What about the Seagull Edge 540? After reading the good things about them here on rcuniverse I'm convinced and will be getting one as my next plane.
Great performance at a fantastic price.

Grant

which size 540T are you going for ? 60 or 120?

Are you going to get it in Australia ?

Shouldn't we start comparing prices from our local dealers to see who got a better bargain ?

Oooo... OK.

The reason I crashed my 2 trainers is because of range problems. Arg.

My low wing was crashed while I did some spins. Oops. [:@]

I'll be getting the 60 size. I would like the 120 but the cost of stuff downunder is a bit to high.
My LHS can get me a 60 size edge for about $290 which I thought was very good.

Born to fly, where do they sell that edge?

Oooo... the Modeltech 3D range caught my eye. I'm gonna go buy the Magic. Would buy the Simply Magic, looks better, but I only have this .40 engine which is waaaaaaay under powered.

Your opinions?

csisfun- have you seen the modeltech p-47? if modeltech planes are reasonable where you live they make a decent 60-90 size p 47 that you should look at.

Grant, $290 aus dollars is a very reasonable price to pay for a Edge 540 .60.

Csisfun, I have no experience with Magic. can't advise you. I probably will see u in one of the flying fields.

RC34074, the P47 used to be my target until I was put off by lack of stock, need for a .61 engine minimum, and allegedly difficult to fly. Some people @ my field say its difficult to fly. I doubt so...

Born To Fly! Where do you fly? I do it @ Punggol, Singapore everyweek.

Also, I'd like to know which plane, among Modeltech's range of 3D planes, is the best. Please suggest an engine if you think my old 40 FX wouldn't hover it.

The Simply Magic looks beautiful... mmm!

just browsing through this i noticed that most people are recommending planes that might be too much to handle jumping up from a low wing trainer.
someone mentioned a modeltec magic extra, nice little plane to fly and not that hard, but will perform 3d with high rates.
i have 2 edges.a cm pro 72" with a 150 saito in it.a cheap model, flys great but, setting it up with motor and radio gear made it more expensive.
the other edge is a vmar 56" with a 0s91fs.the 91 with pull vertical at half throttle and it is very responsive.
bit these planes are great to fly but, i would not recommend them unless you have a fair bit of flight time in.

We're sorta spoiled here.
I wouldn't call it spoiled. We just aren't as willing to give all our money to the government in taxes.

[said as tax season is approaching to remind us how over-taxed we are here!]
LOL... with an average of 50% of your total income going to taxes... we aren't willing to give it to the government? We just don'e see it as clearly when it dissapears in the automatic witholding.
Average of 30% in income tax + FICA... then state income tax in most states... then sales taxes, then property taxes, then the hidden taxes in gasoline... and it just keeps going and going.... Taxes are like the Energizer Bunny... they just don't quit.

****

There's problems with making a recommendation on your 4th plane...

You crunched a trainer via pilot error.
We won't all recognize the style of those models you listed. (I've heard of none of them before...)
We've never seen you fly.

Solve any 2... and we can make some good recommendations. (hmm... one can't be eliminated can it? )

I'm going to say that maybe you should get something that looks like the Sig Four-Star 40. Similar characteristics will give similar performance... so look at the Sig Four-Star here: www.sigmfg.com

Check out the span, area and flying weight recommended. look at the basic proportions INCLUDING control surface to fixed surface areas.

If you can find something locally that is similar in design.. stick that .40 on it with a 11X4 prop and you should get some good flying out of it.

Never had I ever crashed my trainers on pilot error.

I'd kill the R115 Reciever. Can't live with single conversions!!!
