What time is the best to join the AMA?
I have been flying park and slope for a couple of years now, since I was in High Desert of California I was able to skirt around the many flying sites (My Back Yard) that didn't require a membership and there was nobody around to hit that would sue me.
I recently moved back home to Washington State, and it is very difficult to find flying sites here, so I am about to Join a Flying club nearby and of course you have to be an AMA member.
What is the best way to do this?

First, I recommend you find a club that you'd like to join, then get AMA and join the club.
I looked up your zip code, and found out you have many clubs to choose from.

Try looking around there. Being on Lake Stevens, you may discover there are some float plane flyers around you.
There's one in Marysville, Everett, Granite Falls, Arlington, Monroe, Snohomish, then they kinda get really far away. Those are all AMA chartered clubs.
I've been to the one in Snohomish, it's not bad. Doesn't have a great flying site, but it serves it's purpose fine for most people.
I fly at Marymoor regularly, and 60 Acres flying field (not actually 60 acres... but the soccer fields off to the side are).

Actually that is a personal choice. If you join and remain a member it always works out to annual dues. As one that has over 50 years continuous and now a Lifer, I don't make such choices.
