Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

I need to know the entire length of the plane. I am going to order one if it will fit in my truck. The two piece wing is not an issue. The spec's state 74'' long, but is this the entire length from spinner to tip of rudder. I dont have alot of room to play with here so I really need an actual measurement. Thanks .....Dave

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

74" is an accurate measurement. Tip of the spinner to the trailing edge of the rudder.

Have fun.

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

Hey great thanks, looks like I have to give dpm a call in the morning. Ordered a zdz 40 for it today through rcshowcase but wont ship until mid may. I have read through alot of post here on both plane and engine, sounds like a winner. Will let all know how it turns out but it be awhile. Thanks again, Dave

Default DP product support ?????????????

As far as the product goes it is very well built for an AFR. Now if you were to ask about support and the availability of parts.........well just pray you don't need any. I'm still waiting for another new canopy. The first replacement they sent I refused delivery because the box was badly crushed do to poor packaging and partly due to the gentle handling by UPS. I did open it before I refused it and the canopy was packed so poorly it was a joke. It was damaged worst than the original one.

Then I made the mistake of calling DP on the phone and letting them know what happened. She felt I should have accepted the carton and filed a claim. When I tried to explain that it was her responsibility to place the claim since she is the shipper, she became short with me. I then promptly explained to her that the responsibility of packaging was hers, the shipper and wished her good luck with filing a claim with UPS. She better hope they don't ask my opinion. Let’s just say I will never own another DP product again. They do not do the volume, don’t stock more than one replacement part, rarely answer the phone, never return phone messages, never return email messages, and generally conduct business in a poor manor. This has been my personal experience with this company and JMHO.

Default DPM

Tell me about it! The plane is the best plane I have flown,I've been flying for Quite a long time... I've been waiting for a replacement fuse since the WRAM show in Feb. Dave told me 5-6 weeks,YEA RIGHT!! It's almost May. The same thing I called her she gave me nothing but attitude..They keep bare minimum in stock. I'm glad my fuse failed late in the flying season..I hope this time I get at least 2dozen flights on it . It's going to be hard to by another product from them again... My LHS tried to get more glue from them, they had more excuses. She bought another product...

PEACE OUT

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

Well then, what would you people suggest I do? I have read all the reviews and this seems like a great plane. I have allready ordered the zdz40, props, exhuast, servo's, all gas related equipment, even hunted down cf wing tube to reduce some wieght. I do need a two piece wing as space is limited for transporting. Considered the sig sukhoi but it has a one piece wing and have heard of a few troubles. What I find alarming is the post concerning customer support, I tried calling dpm for two days last week to order the plane and the phone kept ringing. Maybe I'll try chief aircraft monday. I would really like a gas plane but want something easy to fly and LAND. If you all have other ideas I'm all ears. I am limited to a plane with a overall fuse lenght of 78''. I guess if all else fails I can return all the crap I have bought and just stick with my 1.20 size glow goo planes. But that is something I really wanted to get away from. Thanks, Dave

I need a two piece wing also, check out the Lanier Cap:
http://www.lanierrc.com/lrcprivate/L.../cap232arf.htm
or the Kangke Texas Hurricane. Don't know if I'll be able to wait long enough for the Great Planes Wagstaff Extra.

Default Go with the Dave Patrick

I agree, the customer service is not great but this plane blows away the Lanier Cap as far as flyability goes. cbk

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

I'd hold out for the GP Extra. Everyone says the new Pitts they came out with is the best ARF ever. Before you think about the Lanier Cap, ask the guys who have them how they like them. Most of them are VERY unhappy.

Default Alternative to DP Extra

First of all, I love my DP Extra. I waited a LONG time to get it (first run). But it is not the only great flying plane out there. There are several coming on the market which are looking very good. The GP Extra really looks nice and we all know what great service GP offers. World Models has one that they displayed at Toledo. It will be available in three different schemes.

Bottom line - If you want a DP Extra, go through a dealer like Chief's. If you just want something similar, I would look really hard at the GP and World Models versions.

Also, you mentioned that you ordered a carbon fiber wing tube. If you havn't ordered it yet, I would hold off. The weight is not that big of a deal. I would go with the Carbon Fiber landing gear instead. The stock landing gear is made for a 11-12 lbs model and is weak under 15-16lbs.

Default Alternatives.......... Several

Lanier has a 90” Edge 540 out on the market right now and will have 10 new models out this year. The new GP Extra “Patty Wagstaff” will be out soon. There are several other to choose from but you have to look.

I’m not saying that I am unhappy with my DP Extra, it flies very well. I’m just saying that their customer service in a word, SUCKS. It does not matter what dealer you purchase the plane from, you still have to get replacement parts and warranty items direct from the horse. Unfortunately the horse in this case is an old gray nag that needs to be sent to the glue factory. There are too many other reputable companies out there producing good quality ARF planes out there to have to put up with the BS of DP. Gee does it sound like I’m a little unhappy with the treatment I’ve received so far? L K ELSEWARE!!!!

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

Point well taken. I have spoke with others over the weekend and lhs this morning. All seem to say the customer service leaves little to be desired, that is those how have had problems and needed to contact dp. Anyway, I got the green light to purchase a small enclosed trailer . Now size really DOESN'T matter !
Better get ahold of RCS cause I'm gonna need a bigger engine.
Again, Thanks for the replies.....dave

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

Would you guys be able to point me inthe direction of finding out more about the WM Extra that is coming?

And a few questions too, is it an ARF?
What size is it?
Is it made for gas?

RCpilot77084
Do you know what some of those models might be that AW has coming?

Thanks

I’m not sure of all the models Lanier RC, or AeroWorks are coming out with. Give these guys a call and I’m sure they will fill you in. All I know is that they will be ARF type aircraft. Right now you can order a 33% Edge 540T ARF from AeroWorks which they are shipping, and a 33% Extra 330L ARF which they are taking orders for. A friend flew his AeroWorks 33% Edge 540T ARF this weekend and it was great. It is powered by a 3W-100, which has plenty of power. I put the third flight on it and all I can say is I’m having a hard time keeping the Visa card at home.

If your into the kit thing you might want to check out AeroWorks and Carden Aircraft. Carden has 26%, 30%, 35%, and 40% Extra 330S kits at reasonable prices. However, their 540 Edge kits are a little on the pricey side.

As for the trailer, make sure you get a light duty axle. Tell the trailer manufacturer you will only be carrying around 150 lbs. That way they can install a light duty set of springs. The trailer will not bounce the heck out of your equipment with the light springs and it will not wonder when being towed.

Default Question for DP EXTRA owners

Thanks for the trailer tip, I will use that info for sure. I called chief aircraft today and guess what: they cannot get the extra or the ultimate AND cant get ahold of them to get get a shipping date. I asked about the AW 60/90 edge and they wont have any more for at least a month. Asked about the h9 27% cap and same story. Oh well, guess I have to wait on everyone.....Dave
