You are an AMA Vice President (VP). What is your main priority? Is it the administrative area or the operational realm? Certainly, we each have our own ideas about what should be pursued and accomplished. All ideas are welcome.
As your AMA District VP, I will communicate with you concerning the affairs of the AMA and the Executive Council. I will welcome your inputs regardless of the pro or con that you may present. Agree or disagree, my door will always be open.
If you elect me, I will bring forty years of experience in AMA business, including previously a VP from District VI. I was once an active CL and FF modeler. While I have flown mostly RC since 1973, I do keep my hand in CL sport.
While many current modelers think of AMA only in insurance terms, I think of AMA as a service organization charged to assure a secure future for this world of model aviation. AMA cannot be all things to all people, yet AMA can provide much more than insurance.
Any activity needs organization to focus the goals of the group. Model airplane people need Flying-Sites and public acceptance. AMA needs to be very proactive in establishing the worth of model aviation as a recreation, sport, a competition, and/or a very worthwhile activity. Only through national recognition can the required facilities be acquired and maintained.
As your District VP, I will pursue these goals. Evidence the Jetero RC facility near Houston.
Vote for Flying Fields and national recognition. Elect Horrace Cain to AMA District VIII Vice President.

Overspace extra: I am a native of Polk County, Texas, a veteran of the USAF, 13 years and retired from United Airlines, 28 years.

On the left doing a buddy box.

Horrace

Having had previous conversations with you, I have my doubts about you being open to any form of opposition, nor do I believe that will consider anything other than your own opinion,

perhaps you should revisit the thread titled and authored by you concerning paid instructors ,if you have forgotten the approach taken by you, be assured that I have not!!!!!!!

Highlander

opposed to Horace Cain for any office and voiceing it at every opportunity !!!!!!!

Just reread all 6 pages. Seems like my proposal for Individual/Club Optional Choices reference the AMA's insurance coverage of a club having paid instructors ("Request forwarded to AMA EC," 4/29/03) could NOT be explained to you by a number of others including Pinball, D. Bowles, Crashem, and IFLYJ3.
Other than your final leaning to a test program would you concede allowing OTHERS to have a CHOICE OF THEIR OWN.
Yes, Mr. highlander, I do stand by as much personal FREEDOM of CHOICE that I can, such freedom that does no one else any harm, even when it sometimes goes against my personal grain.
That will not change regardless of politics. I have spent a lot of my allotted life time to assist in retaining personal freedoms.

Thank you for extending me a very good opportunity to add that note to my campaign.

Horrace,

Explained or pushed down my throat, depends on how you view it, does'nt it ?

but the tread content was not what was intended for you to find ,but rather your approach to opposition, when opposed your tendancy toward ridicule and demeaning of the character of the one who is opposed is my point , and has no place in leadership of an organization who's crossection of people will be the ones who face your rath from disagreement,

Nor does this approach lend itself readily for input from those whom you would serve in that position, notice I said (SERVE) not force into submission ,not demean , nor ridicule , I just dont think that you are one who can SERVE the people, I think if you cant control you wont play, Just my opinion, and one I am not shy to share.

Yep, it's a bummer when that happens. 5 to 1 is a bit much.
I got a chunk of that last year. But like you, Highlander, I plug on regardless of the odds.

We will survive. OOPS, there I go again. You can survive as you so care. I will survive.

Default I few questions for Mr. Cain

1. How are you going to assist in the retention and acquisition of flying sites for the clubs in D8.

2. How are you going to improve on the soon to be former vice-presidents column in Model Aviation. I would hope to see you at more of the local areas events. I have visited and participated in Jetero's events , but have yet to see you at many other local clubs events.

3. What ideas can you provide to help more AMA members become more proactive within the hobby? We all know it's just a few core members like ourselves who dedicate their time and effort to keep a club functioning.

4. Are you going to lead by example? If so, Hopefully you set a better example than some of the petty bickering I have witnessed throughout both forums and newsgroups the last few years that I have been watching.

5. What are your priorities for D-8? You have provided a very vague/non-existent explanation on how you are going to accomplish the goals mentioned below.

Thanks for your time.

Agreed. Ask around about Horrace's previous unfinished tenure on the EC. No reason to beleive that he would not bail out a second time halfway through his duties when he did not get his way every time. Horrace was elected once, it was a disaster for us AMA members, and nothing about him has changed since, if anything, it's worse.

I few questions for Mr. Cain (post # 6)

1. How are you going to assist in the retention and acquisition of flying sites for the clubs in D8.
<<<<<<<<<<<<

In the same manner that I will be working to get AMA (spelled AMA EC) to move toward national recognition of model aviation as a worthwhile recreational hobby and sport.
For sure you have read the work bringing national recognition to RC as presented in the Sep. '03 issue of RCM, pages 8 - 12. National recognition does filter down to local political levels. Have you ever encountered anyone that failed to understand the terms, "Little League", soccer, football, etc., etc.?
In this objective -- flying sites -- whatever is good for AMA on a national level will also be good for District VIII.

>>>>>>>>>>..

2. How are you going to improve on the soon to be former vice-presidents column in Model Aviation.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Make it easier for you to submit your information.

Include my PERSPECTIVES of AMA business for your information and discussion.

>>>>>>>>>>>
I would hope to see you at more of the local areas events. I have visited and participated in Jetero's events , but have yet to see you at many other local clubs events.
<<<<<<<<<<<

Haven't had the need so far. Have been seen at Livingston ARFs, Bomber Field, and Bayport.
OTOH the district will become "Local" and the visiting will be spread out, even more numerous. Already farming out the contests that I usually CD. More to come as needed.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
3. What ideas can you provide to help more AMA members become more proactive within the hobby? We all know it's just a few core members like ourselves who dedicate their time and effort to keep a club functioning.
<<<<<<<<<<<

Thank you, but let me assure that I am NOT God.
I do pray however that God grant me the ability to change that which I can and give me wisdom to know the difference between that which I cannot change and that which I can. The first thing I would change if I could would be to get more members to at least vote. I can't do that so my efforts will not be directed there.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
4. Are you going to lead by example? If so, Hopefully you set a better example than some of the petty bickering I have witnessed throughout both forums and newsgroups the last few years that I have been watching.
<<<<<<<<<<<

You will have to answer that question for yourself. I state my main objectives and those are where my main efforts will be directed. As stated above ref. the MA column, you will know what I am doing or trying to do. In addition, inputs will be welcome.

As the title of this thread states, "1560 characters including spaces." That is all that AMA allows for a potential AMA EC VP to use in one issue of "Model Aviation".Rather a small space for a detailed plan, don't you think?

That is nothing considering the incumbent has a whole page each month to advertise over and over.
Now look at the numbers that use this specific AMA forum as compared to the IMAC and Clubhouse. Doesn't take an I.Q. much over about 80 to figure where the interest is.

Actually whatever good I can do will be aimed mostly at AMA overall. As stated above whatever serves AMA will serve District VIII.
BTW have you read the definition of an AMA VP in the AMA Bylaws? Very interesting as the DVP is not charged with "representing the membership to AMA," as many would believe, but actually more so in the reverse, the AMA to the membership, Article X, Section 5.

While not mentioned herein, I will mention that I am sorely against the looonnngggg, and IMO, ludicrous overly managed "Safety Code" and I will labor to keep new non-essential rules left out and a number removed. You will always be advised of any progress and/or obstacles in that particular course.

Thank you for your interest and the questions. See you at SWAC.

Horrace,

Let me be the first to welcome my freindly snowbird back.

Has Sandy ever responded to your question about a debate or is he also still playing the snowbird card?

Hey, is he advertising himself or SWAC in his column? By the way, who is paying for that ad in his column for the privately owned show?

Thank you, Jim.

Haven't heard anything from Sandy, however, just in the wee hours of this AM, I reopened my email to accepting such.

In my opinion, Sandy is taking full advantage of the opportunity to use the MA column and the Dist. 8 website for his campaign. Of course, I would do the same thing, so more power to Sandy.

How has the traffic been on the D-8 email lists? Since I am not allowed there by one-owner B. Lee, and I no longer have a mole, I don't know about that avenue for *poli-ticking.*

I have no idea to the finances of the SWAC, however Sandy always gives AMA some bucks, so IMO, he has done a very fine thing. So what if he is using his VP position to promote a commercial interest? It is good for the hobby/sport and yet, I wonder if he loses this election what will happen to the show.
While Sandy and I have our political differences, SWAC is definitely NOT one of them for me.

See you there.

Well, ET, the subject has been discussed somewhere along these forums. You can look it up if you wish.

As usual, your knowledge of history is less than perfect.

>>>>>>>"Horrace was elected once, it was a disaster for us AMA members, and nothing about him has changed since, if anything, it's worse."<<<<<<<<<<

Actually I was elected TWICE, the second time being by WRITE-IN.
It seems, ET, that there are some that disagree with you.

I must say "Thanks to you" for believing that I had the power to enable a disaster for all AMA members. Was that my initiating the action of enabling the Chairman of the Freq. Committee to obtain the FCC's final release of the 50 freqs. still in use today, or is there something else that you may have in mind?

Since you lack the character and intestinal fortitude to stand up and be counted as a real person, therefore I will just ask you if you might be one of those AVPs that got fired for simply using the title and not doing anything for that title. You do sound a bit bitter for reasons known only to yourself.

Yep, ET, you just might be correct. I just might be worse, especially for those that crawl under the rock and strike simply to exercise their tongue.

As good ol' LeMay told us SAC Bomber crews, "Don't bother me with your problems, just show me the results." As a District VP, I will show you RESULTS.

An astounding piece of revisionist history. According to all the people that were THERE, the story is completely, totally different.
And your departure from the EC was not amicable, and not due to any work related move.
But hey, I am not worried that you will ever get re-elected again. You got stomped in the last election, and you'll get stomped again. The public is not that stupid, and they can read between the lines that you are just grinding some personal axe, nothing more.
Besides, we were once bitten, now twice shy.
