Well guys I have to say I am going to stop reading this thread before long as I have grown wearly of my CAP and am moving on to something else. I am selling my GP CAP 232 without motor or radio to anyone willing to purchase it. Look in my ads for pics and details.......Just didn't live up to my desires. It is a true scale flier and I am more into the flip and flop of sport models.
Waross

I agree that is not the same plane we are discussing here. This is a pic of mine and it's defintely a flip-floppy type and does precision pretty darn good as well

and if you want to see what one of these will do with an OS160 have a look at ths

question , is the two wing bolts strong enough to hold the wing on 3D flying?

Al Lewis 10-08-2007 05:30 AM

RE: GP Cap 232

I've never had a problem with mine and don't know of anyone who has. I take it you did epoxy the two wing halves together?

Most certainly, look at the video link I posted a few posts back, whaturi is wringing his out like there's no tomorrow (flying it like he stole it :D) I've done full power, straight and level tumbles, more KE spins at full power than I can remember, and a host of other high "G" work, both positive and negative stuff that no amount of 3D will ever do to this wing and the most I ever did was loosen the plywood that holds the blind nuts for the wing bolts. that is one spot you do want to add a little glue to. I actually cut some balsa blocks that fit over the blind nuts, drilled them out a bit bigger than the wing bolts and glued them between the blind nuts and the former that the wing sits against and it's held up well.

I never get tired of watching him, it's like you watching Kyle and his brother, Always something new. If I only had about half of his skills I'd be dangerous, oh wait, I already am ;)

RE: GP Cap 232

LMAO I sure don't need skills to be dangerous, but you're right, It's great watching anyone with their kind of talent.

RE: GP Cap 232

Thanks for the reply, I did glue them tougher, today was a holiday here so we all got tougher , and I felt even more relaxed today with the cap . I started doing some more tumbles and just flying it around and having fun . and waross said he is plainly bored with his cap , well I switch to duel rate and played around not even the 3d rates yet and it amassing what the plane can do with only my 3 year of flying experience. I wish my connection was faster so i can watch that vid you are talking about bubbagates .

Glad you got to watch it. That's just a small sample of what this plane can really do. He used that video last year to take 2nd in a video contest. The guy flying has since improved quite a bit and the last time he fly mine I found myself yelling at the plane things like "you never do that for me" ;):D The one in the video is my first one. I had an off field landing due to a dead stick which promptly took the front of the plane cleanly off. After a few words and a close inspection, I found very little glue holding in the front former. GP sent me a brand new one and I gave him the one in the video and he re-glued the font on and as they say, the rest is history. It's actually still flying with a Quadra (I think). Whaturi sold it to someone else we both know.

Remember, mine is seriously overpowered with a Da50 at 13.75lbs and it's still holding up really well, it is starting to show it's age, actually the abuse, as the covering has a few patches in it and is looking pretty nasty and I'm actually going to be giving the airframe to a friend of mine at the end of this season. I may get another one, not sure yet

elvir 10-09-2007 07:22 AM

RE: GP Cap 232

cool, mine is under powered with the Fuji 43 due to the rebuilding, I think I have added about a pound or more to the airframe, the first crash I was devastated do to radio problems, my friends went to pick up the pieces, they went to pick up the plane while i was putting the radio down so I did not walk over to the plane . I put it in the van , then on the work bench . In two weeks or so started to work on it , then I noticed that wood was missing , I had to make new wood parts that fit , no hobby shop for lit ply . So all the weight added up. But I do not care, it still flies grate , and slowly i am improving my skills. now after a crash they all look for anything left on the ground . Found from china a dl-50 is $275 plus about $50 to ship to Croatia , am tempted.

You said it brother...:D

I compete with him and was beating him in basic to the point he came up to me at Butcherfest and told me he wasn't gonna talk to me anymore, which promptly lasted one hour when he asked me to call for him, then he decided basic was too boring and he went to sportsman at CAPI and won it handily. Now we've been messing around with the 2007 Intermediate sequences, me calling, him flying (I can't do a roller to save my life but I can do everything else in the sequences easily) and depending on what the 2008 sequences are he may move to that and I'll hang out in sportsman for a while

That's easy for you to say with your "smoke"!!! Come stand beside this and then take-off after he lands!!! LOL[&:][&:][&:][&:][&:] 17 here and talking to Mike Carriero the whole time he's flying.

i have a fule question , has anyone used a cotten paper type fule filter type clunk in the fule tank the type you would find on a echo back pack leaf blower?

Al Lewis 10-14-2007 03:14 PM

RE: GP Cap 232

I've never even heard of one to be honest but I don't think I would consider using it unless you don't mind pulling your tank out should it deteriorate and start clogging fuel lines.

Sure do, Aircraft International sells them for use with 3W engines. They are supposed to hold a small amount of fuel in the filter so that those high stress, violent negative "G" things are less prone to starving the engine. Personally I do not use it on the plane but I do use it inside the gas can, keep reading and you'll see how I set mine up.

Now I know I'm gonna take heat for this one but OH well. I actually do not use an inline filter at all on the plane. When I first assemble the tank I flush it out to make sure there is no garbage in the tank. I use a standard lawn and garden fuel filter on the pump on the gas can (normal paper type which also is see through) which Pep boys, Advance Auto and other carry and costs about 3 bucks and there is a filtered clunk on the end of the line inside the tank as well that I buy from AI so if that clunk starts breaking down the other inline paper filter catches that. I change the inline filter every year as well as changing all the tygon lines every year and all the stoppers every two years. I know it's a lot BUT my planes usually have no fuel issues related to garbage in the fuel and the lines are always flexible. Besides it gives me something to do over the winter :D

And yes, we need that video, a Cap with smoke on coming down in a elevator or harrier or doing a slow tumble is a beautiful thing to behold when the smoke is poring out and wafting over the wings and fuselage

Al Lewis 10-17-2007 11:47 AM

RE: GP Cap 232

Don't know why you'd catch flak for that. I do the same thing. Filter in my filler tank and in-line with none on the plane. Always felt they could become too restrictive over a period and screw your tuning all up. I believe Walbros have internal fliter screens anyway.
