RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffers...
What % fuel you running. I was hoping for a little more revs out of that motor. The YS will go another 600-700 RPM. But I'm running 30%. I' m very anxious to hear how she flys for you. My guess is your jaws will hurt from grinning so much. And....I've reconsidered. I'll bet the 125 would be awesome in the 46. You are the one guy who could get away with it. One thing tho...I'll bet your roll rate would equal your engine RPM. Good luck on the re-maiden of that sweet ship. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
its 15% powermaster Barry, its all i can get most of the time, or can afford here, i will get a little more out of it, should pull it up up and away:)

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffers...
No question it will fly that baby. On 15% that's pretty good RPM. When you double the nitro you get about 20% more power, or so I've heard. I know at my elevation 30% is necessary. It's like a drug adict going for more dope. You just can't get enough. Up here in thin air the 30% is wonderful. I wish I could be there to watch you. I would get a kick out of it. I remember so well when I put the YS in my UCD. I just could not believe the difference it made. I mean WOW!!!!! It flew better in every respect. Hovers became so easy. KE for a reason that escapes me became considerably easier and prettier. ( may have been the slightly more forward CG but the extra power made it easier to hover and waterfall etc. so CG doesn't need to be as far back for good 3D) You'll be grinnin' like a goat eatin brier. I laughing just thinking about it. Try that rising flat spin. It'll do them with the extra power. I can just hear your son..."Dad, is that a hemi in there?" Man, I can hardly wait to hear your report. Thanks BArry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
dont put so much pressure on my plane Barry, what if it doesnt perform to these standards, it will be devistated[:o]
but ill do my best to help it:D (just kidding):) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffiers...
My guess is you'll be truly amazed and love the "Do" even more. I couldn't believe the difference the extra HP made in mine. I just couldn't believe it. Makes me want to go ahead and put the 100 in the 46. But I've always felt I had enough in the small one and I felt a little less than satisfied with the 100 in the big one. But the 110 cured that. But it's got plenty. I'm sure the Saito will have plenty also. Can't wait to hear your thinking. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
you were so right Barry,i was truley amazed, this engine was so strong and so quite it is like a gentle giant, so much power compared to the 100 but at the same time sounds like its barly working[8D]
i am still running it a tad rich at 8700 rpm(9100 peak) on 15% its a power house and imo the perfect engine for the 60 size. the knifes were easier as you stated earlier, and hover was so easy and would shoot out if nessesary, and i do mean shoot out:D this engine will not only make the 120 obsolete but why even buy a 100 when you can put this in???? hey that gives me an idea[sm=idea.gif]it might work with a little throttle managment:) im not good at writing letters so if anyone has any Q's just ask, ;) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffiers...
Congrats on a 2nd maiden. You are the first person I've heard of that has actually flown the 125. Cool. I'm glad you like it. Did I exagerate? Funny how an engine is such an important part of the plane. It made more difference in mine than I could ever imagine. I'm thinking if you are peaking a 9100 RPM with 15% You'd get close to 9800 on 30%. That puts me right where I need to be at my elevations. I'm assuming 16x6 APC. Did this engine make you like the UCD60 more than before? Waterfalls? Rising inverted flat spin? Still landing ok? Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hi Barry just the guy I was hoping to talk to. This may be a dumb question. finally got a good day to try out the 30% fuel. Engine rmps increased 500 or more. But I could not seem to richen out the high speed needle. I turned it out about 8-10 turns and it still seemed to not drop many rpms. This is on a Saito 80. Does this sound typical of that fuel or do I have another problem?
Doug |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Dougwill...
You have a problem. I suspect air leak. Normally you would only have to turn 1/4 turn or so from where you were at on lower nitro. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffers...
Like you said...why would anybody buy the 100 now. Only reason would be if Saito but the 100 in the 82 case.!?!?!?!? Wouldn't that be awesome? I think I'll go over to the Saito thread and start that rumor. Maybe Saito will read it and get some ideas. Maybe they already have that engine in the works. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks Barry I was afraid of that. Really wanted to tear into that new fuel.
Gjeffers congrads on that new engine and successful flight. Whers's the pictures? It makes me want to dump my 120 (11 oz. heavier i think). Doug |

Barry, i still need to tune my flying surfaces to do a great flatspin, a more forward cg changed the way it does them, my 60 never did good waterfalls, but i will work on them and finally with the forward cg the landings were some of my best ever,(i think flying and landing my edge helped)
the most fun i ever had with my 60!! Doug, pull the carb and look for crap in it, dont take much to do what you are explaining.(may be a piece in the needle barrel, mine did that and that is what it was;) here are a couple of pics |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Gary, let me add my congrtulations on your maiden and successive flights. I'm glad to hear the 125 is such a great powerhouse.
And Barry, you mentioned the 16x6 prop. Would it be any help to have a 16 x 4 or x 5? Jack |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Jack211...
I've used both a 16x4W prop and a 16.5x5W prop (APC). The 16x4W gave over 10000RPM and only about 11.5 lbs thrust. The 16.5x5W gave me 13lbs 0ozs thrust at about 8800 RPM. I liked that prop but felt it loaded the engine a little too much at my elevation. I think at lower elevation it might be fine. For me the 16x6 APC seems to net the most thrust and allows mid 9000 RPM which is perfect for the YS110. I also used a 17x4W which neted 12lbs 2ozs thrust at about 9700 RPM. The 17x4W is my 2nd choice. It works fine and is actually easier to hover even though overall thrust is less. It really slows a plane down tough and other maneuvers are not as nice. gjeffers... What kind of economy did you get? Are you using the stock UCD fuel tank? How many minutes flying time? Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Cool Gary.........[X(] I'll be getting one this spring/summer for my Mayhem......[8D]'
Keep us posted...... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Barry, i flew 10 min (just to be safe) and used about 9-10 oz and yes it is the stock tank (i think its 14 oz?)not much more than the 100 so imo its pretty economical;)
Rob, man is it ever gonna quit raining, i keep an eye on the weather and man that sucks up there[:'(] but you will love the 125, i do and will fly a fly for you today:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffiers...
Yeah that sounds like pretty good economy. My experience tells me that a more powerful motor in the same plane yields the same economy. I think most of the time you use less throttle than you do with the smaller engine. Makes it worth it in every way. Thanks Barry |

That's a great idea. Turn a hobby into an income. Give it a try. THanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
yesterday
my dad and i went flying in the morning it was fine but around noon it got windy i almost crashed my ucd when i was hovering 5' of the deck, then a gust of wind made me lose control for a moment, but i got back in one piece got my heart beating but i don't think i'll do that in the wind 38 |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I just wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone. This thread has really grown since last year. I took last year off from models, but I am getting back now. Out of all the models I had before, I am a firm believer that the UCD should be in every hanger. The one I had before I purchased used and never put it together. I just ordered a new 46 with a Saito 82. It will be my first 4 stroke, and I am really stoked to get my hands on it. I am hoping by the end of Feb. the weather will cooperate and let me get back to the club and get going again. Its nice to see so many people are having such good luck with this bird still.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
welcome back crashburn69, if you need anything just ask, thats why were here, and you will love the saito and will probably never go back to 2 strokes, im not,i think[&:]
good luck!! |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks Barry, Gjeffers
sputtering engine. Checked all the lines and tank. Blew some compressed air into carb feed line and it seems ok now. Must be or had been something in needle barrel. Lousy luck. Best day we've had around here and I had engine problems. Must have been contagious. One other UCD 46 wouldn't even fire. Also one guy sprang a leak in the tank of UCD 60 and soaked inside of plane and seemed to short out y-harness. Really lucky to get it down. Really envious of those Saito 125s. Gotta have me one. :( What to sell? welcome back CrashBurn69. Where else can you have this much fun. Doug |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Crashburn, Welcome back[8D]. I fly the Saito in my 46 and find that it does fine. Nice motor with gobs of power. [X(]
