Hi Guys,
Just got a new H9 80" cub. I haven't assembled it yet but am wondering about the engine installation orientation. H9's way will result in a large chunk of cowl that has to be cut. Im thinking either horizontal or vertical. I am running a Mag .61 4c.
How did u guys mount your engines?
Thanks!

I have both versions. The old 80" with the one piece wing and the new one with the two piece wing. I assume you have the one with the two piece wing. Mine came with an Evolution 46 because it was the Plug and Play version and the engine was installed so that the cylinder head was pointing down at a 45 degree angle. When I installed the Saito 72 to replace the Evolution I left the motor mount in the same location. Yes there is a large amount of the cowl that had to be cut away and probably more so on mine because it was already cut for another engine. I think it looks o.k. but that's just me. If I can find a pic on my mac I'll post it for you. The engine on my old Cub is mounted at a 90 degree angle .

I assembled one with an OS70FS 4-stroke. Mounted inverted with an OS 90-degree (in cowl) muffler extesion so that the muffler was on the underside of the fuselage. Thought it looked much better than the H9 orientation which is really set up for a 2-stroke engine. Definitely looks more scale. The engine runs fine inverted; no problem with siphoning, etc. Flew it both on wheels and floats; no problems with either. Sold it recently to a fellow club member who is enjoying the heck out of it like I did.

Thanks guys for the replies. I ended up fitting the engine vertical and letting the muffler hang out of the cowl (couldn't find a 90 deg bend). I think it looks pretty good and it didn't take a lot of cowl cutting like this. Danflyrc, how much cooling did you give your OS? I just opened up the scale oil cooler location on the cowl. Will this be enough or do I need more?

I did the same and had no problems; just opened up the scale oil cooler location. The top hallf or so of the valve cover on the OS70FS stuck out the bottom of cowl. I had the bottom of the cowl pretty open since I had the muffler exiting out the bottom as well; plenty of exit area.

This place sells a cowl for the H9 Cub. It does not have the dummy engines molded in to it. It gives you more options for cutting.
