ORIGINAL: DMAYLE

Here we go - I used 1/16 balsa sheeting on the tail surfaces after sanding the original block surfaces to the air foil. I also added the counterbalances on the elevators (reinforced with 1/32 ply). I removed the cap strips from the wings and used 1/32 balsa sheeting. I found several of the wing ribs unglued from the factory and took the time to repair and reinforce the wing. I also air foiled the ailerons and flaps. I based the cockpit on the dimensions shown on the RV website - it's not perfect, but closer to the real plane. I don't have any photos of the DLE install but will take a few photos and post later today for you. The plane is covered in Ultracote. I had a local automotive paint store match the red ($26 for the spray can) and the white is Krylon. I appreciate your comments - thank you!

Wow.. She is Sexy.. Wish Ihad some painting skills of ANYkind..lol. Would love to do the same thing in a Metalic like Candy Apple Red or a Metalic Navy Blue..
Very Impressive..

Here's the wildest paint scheme I've ever seen on an RV.

This is not wild, but it has over 1,400 hours! I liked the color, easy to replicate in a model. The day I have to strip my GP I might go this way using real Ultracote:-)

yeah i flew my RV-4 yesterday and apparently the fuel tank had a leak because the inside of the fuselage was covered in glow fuel...anyone got any good ideas onhow to remove the glow fuel from the wood besides the obvious paper towels and heat gun?

K2R is the best stuff i have used to get fuel out of wood. Sometimes it takes several applications to complete the job. Spray it, let dry, clean it up and spray again, you will be able to tell when it has soaked up all the fuel. You may be able to pick this up at a local store such as Walmart. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BQWN08/...SIN=B000BQWN08

Awesome, I will give it a shot. Nitro can weaken the balsa if left

Thanks for that info. Your RV is absolutely beautiful and well worth the effort, I'd say. My RV will go under the knife as soon as I finish a couple of other projects. I always wanted a unique RV-4, but I like the GP RV-4 60 ARF because it flies so well and has quality parts and construction.

kitty litter work great and you can try baby power or foot powder for those hard to reach parts I let it sit over night and just blow it out

Be careful with that though as it will turn into like a paste..lol.

And yes the GPRV-4 is the best plane, as Ihave said before there is nothing better then a plane that flies like stink and does so much Aerobatics yet you can land her with your eyes closed.. As being newish to aerobatics and this will be My first year doin Competition Flying, she is the PERFECT starter for it all.. Love No Wing stalls or anything like that during a landing.

My only complaint is the the Wheel Pants.. Mine are just screwed up, well one of em, Just from a taxi on hard grass cause of it being almost frozen from the cold the night before and not having any knowledge at all with fiberglass and living in a Condo so no place to do all that aside from My Planeroom/Spare bedroom..lol. Can Ispread some 30 minEpoxy in there to firm it up? Its just so crappy in there and so soft behind the bottom of the wheel, just feels like egg shells.

RYE, Got my GPRV-4 yesterday, would you reccomend using duel servos for the rudder as it calls for one. I'll be installing a os 120 4c, I'll be using hitec 635-hb servos they have 69oz torque.Alsodo you know if thats a 14 or 16oz tank that came with the kit. thanks Tim.

I'm running a single hs475hb on the rudder and it's been fine. I have one hs225bb on each elevator half, mounted in the tail. 4 hs425bb's in the wings rounds it out. This combo was fine with a Saito 180, and so far has been OK with a DLE30. Everything was mounted as far aft as possible, requiring NO tail weight. The stock tank in mine and a buddy's was crap, so I would advise replacing it with a DuBro or Hayes. 16 oz. should be OK with a 1.20 4-stroke.

I second that, the stock fuel tank will eventually fail..just like mine just did. The stopper is not up to par.

Well Im not Rye but Iinstalled a Dubro16oz tank in Mine as the one it comes with is crap and I think is a 12 oz, all I had to do was alil shaving and as far as the rudder goes Ihave 1 Futaba servo running it and its 100% fine and handles knife edges and My Nifty Aileron/rudder rolls just fine. This plane is built very well so dont over think it. You will be shocked on how well it holds up to things you do without fail.

Iwill say this and its VERYIMPORTANT!!
Make an extra screw hole for the back tip of wing with nylon bolt as after a while of intense flyingthe lil lineup dowelwill break, so do yourself a favor and doit now while you are building. Just copy the front one.

Ace hardware also carries K2R.

I have been flying mine for 3 years and have no issue's except a bad spinner ( out of balance) still using the same fuel tank although I never use stock stopper I always use sullivan, and no problems with wing dowel, wonder if they have changed manufacture or cut some corners somewhere. I remember the only problem with the build was the horz. stab was off and had to sand the fuse to get the stab paraell with the wing, a sweet flying plane also love the flaps it really slows it down for landings.......dan

Not sure but the wing thing is a big issue, 4 people I know plus Me have had the issue but think they are newer then 3 years so maybe is something newer..

Ihave never used a stock tank, Ialways go bigger. Look for the Biggest tank Ican fit in the plane as Ilike to fly for 15-20 min. Have a Cub with a 20oz tank, takes up wholefront fuze and was lots of time ofprecise shaving andcuttingbut man can Iget some stick time on her. lol.
