I believe that when flaps are down the plane will want to climb a bit ... not too much but a bit for planes like the Lancair. Only on 3D planes where the wing chord is wide you have the plane diving as you use flapperones ...

If the plane wants to climb when you add flaps then I can think of two things: either you are lowering the flaps with too much speed or the c/g is not right. When I lower my flaps the plane doesn't even notice it. I usually lower them at midway between half and 1/4 throttle. I have a 91 Surpass on it. As you gain more confidence with the plane you will notice that you don't need flaps to land. Slow flybys are what the flaps are for.......

It has been hard for me to convince the trainees I help, to start slowing down during the downwind leg and let the plane have the proper sink rate using the throttle. When a pilot starts slowing after final turn and often too high, it's too late to bleed off speed. After the pilot moves to the low wing models and keeps the same habits, they wonder why the plane won't slow down.
Using the flaps and if for some reason have to abort landing, you have to be careful of sudden throttle up causing the plane to dive a bit. This can be expensive if you're too low and missed the runway and panic to make another pass.
