I also had to add a wheel collar on the inside part of the wheel to center the wheel so it wouldn’t rub on the pants, or are these spats?

Phoenix Models doesn't seem to put much engineering effort into their wheel pants/skirts/or spats. My Waco has issues in the same areas. On the other hand, they are a good value and fly well.

Water or wheels

They must make slightly different versions. Mine doesn’t have that wood ring to mount the cowl. It has 6 plastic bent arms that epoxy into the edges of the area around the firewall.
