Default AMA insurance?

I fly in South GA mostly on sod farms. There aren't any clubs within driving distance. Am I correct in assuming that an AMA membership won't do me any good as far as insurance goes? Thanks.

No, sir, you are not correct.

So long as you are not violating the AMA safety code you are covered anywhere you fly.

You may be a heck of a fighter,
. But you still need the underwriter.

Bill.

he also needs to have landowner permission to be flying there, or it is considered tresspass, and the ins is null and void.

since you don't fly at any ama fields anyway, the insurance isn't a big deal since your homeowner insurance covers it first anyway.

I don't really know but I was thinking that my homeowner's wouldn't pay much compared to what AMA would pay if I were covered.

Exactly. Most homeowner's insurance will only pay a few hundred thousand, IF AND ONLY IF they actually cover you flying an R/C airplane on someone else's property. Check your homeowner's policy first and make sure before flying. Many don't cover R/C.

IIRC, the AMA's coverage is $1 million for individuals, but only if you aren't tresspassing or flying in an unsafe manner, i.e. not following the AMA safety code.

But then, the AMA isn't just insurance.

Actually it is 2.5 mil.

UMA provides a 1 Mil. policy of PRIMARY Insurance. For the smaller sport club, and for the individual that just wants insurance, not in an AMA only situation, the UMA is looking better and better.

Yes, Horace, but wouldn't it be nice if AMA recognized UMA? UMA does recognize AMA.

Yes insurance counts,
. We need large amounts.

Default AMA insurance?

I tried to get a semi-definitive answer from the docs at the AMA website, but I'm having trouble downloading the .pdf file on insurance.

I'm starting to fly an r/c floatplane on a (county-owned) public lake. Does the AMA insurance cover this, and do I need permission (written??) to fly from a public lake?

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I got permission to fly today at a sod farm about 8 miles from my house and between home and work

Up until now I was flying at one about 26 miles away, and I had permission, but it was through a friend, who doesn't fly much anymore. This time I talked face to face, and may have stirred some new interest in our hobby as well. You guys will never get me to shut up now. For the past 5? years I've felt like I've been holding back on acount of having somewhere to fly. Anyways, it's time to really consider a membership.

What is UMA? And would it be better for me? Is it accepted at AMA chartered fields?

UMA sells insurance for $38.
their website is http://www.unitedmodelers.com/

The AMA is an organization of modelers that happens to cover you with insurance. If you think the future may hold flying with several people, you can form an AMA club and get insurance to cover the club and the landlord for liability, as well as sanctioned competition. The cost of AMA membership is $58. Take a look at the services they offer at http://www.modelaircraft.org/templates/ama/

You have to decide if the additional services and support are worth the additional $20 to you.
