anything,,,but if you ever need anything,,,,you let us know...there should be a lot more of us out there like you, and us...nice to see someone in this hobby like us that is such a great guy..come up and fly with us anytime...love to meet ya...Rod ...aka Cublover |
RE: GP Cap 232
Just glad I could help out a little. Skip seems to be a really nice guy, as do you! BTW Great job on the plane!! Canopy looks familiar! LOL:D:D:D:D:D BTW, Skip said the same as you. Thank you both very much! Okay, for those of us still trying to get it right, here's a link to the video I shot at our Air Show yesterday. Talk about feelings of inadequacy, Come fly with these two every week.[&o][&o][&o][&o]

I'm still working on getting the straight and level in the cap just right. Yea, ya like that canopy. Just a lil reminder for myself. PS>>>>>How does this fly in the wind? |
RE: GP Cap 232
:DDang kids! :D
|
RE: GP Cap 232
I'll second that one sewer dude.

RE: GP Cap 232
I see he did not post the video of Kyles little brother...DANG KIDS ;):D
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Now I'd be ashamed to get video on here of my flights.......there a cool picture I posted at this one.............thought I'd share with you all here.

RE: GP Cap 232
Now that's a cool picture!!
I did however send it to you Bubbagates! LOL Would you believe that that is a 30% 50cc plane he's dragging out there??? I'm getting hammered from every side here! LOL Okay, Here's Kyle's 9 year old brother making me look bad. [:@][:@][:@][:@] http://media.putfile.com/Brandon-Woyshnis I know, I'll move to Appalachia and start my own club. I can fly freestyle while the good ole boys sit on the porch in amazement and play duelin banjos!! |
RE: GP Cap 232
Doesn't fly bad in the wind. Here's a video of me flying mine last Saturday. 16 mph winds on the runway with 30 at altitude. Used the spoiler mix to land it.

RE: GP Cap 232
Spoiler mix....now you're talking Greek to me.......lol......I understand the idea, but haven't a clue on the process
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Okay, Have Rod help you with this one. Mix in -20 of up ailerons (airbrakes) with -3 down elevator mix and it will take the lift right out of the wings on final. Mine floated right past me at about 6 feet on several occassions and I finally found this cure. The mix makes the plane very predictable on final and about 80% of the float goes away. It doesn't make it drop, just land managably. You'll love it , especially on windy days.:D:D:D:D:D Be sure to try it out at altitude the first time to make sure it's set right. Bubbagates has a trick he does with this mix. Ask him about it sometime.

RE: GP Cap 232
Thanks for the post Al. I'll have to give that a try.[sm=thumbup.gif] I'll just put it on a extra switch I have on my 9 C.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
I put mine on the gear switch. Makes it easy to get to on approach. You're going to love it. Just watch the last video I posted and keep in mind that the plane is landing in a 16 mph headwind. Sets down gentle as a kitten.
