I am new in full scale ....
I am interested to know what power plants you guys use in these machines ?
What servos ?
And most important of all .... from where are these planes available ? Are they available in kit form from any source ? or are they all custom built ?
Any info would be greatly appreciated !
thanks in advance,
Usman,

Large scale models, typically 1/4 full size or larger use gasoline motors a lot.. the planes are generally too large for the typical glow or four stroke motors seen in models.
There are high output servos available.. these are sometimes used in parallel and series depending on the surface size and use for the model.
There's two types more or less... one is a scale replica of any plane, built to resemble that in every aspect, including performance... slow where that's appropriate, and fast....
The aerobatic large scales are not for the novice. These planes require major investments in the motor and the radio, and lots of flying skill.
The more scale types can be as expensive, but sometimes are easier to fly.

Are you talking large scale RC birds or full scale that you can ride in?
If full scale, there are tons of power plants. Anything from a VW engine to Subaru, to actual aircraft engine. Even some guys using big block chevy engines. They are all different depending on what plane tickles your fancy.

Are there actually R/C planes which can carry you ?
I have seen lots of large scale ... but 1:1 scale only once in a picture ..it was an electric pitts special.
Any of you guys has any pictures of your full scale please share them with us ....
Also i still need to know from where are these FULL SCALE (1:1) kits available ? Has anyone ever tried to fly an actual aerobatic plane (like extra etc) just by putting servos in it ?

Europe has no weight or size restrictions on their RC models. I know that
some have built full size rc models of real aircraft. One that comes to mind in
particular is the little bipe, I think it was called the "Flea". I saw it in
Oskosh in 2002. It has a WS of about 8 ft, or so.
The largest scale model that I have seen in the US was pictures of
an 80% Staudacher. He was using a 4 cylinder Zenoah, I think (ultralight
size) engine. I don't know if he ever flew it.
I use the term full size when speaking of "real" aircraft to RC
pilots to clarify between RC & full size aircraft.
Boy, that's tricky![X(]
I would think that anyone building a 1:1 scale RC model
would have to build from plans. I don't think anyone sells
kits for these. I would think the liablilty alone would stop
someone from marketing it. There won't be many planes
small enought to build a 1:1 RC model. Most will be too
large...
I'm not sure that I helped!!!

Now I am getting it .... But I have one confusion ..if full scale doesn't refer to R/C planes ... then why do we have a forum here at RCU ?
Thanks for clarifying things out pals !

The full scale forum here is because many of us fly both full scale and models, and its nice to have one place to go to look and talk both. They didn't want us talking full scale in the club house so we can do it here.
If you want to see full scale kits, look at aircraft spruce and specialties. They have full scale kits. Use google to find it. I don't remember their exact link. Full scale is a lot of work, but fun. I am building a highly modified Long EZ. Its a ton of fun and fast! Should get close to 250 MPH out of this one.

Flyboy!
A good friend of mine has built a Long EZ here in Western N. Carolina.
His name is Leo D. He also flys RC here too. I thought you might know
him from a builders group.
Be safe!

What materials do you people use ? Are they like R/C ones ? Plywood, glassfibre etc ?
I suppose mainly Aluminum is used also . How much time and $$$ does it take to build a small joy rider .... and what about these kits of Extra and pitts that some manufacturers make ?
