ENOUGH already.
It's NICE for YOU that you live near a DRY LAKE BED and can fly anyplace you want. Unfortunately, myself and many others live SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES from any DRY LAKE BED MODEL AIRPLANE PARADISE and fly off of pretty tenuous spots that can be lost at any moment, like the field where I am going today, just down the road from Giants Stadium, in New Jersey, stuck between a wildlife preserve and factories, that we don't own and could lose any moment. Nice to know that YOU don't need a stupid stinking club or any stupid rules, but WE DO, in order to keep what little we have.
Also, I don't think you have been in this hobby that long, have you? Probably not long enough to have lost a really nice airplane to some other idiot switching on his transmitter. THEN you start to appreciate a more organized club environment. Or you have not been scared by an airplane zooming BEHIND you while you are trying to fly...you know, little things like an organzed flightline that come with a club. On and on and on...
At any rate, whoopie for you, you have a dry lake bed, you can do whatever you want.
The rest of us can't so stop disparaging clubs and all these other people, I think you need to mature a little and then see why most people do belong to a club and enjoy it. Are there sucky clubs? Hell yes. But the vast majority of them are great.

Seems you might agree with him if you didn't live in the armpit of the country. Hope you can find more time to go to your upstate retreat.

I wanna know where the 1897 TOC was held.
It was canceled due to rain and wind at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. I was the only one to show up so I won.
Here's a pic of me four years ago and a pic of my winning plane. The pic of my plane is a post-crash pic( I recently had it colorized).Woops

Wow I got my own post. I feel so important now. NOT There is a fine line between rules and rule making. We have rules, but not enough to take a fun hobby and turn it into a chore. What ever happened to the fun aspect. I am merely pointing out the fact that you dont need rulers, which it is unfortunate to say most clubs think they are. Rules are important, and we do have them, but we aren't willing to loose what little we have due to the fact that we can't lay off the rule making. There are some great clubs out there, I know that for fact. But unfortunately there are more that aren't good. I say we promote this hobby and get more people involved so clubs dont have to struggle to make ends meet and keep what little they have. So if you have a problem with me pointing things out then don't tell me about struggling clubs that only have so much space. Of course a soccer mom is going to forget about RC clubs when their child comes back from the field with the Dad and a wrecked airplane cause someone was too busy having coffee, or a plane that saw no air time because they weren't part of the "group". I know not everyone has tons of space in the places they live. Heck alot of places have to use a shoe horn to get any more people in there. I guess tryin to get people thinking and trying new things and doing more to promote the hobby, and find and aquire places to fly is out of the question on here. Sorry if I burst anyones bubble but all the doom and gloom that is all over RC Universe gets old. If i can point something out or bring out a new idea in someone somewhere then I'm happy. That's all its about. Dreams are the stuff reality is made of, but only if you are willing to chase them.

Do you understand that your average schmoe flying a 40 sized airplane probably has NO place to fly except a local club? Can't take off from unmowed fields, and the Wal-mart parking lot is not safe, too many lights, and most properties, sooner or later...they get kicked off.
Dry lake beds are pretty damned rare. So count your blessings, and quit slagging off on the rest of the world and telling them what morons they are for joining clubs, because they probably NEEDED to if they wanted to fly. Yeah, you can always move to park flyers, but they are pretty boring to a lot of us.

And I DON'T think MOST clubs are run poorly, with nasty "rules" and such. It has been my experience that the vast, overwhelming majority of clubs are run very well in a very low key fashion...it's the nasty ones that get all the attention. "Everything Fine In Mudville Today" is not news, nobody posts about that. They post about PROBLEMS.
Hey, if you have been to three different clubs, and found them all problematic, have you considered the problem might be YOU?

I've checked on cowboywhatever's posts and most of them are rants about clubs and the AMA. From what I gather he is rather new to the R/C hobby. I've seen this kind come and go. Cowboy Good Luck, watch out for snakes and drink pelenty of water. The sheep / sex come back was rather funny. Thanks for the fun. Mike

Would you please explain that remark, ET?
Is it something like your obsession with those NY Politicians such as Hillary, Shumer and your own Sheldon "Hug-a-Thug" Silver and alleged protection of child-molesters?
So, ET, spill it out Manhattan style. Oh, that is what you do when anyone asks you a question, isn't it? Simply ignore it.
Get help before it's too late. OOPs, another slip -- it's far too late for you.

Knowing your love for libs, this one's for you:
"We can't expect the American people to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, ubtil they awaken one day to find that they have Communism." - Nikita Krushchev
