Default Project finished - Thanks for the help

I want to thank you guys for your help over the last few weeks. I finished the Delta wing and it flies great. There is a build thread in the "Extreme speed forums". Other then engine cowl time I had it ready to fly in four days. There has been a lot if interest in this plane so I may try to put a few kits together. It came out with a ready to fly weight of 2 lbs 10.8 oz but I did have to add a couple of oz. of lead to balance. The wing span is 32 inches with a wing area of 475 sq. in. The engine is a TT 46 pro for testing and is turning a 9 x 7 just over 16,000 rpm.

Nicely done. I'll have to move this to Scratch Building since it's off topic for here but I'll leave it for a day or two to let folks get the "thankyou".

Bruce,
Doesn't the engine cowl thread qualify it for Aerodynamics? I already have a thanks thread over in the "Scratch build" forums.

Mike

Perhaps you should have added it to your cowl thread. lol
Nice job on your plane, hope to see some video soon.

So how about a 60 size version that the engine is totally enclosed, then duct the cooling out the rear, tunned pipe....

Maybe the cowl thread would have been a good place for this but there is actually a few threads I started about the design of this plane in the Aerodynamics forums over the last several weeks.

I have had a few request for a larger delta. Maybe something big enough to take a OS 90 DF engine or sport 60. Someone even wanted something called landing gear. This plane does scream rear exhaust and that cowl would be fun to build.

Mike,
Landing gear???
I would think retracts would be more appropriate. What type of prop do you use with a OS91 df, they spin at around 20,000 rpm wonder what type of tip speed that figures out to.

I can't wait to hear what type of speed your present airplane can reach.
So I take it that engine temp was ok, did you run it with the cowl on during your ground break in?

Regards
Paul

Paul,
Retracts??? Do they design themselves? Too many irons in the fire for that right now. I can't believe how many people want to buy this plane and I am not ready for that yet.

I have been reading that people put up to 10 x 10 CF props an a OS 91 DF engines and tip speeds are very close to critical mach. A new world speed record of 244 mph was denied this year in Germany because of too high a wing loading.

My engine was broken in on the bench and the first flight was without a cowl. The second flight was with the cowl. It was probably a minute after the engine quit before I thought about engine temp but at that point I was able to lay my fingers accross the head without discomfort. I will check sooner Saturday when we fly. I have a Doppler program to determine speed from audio on a high speed pass. It seems fairly accurate and I hope to have some #'s this weekend. The forcast is good. There were several comments about how fast my plane was going but after flying Jett Engineering engines this TT 46 only looked kind of fast.

..... Someone even wanted something called landing gear. ....

PHFFFTHTHTHT! ! ! What a bunch of wussys..... Lahndin' gears? We don' need no steeeenkin' lahnding gears.

Fast planes use take off dollys or nuffin'. You can tell them I told them that....

EDIT- I can't help but think that the turned up tips would look equally as good if turned down. Sort of more of a tough guy look. But any way you cut it the model looks great.

Be sure to get back with reports of some speed readings if you get a chance.

That's what I say, "wussys...". This is my fourth plane in a row without gear so who needs them. However, turned down tips may look good but but get alot of wear during landings with out gear. I thought about that and maybe could have reinforced them to withstand the landings. I am really happy with the way it looks and thank you for the compliment.

You wont move my thread to the "extreme speed" forum if I post speeds in here, will ya?

Video
The first 15 seconds is my brothers attempt to get the launch on tape. I had to let him go after that.
New stock Thunder Tiger Pro 46 running just a tad rich. The prop is a cut down sport APC 8.75 x 8.
36 meg. You may want to right click and download first.
The faster runs appear to be close to 120 mph. The pass at the 2 minute mark seems to be the fastest. Ready for some serious power now.

Edit - Added a single high speed pass for dial up. 1.3 meg

For those having trouble viewing the video I put it on YouTube.
