RE: GP Cap 232
Hey everyone,
Lately I have been getting a lot of PM's from different people all asking basically the same questions so I think what needs to happen is they get addressed again so that everyone does not have to dig back through the thread and try to find them. First and formemost, use the recommended CG point. This planes does not need to be tail heavy to fly 3D well. Use the recommended throws ESPECIALLY the elevator. Almost every story you have ever heard regarding Caps being snappy can be traced back to too much elevator throw at too high a speed, or just plain too much throw at any speed or too tail heavy. Remember, a Cpa's elevator is extremely powerful do to it's location in the tail. A OS160 or a good 50cc is more than enough to 3D this plane. On a 50cc about the biggest prop you can use is a 22 inch unless you add a block under the gear. For servo use all metal gear. Mine has Hitec 5945's all around using titanium rods and Central Hobbies Cf rod kit and stock horns with Dubro Safety-Lok clevises and they have survived countless flights and I'm hard on mine. If using a 50cc engine only one rudder servo is needed in the tail when using the 5945. You can also get away with only gluing in one servo tray, this will help remove about 6 ounces between the wood and glue. If you leave of the pants and no spinner and use a DA50 I'll bet you could get down to 13.5 pounds. Mine is 13.75 using a CF spinner, CF prop and the pants. Now what I am asking is for everyone else that is flying this plane to post your setups regarding hardware, CG and throws. Plese understand that I will always help via any means I can, even in PM's but I found I was answeringf the exact same questions 2 or 3 times a day. Feel free to continue to PM me if needed |
RE: GP Cap 232
You should be able to. Just make them go up instead of down. Just don't forget the down elevator mix or the plane will ballon up. Bubbagates could probably answer that better.

RE: GP Cap 232
thank for the info . i will try this weekend if the weather is better by then.

RE: GP Cap 232
I put my rudder servo in the tail on mine with the OS 160, then again I have a smoke pump, extra battery, and tank in there to offset it. The smoke pump, and smoke pump battery are mounted in the box right behind the firewall. A little nose heavy with a full smoke tank, empty fuel tank and balanced perfectly when the smoke tank is empty. With an empty fuel tank also of course. Thought I'd share.

RE: GP Cap 232
I used the pull-pull on the 160 but moved mine to the tail when I put the gasser in the plane. I really prefer the servos in the tail but neither my WH Edge 540T or SD Models Extra 260 would allow that due to CG issues.

RE: GP Cap 232
Hey guys - I've been flying my CAP now for about a month and I think it's friggen awesome !!
But, I have a flying question I'm hoping I can get some help on to solve. It does really nice inverted flat spins, however, I can't get it to flat spin right-side up. In fact, even regular spins look more like vertical rolls then anything else. Would anyone have any suggestions on how to fix or solve this? What do think is going on here? CG balance seems good to me. Inverted flights takes just a very small amount of down elevator. I'm very happy otherwise. Thanks. =R |
RE: GP Cap 232
Mine does the same thing, and I noticed if I didn't feed in so much elevator it did beautiful upright flats, but max out the sticks and it flops right out. I think the elevators on this plane are no joke!
|
RE: GP Cap 232
mtwister hit it right on the head, since the elevators are so powerful do not use all of it for upright flat spins, same goes for the ailerons.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
the way the wing is designed will do it too. it should do inverted better than upright due to wing design..at least as far as I can tell.

RE: GP Cap 232
Looks great! BTW Do the sheep have the right-of-way on the runway during deadsticks???:):):):)

RE: GP Cap 232
how would the new OS FS200 fly this Cap? I am thinking It should build a little over 12# with a simple glow set up?
|
RE: GP Cap 232
I fly my cap with the 160 at nearly 5000 feet altitude up here in Reno. 200 should be great. Thy have sheep we have cattle.....fun times......:D

RE: GP Cap 232
Cowboylifesaver is in your country. He should be able to advise you well on your setup.

RE: GP Cap 232

Hey don't get me started on Washington Al...........lol.......Well at least those too close to the Colombia River around Portland.............scary[X(]

RE: GP Cap 232
here sheep turning on a open fire is a delicacy , but I prefer a good piece of beef, the cattle here is not the same , I try to explain what is prime rib , but they go back to there barbeque sheep . here my cousin rents the land for his sheep to graze on , it is about 4000m by 1500m and it cost him 4 sheep a year , that is roughly about $400 and to my cousin for the land we use we invite him to our monthly barbeque.

Yeah, I spent some time in that neck of the woods growing up. Not exactly a "fault free area" LOL Some of your best mechanics are judged by how far they can get their arm up a horses butt! LMAO
