Hi, I'm using the stock spinner set up as well. I hope it is good. Just broke in the engine this evening and it sounds great! Biggest engine I've ever used. Maybe a Truturn would be a good alternative?

yes the truturn spinner is the best way. i lost mine the first flight. you could put a little blue lock tite on the threads of the spinner bolt. if i were you get on truturn web and look at the 3 1/4 big bird spinner. i think it will fit a prop up to a 22 or 24. thats the one i have. it works great. i think the factory spinners are ok on plane engines that dont produce alot of torqe. well good luck to you and your going to love the way the plane flys...

I used the blue lock tight as well and just tightened it without over torque-ing it. I've snapped spinner bolts in the past that way just by hand! Will get a truturn later, but spendy buggers.

Had my maiden flight today and it flies great. The 160 is a very powerful engine. Landing was tricky on the first flight. Stalled a bit and bent the landing gear. Couldn't end the day with a bad landing so took her up again and had a good flight and semi smooth landing. No crazy tricks yet as the engine is breaking in still. Fun!

a little hint on landing this plane is to keep your speed about 1/4 throttle at level flight until you are over the threshhold then cut power keeping your nose down a little picking up that little extra speed you need .then slowly start to bring your nose to flare. thats the trick. you cannot fly this plane in holding the nose up. it will stall if it doesnt have enough speed. this plane isnt like the larger 35% and bigger planes where the wing loading is lighter and you can keep the nose up and bring them in to a walk. i dont want to sound like a know it all but this is what works for me. remember keep your altitude at about 20 feet when landing. to high on your final you will come in to hot. also try a 18/8 prop. thats a great prop for that engine., good luck

How do you think a YS 140 would fly this plane. The YS 140 is has about or more power as a saito 180. I was just woundering.

not even in the same boat. the os 160 is powerhouse. the differance is like a 90 fourstroke to a 90 two stroke. this plane is disighned for the 160. remember its almost 4 hp. i think the saito 180 is 2.9 hp or less..if anything if you want to overkill it put a moki 2.10 on it.. in all honesty the os 160 is perfect power to weight with this plane... have fun

Thanks for the advice on landing. I was beginning to realize during the second flight that I needed to come in with power to avoid stalling. Much appreciated. Oh, I was able to bend the landing gear back in shape. I love aluminum landing gear, even though it is heavier than the cf stuff.

Actually it should fly quite well with this engine as the plane will weigh nearly a pound less than with the OS 1.60 (33 oz w/muff on the YS vs. 45 oz with the OS--engine (33), BCM Pitts (9), pump (3), and save another 3 oz using a wood prop instead of the HEAVY APC 18x6w, for a difference of 12 oz). I thought about doing this on my plane. Thrust will probably be lower though, but it will fly nicely. This isn't a 3D plane anyhow.

I had a hard time balancing the plane but was able to get the CG in the range by strapping a 2400 mAh 5-cell battery to the aft wing hold down crossbeam.

The YS 1.40 can spin a 17x6 pretty well btw. Of course the problem is the fuel is more expensive (20% - 30% heli fuel) and it can burn a heck of a lot of it, up to 2 oz/min. Also the maintenance is higher than with the OS 1.60.

Sean Y Chen reports 9700 on a APC 18x6w on 30% heli, but that he can also drain an 18 oz tank in 8 minutes at full throttle.

the os 160 with 18/8 prop perfect match bar none.. there is really nothing else to say. you dont need all that fancy stuff on this plane...

This is absolutely true, but if saltywheels already has the YS 1.40 there is no reason to buy the OS (unless he wants to).

Hey there saltywheels go ahead and try the YS-140 Im a YS user the old 120 s will fly up to 20 pds planes and I would imagine the 140 will do as good if not better
so dont under estimate your YS engines some of these guys probably never have used a YS before or even seen one run!!

How did you guys handle the elevator servos? Did you use one reversed servo or a Y harness with a built in servo reverser with an adjustable pot? I'd appreciate comments on this. Thanx........Rich

OK, I'll give the mixing a try. Don't know if my Spectrum D7 will support that though. I suppose that it won't matter which empty channel that I use. I guess all adjustments will be with the master channel.

Thanx.........
