Default GP Tiger Moth and Spins.

Has any body tried spins with their GP Tiger Moth arf? Just wondering if it will recover.

Don't flat spin a Tiger Moth. The full scale has problems recovering... so the model may not be able to recover at all.

Not sure about the GP model... but the Tiger Moth model I had (Gee Bee products kit) self-recovered from spins just by letting go of the stick. Had to hold it in the spin to get more than 1/2 rotation. The Tiger Moth profile I downloaded for Microsoft Flight Simulator was the same.

In general... Tiger Moths are a very docile aircraft. thier reputation is... A plane that will show you every mistake you make... but not kill you for it. RAF pilot trainees had very little problem jumping direct from the Tiger Moth to the Spitfire.

It seems that my moth needs more aileron. However it is a very forgiving airplane and will teach you good rudder skills if you pay attention to what its trying to tell you. I just had my doubts about putting this slow moving beast into a spin. Over all its very easy to fly and realy will land at a walk. It also wants to weather vane in a crosswind hence rudder control is a must for landings. I may try some spins this weekend. Thanks.

She'll spin. pull the nose up with hi rate elevator and when she starts to stall, give it left or right rudder. Be careful on the rudder input, I use low rate for spins. On hi rate she'll tuck in and spin real tight. Don't get greedy on altitude, it'll take a turn or a little more to come up. I just let up on the controls. Not bold enough to try a flat spin. Plane's just too nice to chance it.

The tiger in a spin is one of the most beautiful manuevers it can do. It's mesmerizing ! Trust me !

That long tail moment has a lot to do with the weather vaneing on landings.

As stated the tiger will show you your mistakes. It's an easy plane to fly but a tough nut to fly it correctly and make it look good.

On your ailerons, program in some differential, helped mine leaps and bounds. It still sucks for aileron rolls, you have to do more of a barrel roll / loop type roll. With the diff, rudder and full aileron, I can aileron roll mine but it really looks un-natural.

I totally love flying mine on calm evenings, Low 1/2 throttle passes is just right. I'll post a pic tonight if I get the chance.

I totally agree with the 1/2 throttle low pass, heck 1/2 throttle is all I need for take off with a Magnum .91 4 stroke.

I've got an OS 1.20...........he he he he he he he he !. Mine probably weighs more than yours though (11-1/4). The wings mount as 4 seperate pieces, covered with fabric, dual elevator servos, rudder with tiller bar, full closed loop (Pull-pull) elevators and rudder, on board glow, some little scale items. It really is not over powered, it won't go vertical or hover.

Man that looks great. I'm not crazy about the GP trim, and I only hav about 6 flights on mine. The maiden on mine was real harry, more because of my skills than the airplane. I have a post on here about my maiden flight.

My first flight resulted in a dead stick about 20 seconds after takeoff. I had the cowling cut to very scale clearences and the prop hub rubbed it. Prop stopped and you would have thought someone threw out the anchor. It's not a heavy bird by any means but there is a huge amount of drag. Ended up in the rough but no damage. I've must have 100 flights on it by now. I need to redo my pull-pulls (precaution) and tighten a few screws. The plastic landing gear fairings have had it so I need to order some more and install them.

Anyway, have fun with yours, good luck on the spins. Remember get some atlitude and pull out early.

Hello, has anyone read or can perhaps tell me were to find any info on the Great Planes TigerMoth ARF? I'm looking for a relaxing plane to fly slow and low is this what to expect with this plane? and if anyone has any thoughts that mite be of use to me in this regards i would greatly appricate the info. Would the quality be up to what most of the GP ARFS are or is this not a good manufactured kit? any info is well apprecated. Dan

hayman, thats what mine is. the plane is a real joy to fly after it is setup correctly. It is slow and some what sluggish yet it will take off in about 20-30 feet and lands at a walk. It needs lots of rudder control in turns and on landing. Check out this link for my maiden flight and the day after. If you want slow and relaxing this is the plane.
