RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Jack, Yeah, that's the same Saito web site I've used for Saito info. Lots of good stuff there.
I got the Do to fly great today..........[X(] I changed out the batteries in my tach and was able to tune it and didn't have a dead stick at all......... You were right Gary. It just needed more fuel (richening) :D |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Ah, Rob, Gj, you guys are great. That info re the Saitos will be a big help, rich in cold. I couldn't get my 82 to START with the first cold snap--and haven't tried it since.
I thought of using lighter fluid to help, but both my Saitos have carb throats DOWN. How about squeezing some lighter fluid into the fuel lead? Glad to know you passionate fliers. Fly well, gentlemen <--and if I hurt you with that appellation, tough ****. Jack |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
beechtech How about making a slight alteration in your flight plan when you go visit gjeffers. LIke thru Ohio?:) Snow is great to lookat, but I don't know about flying in it. Is it hard to get those Saitos started when its cold? Also thanks for the tip about richening up engines whe its cold.
Spring is a long way off. Doug[8D] |

Is it hard to get those Saitos started when its cold? Also thanks for the tip about richening up engines whe its cold. Doug, I had trouble a week ago getting my 82 Saito started, 15 degrees. Today, 25 degrees, I turned it over a bunch of times, then injected a squeeze of Ronsonal lighter fluid right into into the fuel line. The carb opening is on the bottom, so out of easy reach. She popped right off. And I used the Ronsonal for my OS .61 and SuperTigre .45, too, but always AFTER you get them choked and turning over, get that head at least a LITTLE warm. Best wishes. Jack |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hehe California to Ohio and back to California. It would be cheaper to take the airlines. Snow is that white stuff? None of that here. :D

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Got ucando46 box last weekends! Started to build. Will go with S100. What do you think about a Vibration Reducing Mount like this one?
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD632&P=0 Did anyone try it? Does it really work? thanks |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
IMO, too much extra weight and not really worth it, further more i doubt you would be able to get the whole lot to fit on the firewall as these mounts are quite a bit wider than stock. I used the mount that came with the UCD46 for my OS91Surpass, i beleive that has the same mount dimensions as the S100, should be able to get it in there!:D
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I agree. Too much weight, cost, and hassle. The noise in the wings seems to be from few too many ribs which causes a large span of monocote between the ribs. I have some extra ribs that I was going to install between them but kind of gave up on doing that.

Hi All and Happy Holidays!!
Well Thought I'd bring the thread back to the front page:-)) Finally cleaned up, oiled and readjusted the S-100.. All looks and feels great:-) Well except the dent on the intake pipe but I can live with that until the shipment comes in... I sort of needed it for the replacement :-) Well I picked up the new "Do" as stated in my previous post.. I think we all have seen it in this thread about a trade.... So the new "Do" for under $100:-)) He is a great "friend" to deal with!! But... That darn word... Shipping... #@'* ... The box look in really great shape, "But" there was a small hole on the bottom... And wouldn't you know it's where the leading edge of the wing sits... So there's a small hole inbetween the ribs on the sheeting.. Quick repair.. But on hold, as he is checking on the insurance and a replacement wing.... Sad... But it's still a "YEEP-PEE!!!!" Ohh.... :-)..... My Kantana V2 46 is on the way........ Merry Xmas:-) Rob.. Your right on the rib spread and it is the reason for the "Do" harmonics :-) I had a first hand look see when removing equipment from my.... I can't say it... Poo Hoo.. crank... IMO.... Stick the S-100 on it!! You will love it!!! The cowl will fit... Just leave the cowl mounting blocks off and screw the cowl into the firewall/fuse area!!... I'm using the bigger mount and it'll fit... Forget about the soft mount, it does very little to the " wing harmonics" But it does help some, but looking at more weight... With the S-100 compared to the YS 63 with soft mount, I would have to say the "Do" flew the same in most areas...and in the others, you just have to learn to deal with "All that extra POWER" And let me "Emphasize extra POWER"... Also I get the same, if not longer flt. times on the S-100.... And just a little about the new "Do" and Great Planes.... My "Do" was in perfect shape I'm sure there will be some adjustments as pretty much all ARF's... But if shipping did not do there normal thing, I could not be happier... Well... I could... But that won't never happen:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
hey guys i just started to build my showtime yesterday
and i might not be flying my ucd much but i didn't say i would stop 38 |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey 38...
I also started putting my S.T. together... Well I have the pinned hinges in, a first for me... Man are they smooth.. But I think it's on the back burner again... I have to get the new "Do" up, then the Katana.... Are you changing anything on your S.T. during the build?? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
With all this Showtime talk and seeing Kyle fly his I am going to order one this week. I am also going to try the new Saito 125. The Do is just to much fun to stop flying it.

I'm anxious to hear about the Showtime vs. the Do or the Twist. And tell us how you set it power: engine, prop, et al. Jack |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
And, Doug, I've had NO trouble starting the 82 (on the Twist) the last two times out. One day it was 23 degrees, today it was 14. I started with NO throttle, then opened it to four clicks. Popped right off--and ran fine for three long flights. No lighter fluid needed. Surprised the hell outta me.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Oh, a caution for you snow fliers: if you land the Do in the snow, make sure you let up on the elevator BEFORE you touch down. I dead sticked Friday, found either a crispy piece of snow or a weed UNDER the snow, which caught one elevator half and yanked it off. The forward half of the elevator, on "UP," sticks DOWN as you know, and will catch anything there. I thought I had a great dead stick landing--until I looked at the path of the skiis--back to a red, white, blue and yellow piece of elevator. Ugh.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hi! all. No new UCD coming yet. I did get a great deal on Morris Hobbies 80" Big Boy. I know, I know. Couldn't resist. Besides my UCD is not even broke in yet. (Still my favorite)
raideron[:-] What trade are you talking about? $100 UCD. Who, Where. Man is it cold here. 3 gallons of fuel setting in garage and no courage to go fly. Get me a 40 degree day for x-mas. Doug:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Jack211
i'll know what my set up will be next week raideron i'm not changing anything on my ST keeping all the hardware on it the same i may lower the tank to stop the fuel siphon 38 |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Doug,
A few pages back there was a post about a trade and I remembered it so I made contact and worked the deal out for the $100 "Do" after I lost mine... The Xmas bells are still ringing (Boss in my ear) But I think about it as Sweet harmonics like the "Do" ... So even if you can't see it :-0... I'm smiling inside:-) 38... Besides the GP pinned hinges, Dubro fuel tank... And maybe a different tail wheel.. Or just a smaller wheel and hooking the streering springs to the frt. of the rudder... All else will be stock... I think it'll be a fun plane... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
DOUGWILL - If it EVER gets to 40 degrees, I'll meet you at the field. I have a new UCD sitting here waitin' to fly for the first time !!!!
Everyone have a nice, AND a safe Christmas !!! |

here is my latest build, now comes the work[&:] |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
My 46 UCD/Saito 82 is almost finished. My Twist / 46 OS is undergoing repairs from a crash. Some of you folks out there have both of these planes. I have lots of experinece with the Twist. I have purchased 5 of them. So I have lots of experience at crashing, flying, fixing, and building. How will the UCD compair? Slower, faster, easier to land? Easier or harder to fly? I am still doing aerobatic training and just starting to try 3D stuff. Any tips to watch out for on the maiden flight? Any comments would be most appreciated. Jim Tucker

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
patnjimtucker
Jim never flew the twist, but watched quite a few of them fly though. The shorter len. makes them a little squirrelly to me. The UCD on low rates is trainer-like, take-offs & landing are slow and predictable. no severe stall tendensies. You didn't say where your CG is. would suggest 4 3/4" to no more than 5 1/2' for the first couple flights. These guys will move it back to 6" or more. Really tail heavy for landings, but great for 3-D. On high rates it still flies smooth as silk. You point it, thats where it goes. I'm a beginner in 3-d also. Inverted is almost hands off. Spins and knife-edge are not there for me yet. It will land itself. Seriously! Happy Holidays to all. Doug |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
patnjimtucker, I had two Twists and yes, there're very squirrelly. To me anyway. They both augered in after doing some stunt or another. I've seen some guys fly them really well but the Twists don't seem to like me.
Hey Gary, You've been building that truck? [X(] No wonder you can fly inverted so well......[>:] Hmmmmm...... and I build airplanes...... [&o] Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work..... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Rob
my dad and i both have a twist and it is the worst plane i vere few i had nothing but problems flying it and when i got my do flying i was so happy, i retired my twist 38 |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Jack211
it will be a month before i fly my showtime but i would go with the do also i'm putting in a magnum 120 4-stroke, i'm not sure what prop i will use,i have 5 HS-5955TGS for all surfaces, for trottle i have a futaba 3001, because of the large ounces of tork(333on. on 6v) from the servos i'm using 2 6v packs on different switches pluged in to different ports on the rec., a polk seaker2 8 channel rec., a slimline fuel butten on the cowl, and remote glow starter plug all i need is the remote glow, the magnum 120, and the rec. so i can't check the cg the only thing i'm changing is the tank i'm lowering it 38 |
