Maybe it's because someone came on here around April of '08 and started a lot of poo flinging. Now he wonders why he was/is a target when the poo settled/settles on the ceiling fan. [8D]
Perhaps you can find solace in that other forum where everyone tip-toes through the tulips hand in hand. [sm=49_49.gif]
There you can find your HAPPY NEW YEAR. [sm=angel_smile.gif]

From the above post, it looks like nothing has changed in the new year. Folks still flinging poo around here as usual.
I thought that would get tiresome after awhile, but I guess not. Must be a hobby in itself I suspect.
Carry on.

Oh, so the poo flinging started in Apr 08? Betcha I can find it going back much farther than that. And I'm sure you can to.
And since I'm not throwing any, I don't see any coming my way.
Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year and God Bless!

The problem is these last few generations are a i want it now and no i dont want to wait or put the time into anything. This hobby will be doomed if real flight ever winds up on x box.

Starting January.
The AMA will require ALL new members to fly 10 laps SOLO, a DYNA JET, on 40' UC lines.............No waivers.

Good for you! There is an awesome club in your area. I'm sure you will enjoy it and the folks there.

Ok guys, time for a bunch of you to take a few steps back and catch your breath. There are a few in here that seem to want to start off the new year with a full fledged spitting match. I suggest that if that's the case you take a time out and cool down because this type of behavior isn't going to be allowed to continue. If members can't participate in the discussion without attacking others then I would recommend that you refrain from participating in this discussion, because this bickering and fighting isn't going to be tolerated.

Our club has 4 new members as of late. We've definitely seen a growth in both AMA & club membership here in our neck of the woods. We must be doing something right.

Let's get to the bottom of the debate. AMA is not growing because of the 1.)COST. 2.) Fields are being lost all over the US and the AMA is not doing anything to help retain them, Mile Square Park in Southern California was taken away to put in a Golf Course, Whittier Narrows park in Southern California is being considered for "Other" uses. Hey guys, this leaves only ONE good flying site in Southern California to fly at. The AMA needs to foster growth through participation in clubs OTHER than the National Flying Site. In the 35+ years that I have been flying, I have never see or been contacted by an AMA representative (unless I'm late in getting my membership renewed). This last year, I am one of the ones that has dropped my membership. I was in the AMA since 1975 and feel that the AMA is failing it's members by not doing more in the sanctioned clubs to help the new prospective members succeed and grow. I have seen the "Dues" grow every year and the National Flying Site "Grow" every year, and I would emagine AMA staff salaries grow, but helping the clubs grow......doesn't happen. When the AMA wakes up, I will gladly rejoin, I just hope they wake up before it's too late to salvage the organization. The debate by the Hobby Shops and the "Staunch Old Timers" is a totally different debate. AMA Senior Staffers....Get your head out or put in a plexiglas plate so you can see what's going on.

I see folks blaming the "AMA' for so many things. What seems to be forgotten in all of this is that WE, that means you and I, are the AMA. So I must ask, what are you doing about helping to secure flying sights? If they are being lost in your area, and you guys let that happen without putting up a fight then who is to blame?
My football coach used to say, "When you point a finger at someone else, you have three pointing back at you." One must ask, what am I doing to help.

Thats just exactly what you are doing now. Yer one of the big ama crusaders, but all you ever do is sit around an tell everybody what they oughta be doing. Since you luv'em so much, why don't YOU get in there an help straighten things out.
That pacifist attitude of yours reminds me of the hippies from the 60's.
I'm with CAhardhat
Our whole club is gonna drop ama this year an do something different, We have never even seen our area rep in 13-14 years that the club has been here. And to tell ya the truth, I can't think of a thing ama has done for us, other than take our money every year to waste in Muncie on stuff WE will never see or use. As far as I am concerned, the ama is just a big money pit to us.
Our field will be here 25 years from now because of where its at, but I do feel sorry for the poor guys that have lost their field. AMA oughta be in there pullin' some strings to keep these fields IMO

MUROC1 I CANT BELEIVE THAT YOU JUST PUT THE BLAME ON THE MEMBERS OF THE AMA... COME ON. THE TRUTH IS MOST OF THE BLAME FOR THE LOST OF FLYING FIELDS ARE DUE TO THE CITY, STATE, COUNTY OR WHAT EVER THEY FEEL THAT THE PROPERTY IS WORTH MORE TO THEM THEN A FLYING FIELD.. WE LOST OUR CITY FLYING TO THE PARKS AND REC. AND WAS TURN INTO A SOCKER FIELD AND AS FOR THE BOARD MEMBERS OF THE AMA THEY NEVER EVEN SENT A LETTER TO HELP. I AM A MEMBER OF THE AMA AND HAVE BEEN FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND THE ONLY REASON IS FOR THE INS.

Greed festers in all big corps an orgs, its a proven thing. The PPP thing was a waste of $ from the word go, but somebody up there stood to make some bucks off of the promotion of it whether it made a buck or not.

Let's face it folks, this aint a hobby for a little kid with a single mom, or any young child that doesn't have a commited parent, uncle, grand dad, etc. To succeed in this hobby it takes dedication, patience and financial resources that few kids have. Most kids, even if they have the desire, cannot do it on there own. Of course there are exceptions, but trying to get kids to join the AMA is a waste of time. If you really want to fly, you will eventually have to come to the AMA. Sad maybe, but I think, true.

Anyway, I try to promote model aviation, not just the AMA. And you know that so why go there.

Are you saying that someone living in NY, like the president of AMA, is supposed to know what is happening in OR? Do you think that is a realistic expectation? I think way too much responsibility is placed on this magic thing called the "AMA" (whoever people believe it to be) to do things that we in our local communities should be doing and helping ourselves.
I know fields are lost for many reasons, but when people say it was the "AMA's fault" then it's you and I that are to blamed because WE are the AMA.
