Default Clear out and Clean out the AMA Forums?

I think what this forum needs is a fresh start! I think every single post should be wiped out of here, and everybody start back off on a better foot instead of carrying grudges from thread to thread, and linking back to old threads to old arguements. Everybody has stuck there foot in there mouth a time or to in the AMA Forum(I know I have), and I think it is about time we all just shake hands, scratch the old arguements and get down to having some good solid adult like conversations regarding the organization that most of us who post here belong to. We all share at least one thing in common, and that is our passion for Model Aviation. Lets begin anew, and set a better example for those who may looking at us and wondering , or looking for some thoughtfull answers to what AMA is about. I may be the extreme minority here, but I am starting a poll to see what other people think about wiping the slate clean. If we can do something about turning this forum around to the good, then I think we can put our heads together find solutions(good suggestions) for any AMA issues that arise, and may be of concern to some members. There are millions of forums where a person can go just to argue for the sake of arguing, but lets not continue to do it here on RCU in the AMA Forums. Good honest debating is one thing, but getting personal over ones honest opinions is not right. We all should have a say, but lets say what we have to say in a way that is honest, thoughtful , and respectful to those we are debating with. I really am interested in the AMA, and the things that it does. If the AMA means anything to you than post whatever is on your mind, but if you come to the AMA forums just to bicker and stir things up, PLEASE find some other place besides RCU to do it.

Let's just create 2 AMA forums, one for the northern states and one for the southern, that should fix it.

What an intriguing post. Should I pull from a past thread to reply? Nope.

I don't know about wiping the past log out, but this forum needs help. Whether it be better mods, or no AMA forum, this forum needs something. It might be getting what it needs as I'm not in here all day. However, this is pretty much the only forum that arguing is allowed. Maybe a debate forum would work and if a thread in this forum starts really getting off topic,(like most do) it could be moved there. I guess some of the old threads I enjoy rereading. (like this one: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_33..._1/key_/tm.htm )

Maybe the real question is if wiping out all the old threads will help any. IMHO, I doubt it. However, when arguing with STL, it's kindda hard to not want to pull up old threads for use in destroying his current argument with his past words and actions.(I have plenty of examples, but I don't know if I will ever be able to use them)

Who knows, everyone who comes to this forum often enough knows what everyone has done in the past and they will probably not let it slip through still.

My first question is what are you trying to hide? I have just gotten to the point where I look at the originator or the last poster and decide weather or not to look at it. Sadly there are three different guys who are not blocked but are not looked at either. [:'(] And I may be on someone elses radar just the same but if you are not capable of living with your words feel free to go back and edit and apologise.

I didn't vote because I don't like the choices.[8D]

Me too.

STL, I dunno what's with you and this north/south thing; but you want to know the REAL difference between northerners and southerners?

Southerners are generally too polite to tell notherners what we really think of them.

As for clearing out this forum; it would save some bandwidth... for a while. Looks to me like the "regulars" here live and breathe for acrimony. Any armistice would be short-lived...

It would likely turn out like the bombing halts during the little thing in S.E. Asia a while back. Just give everyone time to get their razor edged tongues sharpened, and the flaming torches all fired up.

If that's what you think, take some positive action and get it done. Ask Marc to start a new forum, and if he agrees you'll get a vastly more accurate response from that than from any poll. People will join in that forum and this one will die, or they won't and it won't.

It's pretty much like asking if a new organization would be better than AMA.

It really is not about trying to hide anything. I am usually pretty easy to get along with, and I try to make my opinions without forcing them on anyone. You can read my 1400 post, and I think you will find that I am pretty easy going, and mainly just like to gab about Model Airplanes with the fine folks here on RCU. Occasionally Hoss will get me riled up a bit, but I was on Hoss's side during his run for EVP, and I tend to agree with some of his points more than I disagree. I hold no ill will towards anyone here. My idea to clean the AMA Forum is simply that I would like to see this forum become a better resource or FAQ regarding AMA. There is no north and south to me! Just various AMA Members from various parts of the U.S who belong to the same organization and should find better ways to express opinions, and show respect towards one another. It is so easy to sit on a keyboard and degrade someone you do not know personally, try and make them feel inferior, or make some snide remark about where someone else calls home. I would like to think that most of us would probally get along fine if we all belonged to the same Flying Club, and we would probally express ourselves a bit differently towards one another. It all boils down to that I really do care about the directions that this hobby takes, and if I see something that kind of looks like a stain on the hobby IMO, I would like to try and do something to change it. I view this forum as something that could have been good, but has fallen to something very ugly and unbecomming for people who share a common interest. If this was a sailing ship, a mutiny would have occurred shortly after setting to sea, and the captain and first mates would have done walked the plank. Where we really screwed up was that the ones who walked the plank were the only ones who knew how to read a compass!

I don't really view it as my decision to make, and I have no magical mod powers to do anything about it. I will live with it just the way it is if this is how people really like it. I basically just wanted to throw the idea out, and let people talk about it. The mods may or may not do anything based on the talk here, but it is my own opinion that things should and could be improved here in the AMA Forum.

A new organization other than the AMA would also be a good thing IMO. I believe choice and competition force organizations and business to work harder for there members or employees. That is another discussion though.

Exactly, they just tell us what they think instead. This has nothing to do with Northerners and Southerners towards each other, it just seems like most the pro AMA'ers are people from the North and anti AMA'ers are people from the South. It's just an observation of course.

I have ate Texas Barbecue on the River Walk in San Antonio, I helped drill for oil in Elk City Oklahoma, I got to see Dolly in the great state of Tennessee last year, my brother brought me back a Virginia baked Ham from Winchester Virginia, I have spent days laying on the beach in Daytona Florida, fishing in Wisconsin, and enjoying the sites within my own state of Illinois. You know what I found out about North an South? It's all good!

How I usually rate a State is by how good the food was when I was there. There was this place in Clarksville Tenneesee that I stopped at one time several years ago. I can't remeber the name of the place, but I will always remember the meal I had there. Every bite was just sheer joy! My brother brought me back the Ham from Virginia as kind of a joke. Where I live we are surrounded by thousands of acres of corn, and hundreds of hog lots. He said it was funny that Virginia could smoke a better Ham than what we could in Hog Country. Boy was he right! That was some ham!

your talking about bored adults here, premaddonas to boot. This Utopian view would be nice. but fat chance. there is definitely the group that praises everything the AMA does and there those that piss on em every chance they get. either way their going to fling it every chance they get. I don't really have problem with the ama. they do need to get off their bums a little more. too me the AMA is just a black hole I send a check to every year. I will never hear anything from them about what going on around here. hell I finally got a MA magazine. I missed the last 3-4. I e-mailed em there only response was check your mail service. sorry I'm not in the middle of no were or in the middle of a huge metropolis. we don't have many mail problems here. well that Goleta shooting screwed things up for week but once in 10 yrs is pretty good in my book.

I don't really expect everyone to just get along splendid. If there is a AMA issue that is debatable then I am all for good healthy debate. Its when people take it personal and begin assasinating the other peoples character just because they have a different view, and that is really uncalled for. I don't really expect people to go back and retract comments allready made as most people probally stand by there comments. What would be easy to do though, and make this forum so much better is just leave the personal attacks out from here on out, and start with a fresh slate to benefit new readers and posters! Debate issues till your fingers are numb from typing, but leave the personal attacks out! I have made a few myself, but what I am willing to say is that from here on out I will try harder to be a better listner, and be more respectful towards other points of view. This does not mean that I have to agree! It just means that I am going to refrain from making it a personal thing.

The decision wouldn't be up to you or the mods, but rather RCUAdmin. As you said and I agree, choice is a good thing, and if you convinced Marc to start another forum then there would be a choice, and one with much more impact than selecting from choices in a poll. Your asking, whether or not you get a positive response that starts a new forum, doesn't force anything on anybody so I can't see any reasonable objection to your idea. It might be a winner and there is no loss to anybody if it flies, so why not?

Not to put down your poll, btw. It may provide some indication to you as to whether or not another forum is worth your effort to pursue.

I am not sure what the solution is, but maybe something like a forum for each AMA district might work well. Then people would basically be commenting on issues that are effecting there own district. It would be easy to spot a Troll that way if a person was just jumping from district forum to district forum to try and stir things up. People might also be more apt to be friendlier to those people they are debating within there own district. Just throwing around some ideas.

Unfortunately, we don't get a good chance to smoke them very often, but right now, we've got a major fire going. Bring your own pig.(jk)
