Default differences between the Brightstar and the SkyVista? please help!

ive been thinking about getting the hobbico SkyVista, but while trying to find info on it i found the Brightstar too, and it looks different, and has some minorly different dimensions, but i am wondering what the main differences are? and also why is it discontinued at tower hobbies? is it poor quality? does the SkyVista replace the brightstar?
any help on any of this would be much aprreciated.. i am new to R/C planes, and this will be my first plane..

thanks

Default skyvista

I have a Skyvista and think it's a lot of fun. I started with an Avistar though. As far as quality, both of them have seen some rough landings and such but they are still going strong.

Default brightstar 40

I flew a brightstar for a long time and still occasionally fly it as a sunday flyer--I disagree that the hobbico planes are poor quality--i have never had a problem and I think the brightstar is a great 1st low wing plane--still has a flat bottom airfoil too. alot of guys at my field flew mine and said that it was a nice little flyer..I dont think you would be dissapointed with it..aerobatics are mild though.....joe

Default world models arfs!

I do agree that the world model arfs are really good quality--I would recommend them to anyone--I have the little ultimate biplane and a super stunts 40 by world models and am impressed with both of them--great quality and i even used all the hardware that came with the kit.....joe

I disagree with the statement that all hobbico's are bad.. my skyvista has gone through hell and is still goin strong and flying well!!!

I also disagree. My Avistar is very good. It's very good to fly and very 'strong to crash'. I crashed it 3 times and it's flying very well, after fixes.

Default Hobbico Junk?

I also disagree....my BrightStar also flew a LOT and held up very well. Sorry to hear they have discontinued it - for it was an excellent low-winged 'trainer'....

Chris 540
Chris, True06 asked about a Sky Vista, not an Air Vista. All that was said by several people is that they have Hobbico planes and enjoy flying them and they have held up well. There was a thread on here a while back about replies getting personal, that,s not what this forum is for. LIGHTEN UP!

I had a Hobbico Superstar 40 as my first plane and it did a great job of teaching me to fly. It has since went on to another to train with and is still holding up strong. "All hobbicos are junk", I would have to completely disagree with this shallow comment. I have flown a skyvista for a fellow club member to trim it out since it was the planes first flight. It is a good flying plane but a little tame for my tastes. I prefer and recommend the Sig Fourstar 40 or H9 Advance 40 to all that ask for advice on second planes.

Default differences between the Brightstar and the SkyVista? please help!

hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I have been told that the SkyVista would not be a good beginner plane. now i am looking at a standard trainer. At ehobbies i saw the thunder tiger tiger trainer MKII SC arf complete kit with remote and engine for 299. is this a good deal?

thanks

If you do get an extra easy...check the aileron servo mount!!!!! On the one I flew for someone, the servo had just been screwed to the 1/16 sheeting! Can you believe that? Made for an interesting flight when the servo ripped out.

If money is a issue then go check out the Tower Trainer 40 at Tower Hobbies. At 99.00 for the arf his is a great deal on a good flying trainer. Also while you are there take a look a the Hobbico Superstar w/Monokote ARF. If you have not noticed I am recommending Arf's over the RTF's. This is because when you get out of the realm of trainers there are very little planes available in Rtf. So it is best to get a arf and learn how to assemble and setup a plane than just get a ready to fly version. Also, most of the time the Arf's come out lighter too.

On the subject of engines I would skip the bushed .40 engines and go for a good BB .46 like the Thunder Tiger .46 Pro. This is a great little engine for the money an is considered to be the best bang for the buck. The BB engines just run better and have quite a bit more power which is especially important if you fly off a grass field. You can also use this engine in your second plane too.

Also, when looking at radios you might be able to get along with a standard four channel radio for awhile but you will probably need to upgrade to a six channel computer radio later as your skills progress. So why not just start out with the computer radio IMO. Also do not forget to get a good instructor or your fancy new plane will end up a lawn dart.
