It's not just a single event but the Club exclude a group everyday.

Every club should be pulling in every Multi rotor guys, requiring them to join the AMA. Make the AMA stronger! Same goes to the 3D guys that are not AMA members. It is not taking away from anyone.

So we want to support the AMA or not. Why would clubs not want to support the AMA?

Guess Ken was right, this was all about 3D flying after all, despite the comments about AMA and quads.

If you don't like whats going on in your club, run for office and try to make some changes.

Most of the time it's idiots with attitudes. My buddies and I were invited to a new club several years ago. We were conservative and respectful. Now they all clear the field happy to watch some 3d flying. Its amazing where a smile and a handshake will get you. This is like third grade girls arguing here

Here in the San Antonio area we do all kinds of flying styles and aircraft preferences together, I moved here in 1989 and over the years we coexist peacefully and enjoy the camaraderie of the hobby/sport between us all. I guess we are just lucky round these parts...

The guys I run with and the clubs I fly at love it all. We fly 3D, precision, fun fly, electrics, sport, speed, warbirds, jets, helicopters, and whatever really. Personally I enjoy flying them all, and for the record I have seen some very talented 3-D pilots and warbird pilots alike.

Please DO NOT base anything about what I may or may not favor based on what is in my gallery. You have no idea of what type of airplanes I prefer to fly since you have not asked me. To answer one question, the pictures of warbirds that are in my gallery are from Warbirds Over The Rockies, an event that I covered for RCU. I uploaded them to my gallery so that I could get the images into the Shot Of the Moment application that runs RCU's front page. If you want to look into my gallery latter on today you will probably see a bunch of jets there as well, these are from Jets Over Kentucky. But they don't have anything to do with what style of airplanes that I prefer as well. But if you want to know what type of flying I prefer please don't make any assumptions and ask me. As a side note, I don't participate in the AMA forum for a reason. Many years ago RCU was ready to close down the AMA forum because of the mess it was. I took it over and I made a promise that I would moderate it but I would never participate in any discussion on in the forum for the simple reason that I want to remain 100% neutral on anything going in the forum. That way when I do have to take actions I can't be accused of taking actions to promote my own view point. Now will on occasion post a phone number to somebody at the AMA, or post the link to something on the AMA's website. But other than that I will NEVER enter into any discussion so that I can remain 100% neutral in any discussion going on here. You can be sure that any actions I take here are backed by the rules of RCU and not by any personal bias.

Now to address your concerns about my comments about closing this thread. That is what I have said. If you want to look back to the history of threads started by Crash99 in this AMA Forum you will find that they all have the same theme. Basically that they follow the same "3D flyers are the best flyers because .......". There have been many of these threads started by him using this same line of reasoning over the years. One recent one that leaps to mind even went so far as to suggest that 3D flyers should get cheaper insurance rates because they are safer flyers than other types of pilots. When this thread started up I received numerous complaints from members about his once again starting another "3D flyers are better pilots" thread. So that's where my where my warning comes from. If this is a legitimate thread then I'm more than happy to let it run and have a healthy discussion about this topic. But if it turns into another one of his "3D pilots are better pilots because......" then it's going to be closed. Plain and simple.

Ken

Same here only the other way around.

I don't moderate in the AMA section because I participate in the discussions unless something is really blatant like posting profanity or porn.

Ken, first thank you for running this forum.

It was not my intention to single out 3D in this thread but that is where the topic went to due to a off the wall comment about the 3D group. It was a unfair comment.

I just share the information I receive from the lady that works on clams for the AMA. Every year since 98 I ask if any clam was involved with a 3D airplane. So far I got the answer no. Not I can't tell you that information but just a simple no.

Again, thank you for taking the time in looking free the thread.

To clear up my option, I fly a lot of different aircraft from a DJI 550 to take video and photos, new for me a 250 quad racer..... My hat is off to those guys that fly in the woods, Trainers, profiles, heli, sport and so on,

My option is the same for each group. So if X group is excluded and there is no reason then I think it's wrong.

Now should a club that don't want to do its part in promoting the AMA be treated the same as the clubs that will promote the AMA? If so why?

BarracudaHockey- No, I'm not against 3D flying at all. I merely used it as an example of how a fringe group can annoy the mainstream to the point of being banned. We had a similar situation a couple of years ago at my club. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and nobody got excluded. We had a number of young guys who had joined and enjoyed their electric park flyers immensely. So much so that the older glow and gas pilots sometimes felt uncomfortable due to the haphazard way they sometimes flew. So a motion was brought by a small group to bam all electric foamies from the club field. An alternate solution of speaking to the offending members about their behavior won out, and the problem was solved.

Amazing what happens when a bunch of adults act like, well.....adults

Wish we would see more of it.

I'm fortunate to get to visit a lot of clubs, I try to observe the good and bad at each club and bring that back to mine as a club officer.

I went to visit one club a couple hours from me because I was early for an appointment and the person wasn't available for an hour or so. There were about 15 people flying, the only person that said a word to me in 30 minutes of hanging around watching was a jet guy that I already knew. I encourage our folks to say hello to folks they don't recognize, see if they have any questions and make them feel comfortable.

Does the AMA ask if you were flying 3D when you file a claim...?

Why would they have any "3D Specific" claims data...?

I gotta say Bios is a basic input output system

Bias or biased is what you're trying to say

I can assure you his only bias is to keep things civil and moving in a positive direction.

If ever there were a "leading" question , this right here is the textbook example . You take a HUGE leap of fact VS fiction when you assert that a club that prohibits a certain type of flying is not "Promoting the AMA" . If you want intelligent conversation , knock it off with the "so how long have you beat your wife" BS questions and get to the point of the matter . You think that to ban any one type of flying (and 3D seems to be the cause you are crusading for ) a club should be somehow cut off from AMA affiliation and so far as I see it , not one single person who has responded to this thread has agreed with you .

It's not that everyone is against you .......... It's just that , , Well , , Your wrong . No doubt about it ......

Exactly this ^^^

Imagine what would happen if Crash had his way and created a rule where clubs had to file paper work or show up in person at a hearing to justify excluding any special interest groups from flying at their field or even just from flying at specially reserved events..!
Can you imagine if that was the way things worked in our society..?

Uhhh, wait.....better disregard that last comment......

And, here, I truly thought I was answering a legitimate forum by being truthful and honest about restrictions put on us jet guys. I also fly an IMAC/3D CARF 3.2M (124"ws) Extra, due to it being an extremely nice and precise flying plane. Even though I have my own style of flying, not 3D or IMAC, I must be flying the two worse category of planes in our hobby? And, darn! Here I thought it was foamies and heli's.......lol. Guess it depend on the color of your sunglasses?

Clubs don't have a responsibility to promote the AMA.

If you're disagree with the rules your club has implemented the you need to address it with your club officers. The AMA does not engage in club politics.

I've had the exact same experience, only with a club I used to belong to. The club had two fields. I did 99% of my flying at one field. One day I was in the area of the other field and figured I stop by. Several guys were flying none of which I knew. I walked around and watched for 20-30 minutes and no one said a word to me. Now , I realize modelers aren't known for their social skills, but at a time when many clubs are loosing members and activity is low you'd figure every spectator is potential new member.

Isn't it ironic how so-called "Freedom Loving People" are often the ones who demand that others sacrifice THEIR freedoms in order to serve them...?
