Default ModelTech Giles 202 - a bit touchy

Took the new Giles out for it's first flights today, and boy, what trick! With an Enya 120R up front (12 oz heavier than a Saito 100), I still had to add about 5 oz of lead up front to balance it. It balances at 5" from the LE root, which is in the middle of Modeltechs recommended 4.75 to 5.25" range.

I think it's a little too tail-heavy, still, since it snaps out of tight loops easily. [:'(] Although when I did the CG test (fly level, then roll the wings to 45 degrees), the nose drops off, which tells me it's still a bit nose-heavy.

What might I look at to stop the snaps on inside maneuvers? Elevator throws are about 1" full travel each way, which doesn't seem too much for an "acrobatic" plane to handle.

Mine came out perfectly balanced with a Webra 120. I've tried every thing to stop mine from snapping. No success. The problem is the wing loading is too high and the wing is too thin. BAD DESIGN.

I can't speak specifically to the Model Tech G202 but you must remember that these 202's all have a very powerful elevator. I find it very comfortable to fly my GP G202 with the recommended elevator throw of 5/16" up and 7/16" down. With one inch up and down it must be flown very carefully to avoid unwanted snaps, but after all isn't that what we are after? One inch is approaching the recommended 3D throws (1.25 up and 1.25 down) for the GP G202 and I can't think it would much different for the Model Tech G202. [8D][8D]

Default Thanks, guys

I'll reduce my throws a bit. Thanks for the help, I'll give it a try. I'd thought that the tapered LE was an aid to reduce tip-stalling.

I've been flying mine with a Saito 150 and have it balanced to do GORGEOUS upright AND inverted flat spins. It lands like the larger 30 and 40 percent aircraft at my field in a great 3-point. Not sure where you'd not like it, I love mine
