:)gjeffiers...

That plane is big...but it doesn't look scale. The model isn't that well built. Sort of a "stand way off" scale.

Thanks
Barry

Nice 1 scale Piper Comanche. That should burn around 12-14 gallons an hour at 3.80 a gal. hehe

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I am picking it up this afternoon. I cant wait to try the Saito. I had a 46 FX and Ax in my old one. If it were not for how too easy it is to land, I would recomend this plane for a trainer for just about anyone, except someone who wants to get into warbirds. They need to learn how to land with speed, and the UCD just does not like fast bumpy landings at all.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

i agree crash, i learned by myself here in nomans land and after my trainer i had a ucd 60 (2) and a ucd46 before i got my edge 540 and man was it a task to land but i did it with a lot of practice (without tearing anything up because i have a HUGE runway) but now i can get that warbird when im ready without fear:D

:)gjeffers...
Is that runway you fly off of a real airport? Why was the Piper on it? Is it private? Why do you have access to it?
Looks like a great place to fly.
Thanks

Hey People!!

Gary Great job on your "Powered" remaiden!!!.... Man I need to find some $$$$$

Hey I like your new plane.... Bet it won't flatspin good, and no way on the F.S. landing
I know I would not like that:)

D_m post office... Still waiting and looking... Still two different answers from the
two post offices....:-((( The "Boss" is really working on me for my decision on that...

So, "Do" on hold... S.T. still mostly in the box, still waiting parts(never happen) on the
Yak.. 4* flies and so does the V2... but on my last outing, Luckily it happened just as I
throttled up for take-off, Rudder went full left:( Good thing it's a non-tail wheel steerer
so I was able to kill it before the safety fence... I thought my radio splice went bad from
the last time this happened, opened the radio, and found my splice good, but the wire at
the other end broke at the board solder:(( and the middle wire looks about ready to go
also.. It's weird... no stress on the wires what so ever???? Anyway I sent it in for a check
up and asked them to replace all three wires from board to board...
Hey my Avistar flies(different radio) the 46FX ran good... I was trying to rip the banded
wings off by "practicing" the plyon course about 15' up at wide open throttle.. She did
pretty good for a stock trainer:)) The peanut gallery said, you were spot on in the turns
but we were waiting for your wings to come apart.. Then they said that I should enter it
this weekend... But I think they are trying to bait me....
The club finally talked me into putting together a SPAD guess its like a 40size running 30ci
and under for combat and racing... Should be Great:))) If we can get all that's in it, we
could get up to 8 up at once...

Sorry for the rant, But I can't fly...

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I have a question about my UCD46. Will rasing the stablizer to a position like the 60 and 120 size decrease the amount of coupling seen in KE? (Sorry if this covered back in the 165 pages!!!!!!!)

Barry Cazier 02-02-2006 11:12 AM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)mwright...

Most will say that raising the stap (difficult to do) would make the coupling worse. In my book the 46 KE better than the 60. If you spend time working out the trims these planes will KE great. But it takes a lot of effort with mixes and trimming. But, I feel it's worth it. I can KE both mine horizon to horizon. I have to fly it (not hands off) but it's as pretty as it gets.

Wonderful airplanes. The more I fly something else...the better I like these.

Thanks
BArry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

So if the stablizer is not responsible for the coupling then is it the rudder? Maybe too much above the thrust line?

Barry Cazier 02-02-2006 02:43 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)mwright...

I don't know. You are dealing with stuff out of my league. I know Arco Joe changed his rudder to quite a bit smaller on his 60 size. He thought it was better.

I just fly mine the way it is. I have a couple of mixes going but that's why I have a programable radio. But I can fly KE without mixes too.

I just love these planes. They are my favorites. I can't find much fault.

Thanks
Barry

Yea.. much easier to just move the sticks so she flies the way you want. I was just curious.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Barry, your sounding like the FAA:D ok here goes:
yes-----because he had to take off--------no--------i have a key[X(]

Hi Ron, good to hear from ya, i tried to get it to flatspin but the little pilot in there said i was crazy[X(] and i said OK chicken:)if i had as many things going on that you have i think id be stressing[&:]

mwright, Barrys right about just mixing it all out and then fly what you cant mix out, mine are both like his , i got them as close as i could and then fly whats left and they both knife good. if i really torture myself and think about it i think that what really is the problem and responsible for the coupling is a combination of the main wing not being on the true thrustline(rear being lower than the leading edge) and the rudder being way above the thrustling contributed to the roll coupling, now also as you use fuel you change the cg and this causes a variable dive to the wheels as the tank empties if you retrim the ele in flight,
MAN MY HEAD HURTS:eek:

WOW,did i make any sense to anyone?[&:]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Gary--and all,

I'm sure that if you have the expensive computer radios, you just, well, HAVE to try the "mixes." But what happened to "flying"? Can't we learn to input the needed aileron support for KE? It's called flying your own, I believe. Or perhaps I'm just an old fashioned Luddite, won't let a machine fly his bird, averse to all the computer-assisted, whatchacall, ... flying.

Jack <--tongue in cheek

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hi all. I am looking for a little help. I picked up a new ys 63S last week and after deciding that it was going to be to much for my fazer to handle I bought a U-can-do-46. Has anyone used this motor combo with this plane? If so, can you let me know how it worked out for you and what prop works best. I was thinking 14X4w and hoping it will be able to pull out of hovers fairly well. Also, if anyone has any advice on putting together the ARF, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for the help!

Barry Cazier 02-03-2006 04:29 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)ItsShowtime...

I think raideron is using that combo. He'll chime in here soon. But I think most are using the 13x4W on the 63 to let it rev a bit higher.

You may reinforce the landing block a bit, or wait till it fails, some don't, and then do it. Build it as light as possible. I use carbon fiber pushrods to make it stiff and for precision control. Cut the cowl WAYYYYYYY open on the bottom for good cooling.

Avoid doing the flat spin landing with this plane. It doesn't like it very much.

Thanks
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hi Its Showtime and welcome to the "Do" Thread,

I had a YS 63.. Not the "S" on my "Do" 46.. It ran great and pull out of a hover was good,
it did all that I could do and did it well with that combo IMO... But during the summer months
of high heat(Hot,Hot,Hot) and thin air here in AZ land the combo left something to be desired
for hovering pull out. So I switched to the S-100... Got that tip from a "Power Maniac" :D here
on this thread.. I now would use nothing less.. On the YS63 I had the APC 13x4W, but as it
heated some I went to the Pro Zinger 13X4 and I eventually ended up with the APC 12.25x3.75
Barry gives all the tips that's needed for the build, as he said the landing gear block reinforce
is the main tip, I had 440 rods and they worked well, Mine also had flying wires on the tail
feathers, But most seem to have no trouble as long as you do not score the bulsa when removing
the covering on your build. The "Do" is a good flyer, floater and almost lands by itself... Just a
fun plane!!! I ended up losing my "Do" due to a battery solder joint break... It was a sad day:(
But when USPS starts doing their job, I'll have another "Do" flying....

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

hey there itsshowtime, i think the only thing left to mention is that if you fly before beefing up the lg and decide to beef after they break off(which will be a clean break and easy to fix) i would not put the wheel pants on, they will go right through the wings so wait till you beef them up and there will be less work;)

good luck

Hey Itsshowtime, Also if you haven't read it on here, don't fly the U C Do too fast. Too much fast flight with snappy turns will start breaking things. [X(]

Now who would do something like that:eek:

actually this was due to having way to mych funnnnn,
Rob is right, never go with more than a 6 pitch prop no matter what size;)

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I have a UCD .46 w/a Super Tigre .45. When I get a plane in the air with a cowling on it I fly it several
times before I install the cowl. I am ready to put the cowling on it but dont like the huge Super Tigre
muffler. I am curious if anybody has a J'tec inverted muffler on their UCD? If so, does it fit and have
any clearance between the cowl and muffler. I think it would look much much better w/o a muffler
sticking out of that side. Just a hole in the front, on top for the high speed needle and a slot on the
bottom for the muffler, glow driver, and hold on the side for my fueler.

If anybody has this or another muffler that does not stick out the side on a 2 stroke please post pics
and what the muffler is...thank you!!

CrashBurn69 02-05-2006 01:35 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I dont know about the Jtec, but one thing you can do is mount your engine sideways instead of inverted. That way the muffler exits the bottom and is not as visible.

raideron 02-05-2006 01:39 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

sdcranford , I really don't know for sure:(... But, IMO the inner cowl area on the "Do" is
a bit small, So I think trying to add more in there would be trouble.. I have seen some
planes with a tube somehow connected to the exhaust port and ran to the underside of
the fuse and the muffler placed there.....

I really only posted because I wanted my 1200 post to be on this thread:D

Well the post office... No, no money yet:( But they did say that with the holidays that
past and their present system, The St. Louis P.O.(claims) would not show when they
received the item, But would only be shown when they sent or denied payment... Great
modern system. Guess they should increase their rates more to improve..
I'm going to do what I said I was not(I don't know why??) I need to order some parts
for my racer/combat SPAD... So I'll just go ahead and order the wing then.... And hope
they return my money... Say in atleast 3 years....

sdcranford 02-05-2006 03:01 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Well, I am going to keep it inverted, would rather see the muffler come out than the
head of the engine. Thanks for a few tips. It is a bit crammed and I think I will just
keep the muffler and make the hole for it to come out.

Thanks
