RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
I just picked up a GP Ryan STA 1.20 that has never had an engine mounted in it . Although is about 2 pounds lighter I have heard good things about running a 1.20 as long as you aren't running pontoons, then they recommend a 1.50 due to drag. I think I will run the Brison 2.4 in the Waco and see what happens. It seems as though the Brison puts out more thrust and is lighter...any information of the speed and handling with this engine is appreciated.

Hi Bob-- the Brison 2.4 is a fine engine, but I don't think comparing it to a 1.20 or even a 1.5 is fair--in power or other areas. It is my personal opinion that it may be a bit big for a 1.20 airframe.
To get a better response on this question, you may try a search on the GP Ryan or start another thread. I believe most "lookers" here probably do not have first hand experience with the Ryan and that is the reason for the lack of response.

I'm sorry, I must not have made myself clear enough. I am putting the 1.20 in the Ryan and want to put the 2.4 In a 1/4scale Kangke Waco. I agree, I think the 2.4 in the Ryan would go way beyong over kill.

The Ryan has Commander floats on it and a 1.50...sorry to say that the plane shown is not mine but I do have one, just no floats as of yet. The Waco is sitting and waiting for an engine, not a money problem just don't know what to get. I love the look of the Brison 2.4 but I'm not sure about the quality now. Buteos is the family the Red tail Hawk is a member of, she is shown in my photos...I fly her when I run out of fuel for my planes If you know of anyone who has a 2.4 (Pre-Canada) for sale I would be interested. Oh, my wife was from Batavia and I lived in Fredonia....small world! Another thing....I wanted to get Waco in Cream...they no longer offer it.....one way to get the sales started then...too bad...

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
I was very happy when I found one in cream WACO. I painted the brown with Latex house paint and came out great. I have 2 Brison one I bausght last year and an older one Love them both. I know Brison is going through some changes. Haven't been paying attention to what's going on with them. Had a friend tell me about it. I will be watching the Kangke Waco planes and if I get a chance to pic up a second one for a great price I will buy it. Want to make one in Burgendy...

Kanke is pushing ZDZ engines, no mention of Brison....the same guy that first brought out the Waco on RCU placed a report on the ZDZ site. So far I have written to Kanke twice asking about products and two times I have been told they are not available.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
I just spent an hour reading a couple threads about the changes that have happened with the Brison 2.4 engine. For the most part the quality is still the same. They have gone to a syncro ignition and the carb set up is different. From what I read the midrange transiton isn't as good and getting some popping and hesatation through transition. They can be switched back to the old style but why should you have to pay to have that done. The most basic change needed is needles .... I don't work on engines and have not clue... They are being built in Cananada now. I love my Brison engines but If I had to order today I probably would go with a differnt engine.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Hey guys,
I just wanted to comment on the brison 2.4 with the new ignition. I bought my waco and brison 2.4 with the new ignition as a combo deal directly from Kangke for $699.00. They have since went up to 799.00.
As far as the engines performance goes, I couldn't be more pleased. They motor has run flawless right out of the box. I have 3 flights on it and they are no popping or hesitation and it pulls the plane vertical right on out of sight. With the pitts muffler and a ZingerPro 20x6 I'm turning nearly 7400 rpm. I could't be more pleased this this engine and plane.

Thanks Bluehawkbm, I was interested in knowing if they got the problems worked out or if I would end up with nothing but problems. Are you using the side mount or rear mount pitts muffler and does it have a smoke tap?

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Buteos,
I am running the rear mount pitts muffler and yes the muffler does have a smoke tap although I am not using it. The only problem with this muffler verses the side mount is that you do have to do some cutting on the firewall and the bottom of the plane to get it to fit. Its not bad though and the pitts muffler sounds good and is probably quieter that the side mount. The waco with this motor is a great combonation. I have not turned a screw on the motor and it runs great and starts easy. The low end is probably just a bit rich since it takes it just a few seconds to idle down but no hesitation at all when I go to full throttle. Its a smooth powerful motor. I love mine. Let me know how if you get one for your waco and how you like it. Hope I was some help.

Its too bad that you couldn't have spaced the engine out far enough to eliminate having to cut. I am waiting to hear from a person on the 2.4, he is a dealer and quoted me the old price...we will see........have any photos?

Well I fianally got a short video from this past summer... Was one of the first times using the smoke system I installed. I just haven't got it hosted yet. Tried to send it to my RCCLUB and have them host it but can't seem to get it to attach and send in email. Still working on it.

Nothing real fancy for flying.
