I am looking at the ESM P-47 as was wondering if anyone has some input on it, the good, bad and the ugly..</p>
I am a builder by heart and have some warbirds on the table, but this looks like a nice plane for me and my 10 year old son to put together. If itflies as good as it looks, it should be a good every day type plane. At $299.00 seems well priced.</p><font size="2"><span lang="EN">
Also, how are the retracts that they offer for it, they look nice and with the wheels, it is a pretty good deal @ $139.00 compared to other options.</p><font size="2"><span lang="EN">
Last one, if I go with this plane I was thinking of trying one of the 26cc motors that they offer.. Anyone ever use one, are they any good? My thought behind the 26cc gasser is it could be used on another project down the road, a B-25 to be exact not sure what one yet…</p>
But any way, $169.00 seems pretty cheap to me for a motor like this. I watched the vid and it looked like it had some power..</p><font size="2"><span lang="EN">
This one is the same price and a little more horse power, but only a 1 year warranty verse a 2 year on the other.. Sure would like some feed back on these. .</p><font size="2"><span lang="EN">
Thanks for any info on this stuff, with being out of the hobby for awhile, it’s nice to have a place to discuss some of the stuff out there now days.. Happy new year!

The plane when assembled will look scale however your wing loading will be exceptionally high. The retracts are junk. The engine will fly the model just barely, you need at least 30cc. I built there FW190 which is very close in dimension to the P-47.

If you have any questions regarding the plane, retracts, or engines please drop us a line, we will gladly help you out. As for the retracts, I find them to be quality for the price. The biggest issue with them is the air valve, we recommend customers replace these valves with a quality valve like that of a robarts, or you can disassemble the valve, check for any burrs/metal shavings and check to ensure the o rings on the valve are still solid.
If you run into leaks with the gear, they can all be fixed, a little oil goes a long way with these o-rings. If oil will not solve your issue, all of the o-rings in the system are user serviceable. If you still cannot solve an issue, give us a call and I can either help you through it, or you can send them in and we can try and solve the problem for you.
As for engine choices, the aerovate is a good little engine, and most of our customers have been very happy with the dle 30's performance. If you have any questions regarding this, or any other esm planes please feel free to drop us a line.

Speaking of the air valve , I did have to prevent the valve from going all the way to one end, because if it did, when the opposite operation was commanded all of the air would leak out with no action. I put an adjustable screw on the strut as a stop in the up position. It now locks in the down position, but not in the up, which is ok with me.

For the asking price, you get what you paid for. The air cyclinders and valve both leak air. The "O" rings in the cyclinders are the incorrect ID. This also applies to the "O" ring in the control valve. The machning of the retract assembly allowed lateral and linear motion of the strut assembly. This provided a large tracking error to develope during takeoff and landing. They sure look pretty but I ennded up replacing them with "Sierra" retracts.
